What is Dowry System? History of Indian Dowry System | Explained in Malayalam | alexplain
Dowry is an inevitable part of Indian weddings which is being criticized everywhere. The recent dowry death of a young woman (Vismaya) in the Kollam district of Kerala has once again surfaced the discussions on dowry, dowry death and domestic violence. This video explains the origin of dowry, the history of the dowry system and the development of modern dowry practices along with the dowry prohibition act 1964 and IPC section 304 B and section 498 A. The dowry-related practices followed in ancient Babylonian civilization, Greek civilization, Indian civilization etc are discussed. The practices associated with Indian tribes are also discussed. The evolution of the new dowry system in India from Vedic religious times and during British rule is also discussed in the video. This video does not talk about the dowry death Kerala or Vismaya death. This video will give you a perspective of the dowry system, and an insight to the history of dowry system.

Yes mam great decision,also mam must understand certain points also ,,since Kerala is a small state and each community members marry from same community, because of that consangnus marriages are taking place ,even though they don't know this fact , because of this type of marriage,many diseases and mental and psychiatric issues are carrying forward in huge numbers,,so that many are suffering from bipolar, depression and many more issues ,in this instance before marriage boys and girls must go for psychological and psychiatric analysis by going through a batteries of test,,if only they get a fit certificate then only ,they must go forward,,this test be made mandatory even for government appointments ,so that only mentaly , physicaly, psychological and psychiatric fit people must be in position,power ,in service and other sectors,,even addictions are due to psychiatric issues ,also people with these problems ,even if get married,they must not have children, because they will be giving birth to severe problematic children,,which will become headache and destructive to family , society,state and country,,think about these things ,and share with your family friends community and close associate,,give awareness to all ,god bless, be blessed,Mr Alex also must go through this comment,and think about these aspects

എന്നെ ഒരിക്കൽ എന്റെ ഒരു friend propose ചെയ്തു.. അതിനു മറുപടി ആയി ഞാൻ ഒന്നും പറഞ്ഞില്ല.. അയാൾ എന്താണെന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞതിനു ശേഷം മറുപടി പറയാമെന്നു കരുതി.എന്നാൽ അയാൾ സംസാരിച്ചു 2 ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ വീട്ടിൽ സാമ്പത്തികസ്ഥിതി ഇല്ലേ എന്നും സ്ത്രീധനം എത്ര തരും എന്നൊക്കെ.. ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു എന്റെ നാട്ടിൽ (കണ്ണൂർ )സ്ത്രീധനം ചോദിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് അടിയാണ് മറുപടി എന്നും അവരെ ഒന്നിനും കൊള്ളാത്തവരായി ആണ് ഞങ്ങൾ കാണുന്നതെന്നും പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനൊരു സമ്പ്രദായം എന്റെ നാട്ടിൽ ഇല്ല എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ അയ്യേ അത്ര വൃത്തികെട്ട നാടാണോ എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചു ഇൻസൾട്ട് ചെയ്തു.. ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു :തന്നെ പോലെ ഉള്ളവർക്ക് ഒരു സ്ത്രീയിനെ പോലും കിട്ടില്ല പിന്നെയാ സ്ത്രീധനം.. Biologically താൻ ഒരു പുരുഷൻ ആയിരിക്കാം പക്ഷെ intelectually തന്നെ രണ്ടും കെട്ട ഒന്നായെ കാണാൻ എനിക്ക് പറ്റുന്നുള്ളു.. Good bye" എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് block cheythu. സാക്ഷര കേരളത്തിലെ educated ആയ ഒരു engineer ന്റെ അടുക്കലിൽ നിന്ന് എനിക്ക് കിട്ടിയ അനുഭവം ആണിത് 😏

