Still say that they need to do a bit of a " Marvel " and interconnect the two IPs just a little bit deeper. Maybe have a age-veryfied GTA mission called " The Bottom of The Hole " where you meet a guy called Hobo Joe a dark conspiracy nut who has gone deep (working off-grid with The Journalist ) who turns out to be James Earl Cash who has been using connections and lethal skills in the underworld to get to Mr. Nasty and kill him , He's only a " Salesman" of The Backers a shadowy cabal of movers and shakers in the Higher Echoclons who also funded Cerebus, their spiritual sucessor Merryweather PMC and of course Securoserv. Let alone they invested in The Experiment in Manhunt 2 You team up with him to storm Mr.Nasty's compound who runnjng a Red Room streaming service for High Rollers . Cash dies in the process of killing Mr.Nasty, strangling him with his own intestines ( Cash's that is ) as you run interference and thin the heard. I'm not sure about Venturas and Carcer on the same map since they'd be kind of far from each other (even though the drive between Vegas and LA in real life even takes freaking forever, I've done that ride before and it's nothing like SA so I couldn't imagine driving from Chicago to Vegas). I always thought of Detroit, New Jersey and Cleveland in Manhunt. Also, a little sidenote about Michael and the distance to Carcer. GTA has very small maps fictional maps so perhaps it fits with the distance of how far Carcer City is. Also, Michael says he robbed a bank on the outskirts. Call it odd, but I believe that banks outside the city are probably smaller and less well guarded so they’re probably easier to rob rather than a bank in the center of NY for example. Maybe that’s why he took that one, it was easier to do and technology was not so advanced back then.

@@cheesus1328Yes, indeed and that’s very realistic. You’d probably want to move out of a place if you’re wanted for murder and robbery I think was also one off the many reasons Michael has such big issues with his family to be having moving all the time. I also like to mention that Michael stole about 10.000 dollars so it was likely again a smaller bank. He also did it in 1988 which was around the time that the factories in the Rustbelt to close, causing crime such as robberies to skyrocket.

I’m fairly certain that Carcer City is based on Cleveland, Ohio. Not only is the river almost a dead giveaway, but Cleveland actually DOES have a subway system (albeit a small on) that is currently in use and they also have an abandoned subway system that was once used by its trolley system. I should also mention that miles traveled stat system in GTA IV isn’t accurate to real life, as Las Venturas (which is Las Vegas) was stated to be closer to Liberty City than Vice City, which is obviously inaccurate to real life, and so Carcer City could be based on a city much further away from New York City in real life, which leaves the possibility for it to be based off of Cleveland, even more fathomable.

Something I hate people saying about Manhunt is that it abandons Stealth halfway through and becomes a gunplay game. Untrue. MOST missions in the back half of the game can be played either Stealth focused, gun focused, or hybrid(hybrid being the easiest and most fun, there are areas packed full of guys that are death traps in a gun fight, but with plenty of shadows you can stealth around). There's only one mission that makes it completely impossible with the game mechanics(View of Innocence, there's only one glass shard in the level, no other execution items, you can pick off one guy in the middle of the level and that's about it) and like two or three others were it's effectively impossible due to enemy placement(Graveyard Shift, Divided They Fall, and Key Personal), but generally you can do both. The war dog, cop, and smiley missions are all great examples. The first cop mission even rewards you for stealth and hiding bodies as the cops only use night-sticks against you until they either see you kill a cop or find a body(until the mid-point of the level after you get the reporter to her apartment, then the SWAT team shows up and alerts everyone regardless)

I love the idea that in the gta universe there is a city that is essentially New York bronx in the the 1970s, just a free for all with basically no cops and gangs run it. It's cool as fuck sounding for a game not for real life. It's so comic booky that it is awesome more games in the gta universe should go for this fictional city shit.

