Anglish is a constructed language that imagines what English would be like without borrowed words from foreign languages.
So instead of saying "Grammar" a word that has French roots, in Anglish you might say "Speechcraft", or instead of saying "Dictionary", which has Latin roots, in Anglish you would say "Wordbook", which has Germanic roots.
Many think Anglish is how the English language would have turned out if the English had won against the Normans in the 1066 battle of Hastings.
Though the desire to not use French words in English likely dates as far back as 1066, the term "Anglish" was made up by author Paul Jennings in 1966, nine hundred years after the fateful battle.
Take a look at anglish.org to learn more.

Anglish words sound more intuitive because they're made of already existing, familiar words joined together, instead of foreign words that need extra memorisation.

These are interesting things. The good thing about this is that we can still understand the language.

Had no idea about anglish - some of the words are reminiscent of Icelandic. Wordbook for dictionary translated seemlessly over into the Icelandic word for wordbook/dictionary = orðabók

I once saw a video about the old norse way to pronounce ODIN (WODANAZ) and I had the same in my mind about english, without the references they had from Mexico and Canada (French) they would talk more like nordics or germanic people than Latin languages (I am not saying what is better, or correct it is just an observation). ❤

Fact: The Anglish word for "you" is "þou", since that was the original spelling before the typewriter problem.

“Thorn” should really be readded to english, it just makes more sense to have a letter for one of þe most basic sounds

Thus is your voice isn't it ? The rest of the videos have synthetic voice I think. That's a pity as it makes mistakes, especially in emphasis.

I agree, the synthetic voice is not great. KZbin is mainly being used as an archive right now. Feel free to join our Discord if you would like to voice chat.
