The first firearm I ever purchased was a used Rossi 971. Got it from a retired Phoenix police officer. He has purchased it new in 87 or 88. He kept it in his safe, and never shot it. It even came with the original 6 lead bullets from the factory in the original box with papers. At the time, it was the closest thing to a S&W I could afford. It is the only firearm I will never part with. I have used it, I put 100 or so rounds through it every year. Thanks for the video.

That’s a great story. The older rossi’s were pretty good- many made on S&W tooling. I have a 6 shot 22lr rossi in a K frame size that’s nice

Very cool , I think the old boxes are great. My model 60 had all its paperwork and cleaning material and a ad for s&w ammo . My pre model 10 just had the box the same with my 30-1 but it had the wax paper. I have my dad's single six convertible and it had the velvet bag for the 22 magnum and all the paperwork. It just adds to the history and story of the guns

Agreed. I love finding all the old literature, tool, etc. in the original boxes. I keep it all with new and used guns I buy. I do the same with my vehicles. That 6906 is a great little pistol. In its day it was the micro compact 9mm of choice for a lot of people. Today it's considered a little chunky for deep conceal but still a great little 9mm. My Mom has one she uses for CC. I've shot it several times and as small as it is, for me it shoots like a full sized gun. I can shoot some tiny groups with it out to 15-20 yards

I'm the same way about the boxes. About half of my vintage Smiths came with the original box. The others now have the correct box. Not original, but "correct". It's sorta fun to get on eBay and search for them, but good Lord! The prices some of these guys want are insane! I love watching your video and seeing yours. Thanks!

Today I bought a 19 year old Ruger New Model Blackhawk in 45 Colt. I don’t know if 19 years old qualifies as vintage. It is in excellent condition and came with the gray plastic case, owners manual, gun lock, and the little manila envelope with the shell casing from the factory test fire. The only thing missing is the white cardboard Ruger box. I’m super happy with the purchase.

I've always kept all of the original packaging when I buy something brand new including firearm-related stuff as well as items from other Hobbies that I know that I someday may sell it. I do it for myself as well, I think it's just cool to keep all of these things for old times sake, but I know if I ever sell these things, the next owner would probably appreciate having all of this original stuff to go with the gun or whatever it is 🙂

I don't intend to sell any of my guns, so I don't worry too much about what they are "worth", but I appreciate buying guns from those who do. I will pay more for a gun in the original box, and if I pay more for a gun because of its box, I'm going to keep the box. I paid money for that box I was pleasantly surprised earlier this year when I bought an old 686 and it came in its original box. The box wasn't mentioned in the listing, and wasn't in any of the photos, so I didn't pay a "with original box" price. As for keeping new gun boxes? I didn't buy the gun for the box. I still have all of the boxes for the handguns that I purchased new, but that's only because they are easily stored and are out of the way. Long gun boxes take up too much space, and find their way to the burn pile. I'm just doing my part to cull the 10/22 box population so that maybe the box you keep from yours is worth something in 20 or 30 years. You're welcome.
