A big welcome into my life! I am a Dan a Welsh vlogger from the UK who has Aspergers Syndrome. Aspergers Syndrome or ASD is a form of Autism, often referred to as High Functioning Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder. I video every day of my life and upload videos for you to come along with me.
I also have help videos for helping people get a diagnosis of Autism or Aspergers Syndrome, and also some advise and help for anyone who is friends, partners or loved ones who suffer from Autism or Aspegers Syndrome and just about anyone on the Autism Spectrum.
I am also in a band: www.straightjac...

Short history on me
I was diagnosed with ASD (Asperger’s Syndrome) when I was 26 years old, after experiencing life with Autism that was unknown to me for 26 years.
Now I enjoy all things in life with my dog Randell and my girlfriend Naomi, we try and help and educate anyone and everyone on Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome however and wherever we can.

I was diagnosed with "Autism-like personality" at a young age. I'm a teenager now and just like many other Aspies, I have trouble with communication. Since I'm terrible at socializing, I'm the odd one out in my class. I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one going through this:-) Thank you more making all of these videos! They're helpful to me (and to many other Aspies) and I find it interesting to see how other people live with Asperger syndrome. Keep up the good work!

I've been diagnosed with Aspergers almost a month ago now. My diagnosis changed strangely enough. I was first diagnosed with High functioning autism, but then the specialist saw me again and changed it to Aspergers. I'm fairly new in the aspie community. These videos are helping me come to terms with my diagnosis :)

I have Aspregers, but it's not a bad thing, to be honest I think it's what made me a good person and accomplish so many things. When I was diagnosed at 4, I was far below average in every subject in school. But since 6th grade I've been a 4.0 student, especially in math and science. I am also in Boy Scouts and I am getting Eagle Rank really soon. My obsessions is politics, past and present. You could ask me about any American election and I could give a summary on it, it just fascinates me. My other obsession is animals, especially foxes, so yeah, Aspregers is awesome. I do have social issues and sensory issues- especially with loud noises- but I'm starting to try and overcome these.

Hey man. I appreciate it. What your doing. I'm finally accepting that that and ptsd are what I've been dealing with my we whole life. Intelligence quotient is 137. When I buy a shirt and it fits well and feels good I buy 5. I can feel other people's vibrations and emotions and that's how I learned to express them. Have a routine and always have. Still take things literally but I rewired my brain with psilocybin over 3 years. Just fried y hat thing like a chicken. I can feel people's intentions and lies and truths. Its hard to explain a superpower to people and I have lost a lot of jobs due to misunderstandings or absolute truth that shattered normies feelings when I was just speaking normally. Even made grown men cry with absolute truth which is obviously dangerous. Now that I'm accepting it Its easier to decode my past. Just thanks man. I'm lucky I'm attuned to it and know how to hack and rewire my brain. ( when I first saw fight club I wrote largely on my wall " I found myself and the fight begins" on my wall then rented the movie 3x a week for a year until I got it for Xmas. I still have it but I'm in charge. I am jack

I'm not very good with words and I can't do maths or science and academically I'm not great at much at all, I'm good with practical things but that's all really, I don't speak great, o struggle to find my words sometime, would this seem more as high functioning autism rather than Asperger syndrome? I have my obsessions and routines I love, I'm very chatty and love to do things just awquad and shy sometimes, get super nervous when talking to new people.... not sure which one I would most likely come under...

No. Autism and Aspergers was only distinguished by language/speech development. If there was a delay, then you'd be diagnosed with Autism, if not, then you'd get an Aspergers diagnosis. That's the only difference in the previous diagnostic criteria.

I was diagnosed with aspergers right before the diagnosis changed to ASD. I like identifying as aspie. labels are interesting I think when I was diagnosed they said aspergers and high functioning to 'soften the blow' and I use it that way now when I talk to people in real life. I say aspergers because I don't know how they will react if I say autistic (I.e. You're not like my child or special snowflake etc...) but online where I'm most comfortable talking about my experiences I have more and more just used autistic to describe myself. No function labels (high, low, aspie). I do believe that function label though they seem helpful and harmless at first are really used to devalue autistic people and invalidate their experiences and opinions. So in solidarity and understanding I say autistic though I have a special place in my heart for being aspie.

I'm 45 and recently found out I have Aspergers. I'd gotten counseling for depression in college, but never suspected of being on the spectrum. I've been told throughout the years that I seem to be in my own world. Eye contact used to be a big issue too. I "zone out" a lot. My mind goes somewhere else on a regular basis....Anyway, thanks for this video.

As for the comment read, should have explained there isn't a "difference". Asperger's is a certain type of high function autism, not different from. I am curious to see how they will be re-classifying the different forms of autism in the next DSM or even if they will at all due to the overwhelming number of types of how autism that can form.