Cleveland does have a small subway, and Cincinnati has a partially built one that was never opened. As far as location based I think you’re right that it was meant to be a generic Midwest/rust belt city and they decided to never touch it again. It would be cool if they did an HD GTA there, although they would likely default it as Chicago aiming for the largest cities in previous games.
@despacheetos110 ай бұрын
I always thought that Carcer was the most similar to Cleveland, rather than Detroit, mostly because: - The presence of the subway system seen in Manhunt (the only cities in the Rust Belt that have significant subway systems are Chicago & Philadelphia, the ones with the smaller systems are Cleveland and Cincinnati). - Mention of the flaming river in GTA San Andreas, a reference to the Cuyahoga river in Cleveland, Ohio. - According to the name of one of the subway stations seen on one of the maps in Manhunt - Rocksnorth Bay - the city is located next to the large body of water, probably a reference to The Great Lakes in North America. - Carcer City Police Department using black and white police cars, even though these are somewhat generic for an US city, out of all the cities mentioned above, are very reminiscent to only those used by the Cleveland Police in 1980s - early 2000s (Manhunt is set in 2003 and its police force use exactly the same car as 4th generation Ford LTD inspired police car from GTA Vice City, reflecting the under-equipment of the Carcer City Police Department, using nearly 20 year old police cars). - State of Michigan banned death penalty entirely in 1963, further disproving the theory of Manhunt taking place in a Detroit inspired city - out of all the states that are associated with Rust Belt the most, State of Ohio still used lethal injections as well as electric chairs in 2003. I know that the law can be altered in this fictional universe, however this fact still should make Carcer appear to have more similarities to Cleveland than to Detroit. - Out of all the cities above, the Cleveland's location suits best the statement of Carcer being located in "the Heartland" (heard in GTA San Andreas), as well as being "nearby" to Liberty City (heard in GTA III). Also from what I read and felt, Cleveland is also one of the most infamous and meme cities due to how much it got affected by the economic decline of the Rust Belt cities - however, not as much as Detroit, which is definitely on top of the list in that regard. Rockstar likes to set their games in cities that are particularly popular in popular culture, so we should choose mostly from the most infamous cities from the Rust Belt. If I got any of the facts or cultural references wrong, feel free to correct me - I have never lived in the United States so I could have made some factual errors.

If Carcer City really is meant to be a combination of a bunch of midwestern cities, it makes the most sense to make it a parody of Chicago since Chicago is practically the capital of the Midwest.

The GTA lore, mythos, and shared universes are probably what initially got me into fan theories in general. Before I ever really got heavy internet usage, all I had to go by was the easter eggs and little dialogue bits overheard from pedestrians and I always remember hearing about Carcer City. It was all the confirmation anyone ever needed that it's in the same game world as GTA. The 3D GTAs were also so aware of their own connectivity. The HD era does this too and even includes RDR references. GTA V and RDR2 kinda took the subtlety away but was there nonetheless. Very cool to see reverence for their creations.

Didn’t realise that the reference to Carcer city on Lips106 had been prior to Manhunt was released (thus similarly to Vice city reference on a billboard). Just shows how Rstar is great at planning ahead. Also, there is another reference to Carcer city is GTA SA - the airport (model that is used in the cut scene) lists arrivals/destinations and CC is one of them.

@zorakihyena73924 жыл бұрын
In my headcanon I picture Carcer City as being geographically Upstate NY but with hints of Philadelphia/Camden and Baltimore (especially with how close buildings/streets are in Manhunt along with Philly and Baltimore irl), whereas the city itself also borrows from Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland. My guess is that it'd be located in Liberty State but further out in an opposite edge from Liberty City, and perhaps stretched out enough to be within somewhat reasonable distance to North Yankton. Perhaps alongside the universe's equivalent of the great lakes.

Hi hi little nerdy correction here, but Cleveland has a fully function subway system; as well as three light rail lines. Camden also has the PATCO Subway running through it from Philly to suburban Lindenwold.

0:35 and that's definitive proof that red Dead Redemption and GTA take place in different universes. Because New York is mentioned numerous times in both red Deads so I find it unlikely there's a liberty and New York City in that universe. Man, if I had the proper know-how and drive to do so, I would honestly love to try and recreate the entire 3d-era GTA world in the game City Skylines. Primarly doing the GTA locations first, then moving to Bullworth due to it already having a map. Before seeing if I can manage to fit both Carcer city and Cottonmouth. I already know somebody managed to recreate GTAV's map in City Skylines already. And given how SA is aproximatly 1/2 or 2/5 the size of it, in addition to mods that gives you even more space to build the city on, I like to think it could work.
@MrSomeguyV2 Жыл бұрын
A lot of people are suggesting that Carcer City is a smaller city, but to me the Subway Map at 5:17 is a huge giveaway. That is a LOT of tunnels, spread across at least 10 different lines! That would make it the second largest subway map in the United States, behind New York City with 36 lines. And that's not just including subways, that's including all light rail, such as ground and elevated trains. In reality, the second largest light rail map in the United States is the Chicago "L" train with just 8 lines, meaning Carcer City's subway is larger than the Chicago "L". With a subway that big, the city must have the density and population to support it.
