Still say that they need to do a bit of a " Marvel " and interconnect the two IPs just a little bit deeper. Maybe have a age-veryfied GTA mission called " The Bottom of The Hole " where you meet a guy called Hobo Joe a dark conspiracy nut who has gone deep (working off-grid with The Journalist ) who turns out to be James Earl Cash who has been using connections and lethal skills in the underworld to get to Mr. Nasty and kill him , He's only a " Salesman" of The Backers a shadowy cabal of movers and shakers in the Higher Echoclons who also funded Cerebus, their spiritual sucessor Merryweather PMC and of course Securoserv. Let alone they invested in The Experiment in Manhunt 2 You team up with him to storm Mr.Nasty's compound who runnjng a Red Room streaming service for High Rollers . Cash dies in the process of killing Mr.Nasty, strangling him with his own intestines ( Cash's that is ) as you run interference and thin the heard. Closing The Manhunt series loop and it's place in the shared universe once and for all.

And in GTA III on the radio they say "In near-by Carcer City", meaning it's near Liberty City. Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland aren't far from New York. And in GTA Universe it would be even closer since it's scaled down.

Originally GTA IV was planned to be set in the whole Liberty State: Liberty City, Alderney City, Carcer City and the whole rural zone of the Liberty State. The map was suposed to be HUGE. So my guess is that Carcer City is bassed off some city near New York. There is hints of this in the BETA files of the game. They just scrap this idea and went for Liberty City and Alderney
@BadgerGoodger
@BadgerGoodger 5 жыл бұрын
I was aware that GTA IV's early concept was set in Liberty State, but was Carcer meant to be a part of it? I haven't heard of that before, but I have heard that the map was originally going to be huge, too. One big area based on the entire state of New York (and then I guess Alderney would have remained as the northern New Jersey equivalent).

Carcer City really should be a GTA location at this point. It's the logical next step for a new location in the series, since it's already been established within the universe. The only question now is what city should it be based on? My pick would be Chicago if they were to completely revamp it and finally settle on a location.
@Streetw1s3r
@Streetw1s3r 5 жыл бұрын
I'd love to see it as a location. Maybe forget San Fierro and Las Venturas and just do Carcer City. What would they do with SF anyway? Not really a city you think of for organized crime. What if they did both Venturas and Carcer on one map?
@BadgerGoodger
@BadgerGoodger 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about Venturas and Carcer on the same map since they'd be kind of far from each other (even though the drive between Vegas and LA in real life even takes freaking forever, I've done that ride before and it's nothing like SA so I couldn't imagine driving from Chicago to Vegas). But I could see two maps in the same game reachable via airports, kind of like this rumor that's been going around that GTA 6 could have Liberty City and Vice City in the same game.
@Streetw1s3r

Oh yeah, Cincinnati does have that unused subway system. It's crazy how those tunnels are just sitting under the city like that. I wonder how much maintaining those costs the city. It reminds me of an unused subway station here that was built but never even finished due to some stupid reason, and now we have an empty subway station where a super-modern one was supposed to go. Thank you for your kinds words, too! They're very much appreciated :)

I always thought of Detroit, New Jersey and Cleveland in Manhunt. Also, a little sidenote about Michael and the distance to Carcer. GTA has very small maps fictional maps so perhaps it fits with the distance of how far Carcer City is. Also, Michael says he robbed a bank on the outskirts. Call it odd, but I believe that banks outside the city are probably smaller and less well guarded so they’re probably easier to rob rather than a bank in the center of NY for example. Maybe that’s why he took that one, it was easier to do and technology was not so advanced back then.

@@cheesus1328Yes, indeed and that’s very realistic. You’d probably want to move out of a place if you’re wanted for murder and robbery I think was also one off the many reasons Michael has such big issues with his family to be having moving all the time. I also like to mention that Michael stole about 10.000 dollars so it was likely again a smaller bank. He also did it in 1988 which was around the time that the factories in the Rustbelt to close, causing crime such as robberies to skyrocket.