Megasthenes ,Arrian,എന്നിവർ 3rd Century B.Cൽ അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടത് അനുസരിച്ച് ഇൻറ്യക്കാർ വിവാഹത്തിന് സ്ത്രീയുടെ ഉള്ളഴകും, ബാഹ്യരൂപമും മാത്രമായിരുന്നു മാനദണ്ഡമായി കണക്കാക്കിയിരുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ പിൽക്കാലത്ത് പലയിടത്തും ക്രമേണ, സ്ത്രീധനവും, പുരുഷൻ സ്ത്രീക്ക് പണം കൈമാറുന്ന Bride’s wealth സമ്പ്രദായവും നിലനിന്നുപോന്നതായി കാണാം. ഇ രണ്ട് സമ്പ്രദായങ്ങളുടയും സാമൂഹീക നിലകൾ തമ്മിലുള്ള വ്യത്യാസം ഇൻറ്യയിലെ ആദ്യ കോഡിഫൈഡ് നിയമഗ്രന്ഥം എന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്ന കോഡ് ഓഫ് മനു അഥവാ മനുസ്മൃതിയിൽ പരാമർശിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. സ്ത്രീധനം Prestigeious ആയിട്ടുള്ളതായും അത് മേൽ ജാതിക്കാർക്ക് മാത്രമുള്ളതായും, എന്നാൽ Brides wealth കീഴ്ജാതിക്കാർക്കുള്ളതായും അക്കാലത്ത് പരിമിതപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നതായി മനുവിൽ കാണാം. ഇത് കൂടാതെ അതി പ്രാചിന കാലത്ത് രചിക്കപ്പെട്ട ഇൻറ്യിലെ ചില പുസ്തകങ്ങളിലും സ്ത്രീധനത്തെ പറ്റിയുള്ള പരാമർശം കാണാനാവും. കൌടില്യൻറെ അർദ്ധശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ സ്ത്രീധനത്തെ പറ്റി വ്യക്തമായ പരാമർശമുള്ളതായി കാണാം. സ്ത്രീധനം എന്നാൽ സ്ത്രീയുടെ ധനം (property of Woman) എന്നാണ് ഇതിൽ പറയുന്നത്. കൌടില്യൻ നിഷ്കർഷി്കുന്നതു പ്രകാരം സ്ത്രീധനത്തിൻറെ ആത്യന്തിക അവകാശി, സ്ത്രീ തന്നെയാണെന്നും ഒരു സ്ത്രീക്ക് തൻറെ സ്വതന്ത്ര ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കോ അതോ പുത്രൻറെയോ, മകളുടെയോ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കോ സ്ത്രീധനം ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിന് യാതൊരു വിലക്കുമില്ലെന്നും അർത്ഥശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ പരാമർശിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ പിൽക്കാലത്ത് ഇൻറ്യിലെത്തിയ ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർ ഇൻറ്യിൽ അക്കാലത്ത് അപരിചിതമായിരുന്ന ഭൂമിയുടെ സ്വകാര്യ സ്വത്തവകാശ ആശയം നടപ്പിൽ വരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഇ കാലത്താണ് ജമേദാർ (Zamindar) വ്യവസ്ഥ ഇൻറ്യയിൽ ശക്തിപ്പെടുന്നത്. അതു വരെ നികുതി പിരിവുകാർ മാത്രമായിരുന്ന ജമേദാറുകൾ (Zamindar) അതോടെ ഭൂപ്രഭുക്കളായി മാറി. ഇതോടെ ഒരു തരത്തിലുള്ള വസ്തുവകകളും കൈവശം വയ്ക്കുന്നതിൽ നിന്ന് ബ്രീ്ട്ടിഷുകാർ സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് വിലക്കേർപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. എന്നാൽ ഇ സമയത്തും വധുവിൻറെ വീട്ടുകാർ കല്യാണ സമയം സ്ത്രീധനമ നൽകുന്ന പതിവ് തുടർന്നിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് ഇത് കൈവശം വയ്ക്കാനുള്ള അവകാശം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടതോടെ ലഭിക്കുന്ന സ്ത്രീധനത്തിൻറെ ആത്യന്തിക ഉടമസ്ഥയരായി ഭർത്താക്കൻമാർ മാറി ഇത് ഇന്നു നമ്മൾ കാണുന്ന സ്ത്രീധനവ്യവസ്ഥയുടെ ആദ്യ പടിയായി കണക്കാക്കാം. പിന്നീട് ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർ ഹിന്ദു വിവാഹത്തിൻറെ സുപ്രധാന മാനദണ്ഡമായി സ്ത്രീധനം നിഷ്കർഷിക്കുകയുംചെയ്തു. ഇന്നും തുടർന്നു വരുന്ന ഇ സംപ്രദായം ആരംഭിച്ച രീതീയിലായിരുന്നില്ല പിൽക്കാലത്ത് സമൂഹം ആചരിച്ചു പോന്നത്. ഇത് സ്ത്രീകളുടെ സ്വതന്ത്യവും, വ്യക്തിത്വവും അസ്ഥിത്വവും ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്ന ദുരാചാരമായി പിന്നീട് മാറിക്കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

I liked your video. However, According to (NCRB) 2015, close to 60,000 married men committed suicide in 2014 as compared to 27,000 married women. However, 1,400 widowers ended their lives compared to 1,300 widows. Similarly, around 550 divorced men committed suicide as compared to 410 divorced women as mentioned in article of “Times of India”. Why this issue never discussed in any platforms ?
