Ego is useful - a tool to be used to contribute and do good. The wise person strives to lose their ego. The enlightened person learns to master it. Bear in mind that when we try to kill our ego, we empower it. It gains control by motivating us to minimize it. When we are in control of it, we use it like a tool in our toolbox as we please. We are the builder, the ego is the tool. Some things live off of the energy that we give them - the ego is one of those things. I would have like to see this vid demonize ego less and teach how to master it more.
@HugoPortoFerraro6 жыл бұрын
Well, I´d suggest you to be really careful right there. If you allow your confidence/faith to be put in my comment, try your best to visualize it: During the moment you were watching the video, while Leo´s words were being manifested in your "sounding" awareness, something "inside" the Mind intelligible understood the content of what was being said as related to the idea of Ego and, after that, there were a manifestation of a conceptual narrative, followed by an ideological position of the I. A perspective of what is being understood, constructed by some limited quantity of memories and it´s products: beliefs. Well... that´s the Ego. Your true nature is unfortanately trapped in it for now. Like when you dream about being someone else, but you only discovers it was only a dream at the moment you "Awake" up in bed. Enlightenment and Awakening it´s almost identical with the dreaming situation. Except the fact you don´t wake up in someone else´s bed. Trust me, I´m not trying to judge you in anyway. I´m just giving you hints and tips, don´t demonize my comment. Also, you´re misunderstanding ego death, don´t delude yourself, you won´t master like a tool, if you think you are it.

80% of what you just said are things i discovered on shrooms and LSD.. what I find fascinating.... are thoughts that I begin to have and retain when I go on meditative trips are the same thoughts other people are having..... such a beautiful mystery.. .I remember one of my last lsd trips, very audibly this..... "other me" (people that trip would understand) literally within my mind began to...... coach me.... and that word "tool" was used. the ego is alike.... an OS for a MAC or PC.... its a tool used to navigate, discern, analyze, etc Killing the ego is impossible as thats like killing the operating system... we can only become aware of such a thing.. that the REAL us... is.... each other.... and the personality we use to navigate is just the ego... but people.... sometimes cannot separate the tool from "I".. from "self".. we all at some point experience this.. its a trickery of the mind... a sense of duality to know what you are, but understand you arent what you are..... what a beautiful existence this is... how unfathomable such an experience can even be....

My ego limited my ability to live in the moment and encouraged me to live in my mind. It made me judge myself and focus on my failures. It made me critical of others, narrow-minded, afraid of what others thought and constantly anxious. My ego pointed the finger at all the problems out there, in an attempt to divert attention away from the problems within myself. This destructive thinking manifested physically as pain, tension, illness and disease in my body. Pealing away just a few layers of the ego has improved my quality of life. I'm more compassionate and understanding of others. I'm more open-minded to new ideas. I'm breaking out of set routines and bad habits. I'm more comfortable with who i am and am slowly starting to love and accept myself for the first time in my life. My mind and body is healing and becoming stronger ever day. I'm more capable and creative. I can be present and enjoy the moment. I see much more beauty and wonder in the world, instead of only pain and suffering. And i sense this is just the tip of the iceberg!

I was bullied by my older sister when I was a child and I developed ADHD,imposter syndrome and maladaptive daydreaming that haunted me all my life. In my 32nd year I realized it was the ego all the way. My ego was shattered and hurt it used daydreaming as a coping mechanism to compensate the appreciation I didn't get. It used anxiety, shame and embarrassment to keep me under its control. It became perverted dark and evil and I succumbed to multiple addictions through out my life.but now I realize that I was very blessed to have my ego broken from an early age as a start to break free from its control. Now I'm very happy, compassionate and content. I literally feel it sometimes coiling disappointed in the back of my mind while the light of god shines through the space. Thank God for everything.

