Since 2015, major carriers have switched most of their shipping to dimensional weight. It’s a big change that could really impact your shipping costs, so it’s important to plan your packaging, carrier, and shipping speed ahead of time.
So what is dimensional weight? Dimensional weight isn’t how much your package actually weighs - instead it’s how much space your package actually takes up. Dimensional weight is also measured in pounds. Good Video however I have serious issue with carrier's charges. Their dimensional cost for a 4 lb box is 17.25 and the majority of my customers won't pay that, not even for an item valued at $100.00! I never knew what a a dim Divisor was or how it was used. Boy! you are correct in a half inch will make in costs!

Hey great video, but what if we ship products in poly bags but not in any box then how shipping is done by volumetric weight or dead weight??

How do I accurately calculate shipping cost on selling apps if I do not know where the potential buyers live? All the shipping calculators from the major shipping companies require a destination address to calculate shipping cost.

The dim divider is determined by the carrier itself. This is established if you have a contract with UPS or FedEx and that number is based on your overall outbound volume of packages. If you don't have a contract then you are going to pay the customer base dim divider number that you would get at UPS store or a Kinko's which are usually FedEx pick up points. Make sense?