I’m fairly certain that Carcer City is based on Cleveland, Ohio. Not only is the river almost a dead giveaway, but Cleveland actually DOES have a subway system (albeit a small on) that is currently in use and they also have an abandoned subway system that was once used by its trolley system. I should also mention that miles traveled stat system in GTA IV isn’t accurate to real life, as Las Venturas (which is Las Vegas) was stated to be closer to Liberty City than Vice City, which is obviously inaccurate to real life, and so Carcer City could be based on a city much further away from New York City in real life, which leaves the possibility for it to be based off of Cleveland, even more fathomable.

Philadelphia sounds like the good answer. Close enough to match GTA IV miles counter, close enough to where Michael could have been when he was young, and had a subway system. Probably a mashup with Chicago, Detroit, and Philadelphia, and based on the IRL location of Philadelphia.

I always felt that Carcer City is much smaller than Detroit/Chicago/Philly, and possibly even half-abandoned, at least for the areas where you play in. Also some of the gangs have that hillbilly cadence to their speech which also suggests something else than a northern metropolis

The Skinz and Wardogz do have that drawl. We call it a southern accent but really you can find it in any backwater town in America, I've heard people from states like Vermont and Oregon with those type of accents. Besides, the Hoodz have a New York style to their speech, so I'm thinking Rockstar just blended various accents to help anonymize Carcer City.

Idk Carcer City seems pretty big to me because of the variety of settings we see in each mission. We go from bad looking neighborhoods to abandoned public locations then we're in good looking environments like that downtown area from Press Coverage. I'd say Carcer City is slightly bigger than Liberty City and Vice City but half smaller than San Andreas.

Hey badger , big fan. I actually had Written a decent chunk about cottonmouth on the manhunt wiki. One interesting thing to note about cottonmouth is that while it is not directly referenced in the game, there are a couple textures in the files that directly reference the name of the city, including an unused cottonmouth police seal that was meant for the Maverick, as well as a manhole cover that reads “cottonmouth sewers” that you can actually see in the chapter “most wanted”. I really hope that one day we can explore the cities in the grand theft auto universe. I feel that there will be a lot of potential for a New Orleans style city for grand theft auto six.

Even though this is about 2 years late just wanted to address some errors on your research or info: As a native to Camden,NJ; Camden does have a small subway system really only for its downtown area but it’s been there for years maybe even before I was born not sure where you got your info on Camden from but it’s definitely located on a RIVER body of water directly across from Philadelphia’s Junkyards & Recycling Refinery Plants (Where you see flames burn). Camden also has an infamous Incinerator Plant located along the Delaware River.

I always thought Gary and Camden (which does have a couple PATCO subway stops in its downtown), but it's referenced engouh that Carcer City should be big enough for people across the country to be familiar with (and to have professional sports teams), which Camden and Gary really aren't. So, Buffalo, New York, might be the likeliest candidate for Carcer City. It's on a large lake, its light rail system runs in a subway for most of its length, its population has been in free-fall for 60 years and huge parts of the city are abandoned, and it even has a small river that used to catch on fire!

Something I hate people saying about Manhunt is that it abandons Stealth halfway through and becomes a gunplay game. Untrue. MOST missions in the back half of the game can be played either Stealth focused, gun focused, or hybrid(hybrid being the easiest and most fun, there are areas packed full of guys that are death traps in a gun fight, but with plenty of shadows you can stealth around). There's only one mission that makes it completely impossible with the game mechanics(View of Innocence, there's only one glass shard in the level, no other execution items, you can pick off one guy in the middle of the level and that's about it) and like two or three others were it's effectively impossible due to enemy placement(Graveyard Shift, Divided They Fall, and Key Personal), but generally you can do both. The war dog, cop, and smiley missions are all great examples. The first cop mission even rewards you for stealth and hiding bodies as the cops only use night-sticks against you until they either see you kill a cop or find a body(until the mid-point of the level after you get the reporter to her apartment, then the SWAT team shows up and alerts everyone regardless)

