How did Snape know Harry was in the forest of Dean? + Did Dumbledore know about the cup in Gringotts?
@TheHumblePotato

1) What if the Death Stick was fashioned from a Whomping Willow? Think about it. The Whomping Willow usually tries to kill anyone who comes near it. And the Deathstick is designed to draw the owner to his death. Probably a reverse engineering on Death's part. 2) What if the Resurrection Stone is a Philosopher's Stone that Death made? A normal Philosopher's extends life beyond death but the Resurrection Stone extends death beyond life. 3) What if Death spoken of in the tale of three brothers was a Dementor? Moreso the original? Death could have fashioned the invisibility cloak from his garment and gave it to the one Brother who asked for it. Also, check out the shape of Azkaban from the top. It's shaped like a triangle. The Deathly Hallow symbol for the Invisibility Cloak. I speculate that the Dementors were created in Death's likeness a long time ago by the original resident. Probably the brother's son who was left to inherit the cloak. This would explain why Azkaban Island wasn't on any map. And if the Son looked at Death as his Father's old friend rather than some evil specter who you shouldn't trust.

@@Daniel1leg 1 question: Hermione had a painting of Phileas Black in her bag. The painting of him could travel between his pictures and it was the picture of Phileas who told Snape were Harry and Hermione where to Snape because he heard Hermione telling Harry at what place they were camping that night. 2 question: I don't think Dumbledore knew where that cup was.

I would guess that it's similar to Sectumsempra, but exclusively slashes/damages internal organs just based on how the 'blocked' version was described as feeling like a dull knife, as well as people who have presumably been killed by it (Lupin) not showing any external damage.

It's hard to say for sure because we know so much less about dark arts spells from the books. It kept Hermione in the hospital wing for days though so it definitely did some damage. I remember before the Order of the Phoenix was released that Rowling had hyped up that a character was going to be killed off in the book. And with the purple curse scene being pretty late in the book it was pretty jarring when you knew a character would die going in, although she had already teased with killing Arthur Weasley earlier in the book.

As an (unpublished) fantasy novelist myself, I "self-spoiled" many parts of the story just by a general knowledge of what an author is likely to do in a given situation. I immediately guessed when Rowling revealed before OOTP (book) was published that there would be "another significant death" that it would be Sirius Black. Rowling's brilliant writing did have me doubting myself occasionally when I read it for the first time, including the scene when Hermione was attacked. Another example of this was finding the identity of "R.A.B" at the end of the sixth book painfully obvious.

The incantation isn't anywhere in either books or movies, but I know why it sort of broke through Harry's Shield Charm. That charm is only meant to repel low-to mid level jinxes and hexes, but it worked for Harry the way it did because Dolohov had to cast the curse nonverbally, which weakened it, and because Harry is an outstandingly powerful and talented duelist. In order to fully stop a high-level Dark curse, you need a much stronger counterspell, preferably one that is specific to that curse. In regards to its effects, it is safe to assume the curse causes some sort of internal damage, which I suspect is a burn rather than a cut.

Dolohov was a skilled Death Eater, as well as had a huge horrible weak side. His skill, was this purple spell. It can cause injuries, if cast verbally that may lead to death. You see, he used it on Hermione, non verbally because Hermione silenced him earlier, and it was so dangerous itself Non verbally, that Hermione was unconscious, and had to have 10 different kind of potions later at hospital wing, Hogwarts. Harry still felt the affects of the spell, despite being such a powerful Shield charm. And that was also casted non verbally, he also tried to use it on Sirius, but he was Body Binded. Him and Sirius was duelling, madly both attempting to kill, and Sirius was just brilliant, shows how skilled and OUTSTANDING he was while duelling. His weakness is being body binded Lmao, he was like Body Binded 3 times, at battle of department of mysteries, by Sirius, by Harry, and was also body binded, at Tottenham Court Road, by Hermione. It is believed to be, this spell killed Lupin 😭, I hate Dolohov as much as Bellatrix Lestrange

Since a curse is a spell designed with harm or dangerous effects in mind, this certainly is a curse but doesn't necessarily mean that the component spells are offensive. That being said, if used in the right manner, nearly all spells can be used to lethal effects.

I personally think that Dolohov created that spell,because if such a powerful spell is not used by any other death Eater that probably means it's from his personal arsenal just like Snape's Sectumsempra. It's after effects were so bad that Hermoine had to take 10 different Potions in a day. I think it does damage something internally and not externally as all of it's victims, including Lupin, were not physically affected.

I wouldn’t think so. It can be reversed with its counter curse despite its effects being so gruesome. The true unforgivables have little to no way of truly countering or reversing them (except in the films where the shield charm easily blocks the killing curse and presumably the other two) and tend to only have malicious or negative intent. Even the likes of Imperio, which does not cause harm to the subject, as it robs the subject of there will and sense. Even if these spells were intended to be used for some kind of good, (controlling an enemy to subdue them without violence, killing an enemy in self defense of the defense of others, or torturing crucial information out of an subject in an effort to help someone in need) it would essentially be the caster performing an unethical or immoral act for the sake of good. The use of the spell is still technically an form of evil, no matter the intent.