I got re-diagnosed last year with Aspergs and it does effect me with speaking and body/social interactions, but what has helped is that I can easily understand emojis better than real life interactions and I also don't get jokes like cause of it caused me and my bestie a fight cause i couldn't pick up the social cues of it being a joke. The first time I was diagnosed was when I was really young and cause of it I actually don't remember until my parents told me when I got re diagnosed and I do have obsessions some being art, reading and watching sailor moon lol. But my speaking is going a bit better from previous speech therapists! :)

This is, perhaps, a really odd question, but I would love to ask you it nonetheless. I have always been very bad at being social. Being uncomfortable with many people around me; Especially if I do not know them, as well as simply being around my own friends for extended time. Besides this, according to some tests I have done, it shows several autistic (in the asperger spectrum) signs, such as me being unable to "normally" show emotions and understanding my own emotions (I have learned to keep eye-contact, wave and flaaaail my arms around during presentations, and so on.), reading other people's emotions by their eyes, and so on. (And many other AQ and EQ tests my psychologist made me do.) But even having all of this "evidence", I still struggle with the thought of me having aspergers... Do I really have it? I can relate to many of the things, and that very fact calms me down. I have always thought of myself as being socially stupid/incapable/useless, but now there actually is a reason... Until I read a few things concerning aspergers that I cannot relate to (or do not know if I can relate to.) Have you also - at some point - been uncertain about your diagnosis when you received it? I fear I may actually not be aspergers; I fear I am "cheating" my family, friends, and myself, but perhaps also because it is not helping me to deal with how I was as a person in the past, and how I saw myself compared to others. (Now I have a reason as to why I was different..) I received my diagnosis a month ago, and I am still struggling to "accept" it... Thank you for this channel! I discovered it today, and I am currently binge watching the uploads!

Getting official diagnosis is how one gets an official status of having aspergers, which may help describe to people and on paperwork that you have apsergers. The word aspergers can help explain things with one word (instead of going on for paragraphs about how you are). Getting a diagnosis doesn't change who you are, but it can help explain things. I have Aspergers, since I was 16 months old, but only diagnosed officially when I was an adult. I feel no shame in the diagnosis, it was a relief when I finally got diagnosed. I had driven myself into depression trying to force myself to do behaviors I just could not get the hang of, no matter how hard I tried (fell into deep depression several times when I didn't meet NT ways). The diagnosis showed me that I was not "wrong", just because I didn't meet social expectations, but that I was actually a different kind of person. I learned that there is an actual physical difference in my brain that had me processing information differently than most people. I find my own ways to handle things, which usually is not the common way to handle things, but the way I handle it, is the way that works for me. I think of the term Asperger as a short word to describe a plethora of personality traits, and I am not ashamed. NT's sometimes have problems with others being "different" than them, and have a hard time accepting that there are people who are not behaving in the ways that they expect from everyone, and NT's mistreat that "difference" as if it were being less... You are not less, you are YOU! I hope you will continue to be best YOU that you can be!
@rasmuspedersen3506
@rasmuspedersen3506 7 жыл бұрын
The fact is that I like receiving the diagnosis. It explains a lot of things, but I fear I may not have it.. (Which is odd, I know.. I really want to know if other people have feared this, too, and if they had to get worked into it.) Two and a half years ago from now (give or take) I began to socialize myself and force myself to become social. I did volunteer work, worked as an instructor at my university, attended parties, and did work at my dorm's party committee. A year ago - according to my psych - I burned out due to the amount of social activities and my university project all at once; Leaving me with severe anxiety and depression. But I am "glad" about my diagnosis. Rather than thinking of myself as socially incapable due to being just a really poor person, I know it is now due to my condition... Kind of like having an excuse (even if it is bad doing it as an excuse.). Now I just have to learn the tools and my limits. But I fear the diagnosis will be "taken away" from me; That I do not have it at all. I know aspies are a lot different from each other, but there are some aspects you all mention, which I simply cannot relate to...
@rasmuspedersen3506
@rasmuspedersen3506 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I will give it a read. You are quite right about it. The fear is there, though, since I can relate myself to many of the tendencies. I have already received the diagnosis from a psychologist, and I have been bounced back and forth from psychiatrist to doctor to another doctor, and then back again before I was assigned the psychologist.. We could not discover the reason to the severe anxiety and depression. Thanks, pal!

Asperger's diagnosis a month ago? You must be in a country that uses the ICD, which technically is more common than the DSM, but the DSM is faster to update. There is an adjustment period, some take longer to accept it than others. Just remember you are you and always have been. The difference now is you have a tool to better help yourself. For me I knew I was different and accepted it a long time ago, so when I was diagnosed (last year) it was more of a relief for me. The experts right now are busy re-classifying the entire autism spectrum. The current DSM shows everything condensed into autism spectrum disorder and the ICD will be doing the same in the 2018 edition. The reason why they are re-classifying is because about 5 years ago they found out the foundation of the entire autism science was wrong. I am writing a book about autism from the autistic point of view and would love your story. You can write whatever you want to include about it. I have doctors waiting to read it and I think they would be very interested in hearing your story too. just submit through this link. goo.gl/forms/ZRwbKx9Cpuo3PC9a2

No, there is so such thing as a cure for something that doesn't exist. The economy doesnt exist, we have houses and jobs, lives and routines that make up an economy, so how does one cure an economy if it isnt 1 single thing? you either change each aspect that makes up the concept, or change the concept itself. Aspergers doesnt exist, its made up of multiple different neural circuits that differ from the general populace, so much so that we call it a thing, when we're just human beings that act in this particular way

Your videos really help me understand myself, thanks dan! I have a question - do you think people with Aspergers are hard to 'read'? As I have been told I don't express my emotions through my body and facial language, making me hard to read.

Hello, from the USA! I have Aspergers Syndrome as well, and I wanted to ask: Do you believe it's possible for Autism (specifically Aspergers) to affect a persons sexual and romantic orientations?