Cleveland does have a small subway, and Cincinnati has a partially built one that was never opened. As far as location based I think you’re right that it was meant to be a generic Midwest/rust belt city and they decided to never touch it again. It would be cool if they did an HD GTA there, although they would likely default it as Chicago aiming for the largest cities in previous games.
@despacheetos1

I always thought that Carcer was the most similar to Cleveland, rather than Detroit, mostly because: - The presence of the subway system seen in Manhunt (the only cities in the Rust Belt that have significant subway systems are Chicago & Philadelphia, the ones with the smaller systems are Cleveland and Cincinnati). - Mention of the flaming river in GTA San Andreas, a reference to the Cuyahoga river in Cleveland, Ohio. - According to the name of one of the subway stations seen on one of the maps in Manhunt - Rocksnorth Bay - the city is located next to the large body of water, probably a reference to The Great Lakes in North America. - Carcer City Police Department using black and white police cars, even though these are somewhat generic for an US city, out of all the cities mentioned above, are very reminiscent to only those used by the Cleveland Police in 1980s - early 2000s (Manhunt is set in 2003 and its police force use exactly the same car as 4th generation Ford LTD inspired police car from GTA Vice City, reflecting the under-equipment of the Carcer City Police Department, using nearly 20 year old police cars). - State of Michigan banned death penalty entirely in 1963, further disproving the theory of Manhunt taking place in a Detroit inspired city - out of all the states that are associated with Rust Belt the most, State of Ohio still used lethal injections as well as electric chairs in 2003. I know that the law can be altered in this fictional universe, however this fact still should make Carcer appear to have more similarities to Cleveland than to Detroit. - Out of all the cities above, the Cleveland's location suits best the statement of Carcer being located in "the Heartland" (heard in GTA San Andreas), as well as being "nearby" to Liberty City (heard in GTA III). Also from what I read and felt, Cleveland is also one of the most infamous and meme cities due to how much it got affected by the economic decline of the Rust Belt cities - however, not as much as Detroit, which is definitely on top of the list in that regard. Rockstar likes to set their games in cities that are particularly popular in popular culture, so we should choose mostly from the most infamous cities from the Rust Belt. If I got any of the facts or cultural references wrong, feel free to correct me - I have never lived in the United States so I could have made some factual errors.

The GTA lore, mythos, and shared universes are probably what initially got me into fan theories in general. Before I ever really got heavy internet usage, all I had to go by was the easter eggs and little dialogue bits overheard from pedestrians and I always remember hearing about Carcer City. It was all the confirmation anyone ever needed that it's in the same game world as GTA. The 3D GTAs were also so aware of their own connectivity. The HD era does this too and even includes RDR references. GTA V and RDR2 kinda took the subtlety away but was there nonetheless. Very cool to see reverence for their creations.

In my headcanon I picture Carcer City as being geographically Upstate NY but with hints of Philadelphia/Camden and Baltimore (especially with how close buildings/streets are in Manhunt along with Philly and Baltimore irl), whereas the city itself also borrows from Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland. My guess is that it'd be located in Liberty State but further out in an opposite edge from Liberty City, and perhaps stretched out enough to be within somewhat reasonable distance to North Yankton. Perhaps alongside the universe's equivalent of the great lakes.

Primarly doing the GTA locations first, then moving to Bullworth due to it already having a map. Before seeing if I can manage to fit both Carcer city and Cottonmouth. I already know somebody managed to recreate GTAV's map in City Skylines already. And given how SA is aproximatly 1/2 or 2/5 the size of it, in addition to mods that gives you even more space to build the city on, I like to think it could work.

A lot of people are suggesting that Carcer City is a smaller city, but to me the Subway Map at 5:17 is a huge giveaway. That is a LOT of tunnels, spread across at least 10 different lines! That would make it the second largest subway map in the United States, behind New York City with 36 lines. And that's not just including subways, that's including all light rail, such as ground and elevated trains. In reality, the second largest light rail map in the United States is the Chicago "L" train with just 8 lines, meaning Carcer City's subway is larger than the Chicago "L". With a subway that big, the city must have the density and population to support it.
