Take portfolio... click on the stock. A popup menu will appear.. click on pledge. Type no.of shares you want to pledge. Submit it. You should do it before 2 pm. Otherwise sometimes you will not get margin on next day. If you do after 2 pm sometime u will get margin day after tomorrow. So before 2pm is safe. The main thing u should concern is that u should authorize it before 7pm. ( means after pledging you will get a message and mail frm cdsl. You should authorize it before 7pm by giving your pan card number and otp?

Usually brokers won't charge any interest on the collateral. But they may ask you to pay 50% in cash and you can keep 50% as pledged equity holdings for option writing. In addition to that, equities will have some hair cut depending on their volatility. For eg, if your stock's value is Rs.100, they will consider it as Rs.80.