It's most likely that the purple flame curse was invented by Snape and copied by fellow deatheater Dollohow (maybe as an exchange for other dark secrets). It would make sense because he invented several spells already in his school days (Levicorpus, Sectum Sempra etc... ). Furthermore as the inventor he probably knew how to undo the effects of the spell. This could have been an antidot in form of a potion as Hermione drank a potion to not get harmed by the purple flames in the first year. Furthermore she might have recognised the feeling of the purple flames as she already experienced it once (without the harm of course) and the "Oh" was the expression of that.

I thought it was the entrail expelling curse. Because it was cited earlier in the same book. Was it told just as a sidenote? I don't know. The effect also points to that, I think.. without the incantation, probably only half the work was done, as was said, there were some internal injuries inflicted. Harry felt a knife slice after his shield charm blunted it. This shows that a good part of the spell was directed ar cutting open the skin. Again supporting it.
@witoldendrju2458

I'm nearly 100 % sure it's simply a spell of blunt trauma, while verbalised probably could break spine/neck of adversary, cast whithout incantation resultet in fractured ribs and internal bleeding. This would also be why even after casting Protego the impact could still be felt. It appears the perfect protection against it would be some kind of cushioning / impact absorbtion spell, maybe something similar to what Dumbledore used to cushion Harry's fall in PoA. The Purple flames in Philosopher's Stone would simply be a wall to stop one from passing through the door - it's like a difference between a standing truck that blocks Your way in a narrow street versus a truck speeding right at You.

I think major part in unforgivable is that it's effect cannot be undone. Avada Kedavra is obvious one, Crucio leaves mental scars and since Imperio makes one do actions without their own will, the effect can hardly be undone, as in undo the actions. (Situational tho) Didn't Snape at least had a healing-spell which he used on Draco after Sectumsempra? So therefor it wouldn't count.

I think this spell is supposed to weaken the opponent - make him completely / partially incapable of fighting without causing him wounds or leading to his death. It is supposed to cause the opponent a pain similar to receiving a fatal wound and, just like the spell that kills, cannot be fully blocked. This means that either the spell will hit with full power and immobilize the opponent, or it will only weaken him (not necessarily physically) if he tries to block the spell. The effect, however, will always occur.

Perhaps Dolohov taught the curse to Snape during the First Wizarding War. Maybe they bonded over their mutual skill in dark magic and shared hobby of inventing spells. If the Dolohov mentioned in "Lord Voldemort's Request" was Antonin and not his father or whatever, he would've already been a seasoned dark wizard by the time Snape joined the Death Eaters. Dolohov could've been a mentor or the leader of their Death Eater cell.

I think he could easily be a contender for the 3rd most powerful Death Eater after Snape and Bellatrix. He's got some pretty impressive feats. Killed Lupin, bested Moody in the Ministry, and it took the champion duelist Flitwick to bring him down in the Battle of Hogwarts. Yes he got defeated in the cafe duel, but his partner Rowle was taken out of the fight almost instantly by an invisibility cloak disguised Harry, leaving Dolohov to face the trio alone. It might be fun to dunk on the trio as 17 yr old dropouts, but we know they can achieve some pretty impressive stuff working together. He still manages to easily take out Ron and is only stunned by Hermione after being distracted by Harry's cloak slipping revealing him.

Movie Hermione was just a mary sue and the screenwriter Steve Kloves was obsessed with Emma Watson. Book Hermione is a more balanced in a way that she has a lot of flaws and faults and isn't good at everything, eg - Flying and Quidditch.

I find the way Hermiones name is pronounced pretty strange as Joan Rowling gave clear instructions on how to pronounce the name correctly in The Goblet of Fire: Her-mee-oh-nee. Why do most people ignore that? And i also do not understand that when books get translated that names are written differently or even translated. Dolohov is written Dolohow in the german books and Rita Skeeter becomes Rita Kimmkorn. So disturbing....

Dolohov was good at dueling big time. He killed Gideon and Fabian Prewett and Lupin. But it took five death eaters to kill Gideon and Fabian Prewett. Then he was taken down by Filius Flitwick. Antonin Dolohov also defeated Mad Eye Moody. But Flitwick was a dueling champion good luck taking him down.

We can’t know for sure, but if I was going to create a spell that would be considered dark magic I make it cause painful cavities and if allowed to go untreated possibly gum damage, of course there would be a counter spell for it, but I can’t really decide if it would be classified as a curse or a hex definitely not a jinx that would be far too weak to classified as a mere jinx, but anyway if he did create the spell who’s to say he wouldn’t have shared it with fellow Death Eaters?

What I hate that stories like Harry Potter get wrong, is that there are almost no evil groups that think they are the evil side. They almost inevitably think they are the good guys, and are willing to do evil things to achieve their goal. Being willing to do bad things in the purpose of "good" is what makes the bad guys the bad guys.

@@thefracturedbutwhole5475 That's my point. In real life, the bad guys don't usually think they are the bad guys. The Nazi's thought they were completely justified in their actions. So did the Maoist communist revolutionaries and so did Pol Pot. In Harry Potter, the bad guys know they are evil, when in real life that is rarely the case.