Very recently, some happening has caused me to be very depressed, and then all of a sudden, i felt my ego fade away with my tears. Everything you have spoke of has been 100% the case ever since, and i finally understand what it feels like to have your ego slowly go away and discover the true self. i have calmed my stormy waters, and life feels so fluent. i felt love for myself and others i have not felt before. just had to share. you are a very good spiritual teacher

Your tone in your comment sounds cynical to my post. Well, I'm pleased to tell you that that moment was written down in my diary as detailed as possible so that I can still remember very clearly how it felt to feel something shift inside of me. That moment has changed my life around, a sort of 'spiritual awakening' for me. I did not want to lose that feeling, but it's inevitable that life will bring its ups and downs. If you are interested, I can go into a little bit more detail about how I was before this pivotal moment, but for now I will just tell you that this fading of ego allowed me to reach personal peace, mental tranquility, adopt a calmer and secure self-image, and happiness from within me, rather than leeching off other people. It has in a strange way made me realize that I am an abundance of love and that I am able to make others feel happy and loved in a society of hate. Recently, I've been at odds with life, but thank you for bringing me back to this post. It's made me feel better reading my own post. :) peace

This topic didn't even exist fro me until two years ago when something very extraordinary happened to me and changed the way I look on life. It's not some spiritual story in which after years of meditation on some mountain peak in one starry night the secrets of the universe unveiled before me. Hell no. I was 18 years old and it was my high school graduation. It was the first time I drank more than a sip of whiskey and the first time I went to a night club. I used to be a shy kid and I had one or two people who talked with but lets leave the cheesy stuff behind, there are millions of kids like this and you know the basic profile of an outsider. So during that night I danced and drank booze all night. I got home at 7 in the morning. Needless to say I felt like a walking corpse the next day. I managed to gather energy to get out of the house after the sunset. I decided to go to the shop and get something sweet to feed my fat ass and get some fresh air. The moment I stepped out of the front door I felt veeery strange but it was a good strange. I felt light. I headed to the shop and it felt like I was levitating. And I didn't even think about where I was going it was like someone knew where I had to go and was pulling me by my forehead in the right direction. I knew I was going to the shop yet I didn't think about it once during the whole trip. I know it's hard to comprehend. On the way there I met a few strangers. And I stared deeply in their eyes until they looked away. And I felt "hey, I am the one who has to be ashamed of eye contact. I am the loser. Why do I feel confident when I know I am unworthy and a piece of shit" But in fact I wasn't even remotely uncomfortable. I went to the shop and stood in front of the cashier who was a very cute girl and looked her in the eye. Just like that. My mind was empty - I didn't think about anything. I was just looking at her. She smiled and I smiled.' It was like we were talking through our eyes. She asked me what I wanted and I jerked it out before I could even think about what I wanted to buy. Unlike all the other times I couldn't decide what I want to get even though that was the only thing I was thinking about during the whole trip to the shop. And what I said was exactly what I wanted to get. Like someone was speaking instead of me and he knew me better than I knew myself. We looked each other in the eye a few more times and always she turned away first. I just didn't care. In fact I then realized I had stopped caring about anyone or anything. It was pure not-caring, not like the usual (telling yourself you don't care about someone but in fact you care). The moment I stepped out I had forgotten her. If it was the previous day and I had such experience with that girl I wouldn't have been able to sleep thinking about her. The world was mine. I could control everything and everyone. I liked everything and everyone and everyone liked me. I got home. I played some music in the living room as I usually do. My parents were also there again as usual. I sat on the sofa. And while the music was playing I suddenly realized I was humming and dancing to the beat. First time in my life. I never ever danced before that night in the club (if you can call throwing your hands around and shaking your body a dance). My parents were confused and looked at me laughing. I laughed too. I didn't feel one bit ashamed. I started chatting with them. And we talked like we were friends. There weren't any walls standing between us. That evening was the first time in my life that I felt alive. In fact, later while looking back I realisd it was the first time I ever felt anything. Before that I was just mimicking feelings but didn't actually feel anything. I went to bed and felt asleep on the spot. Just like that. I didn't stare in the ceiling for 3 hours thinking about the past and the future as I did before. On the next morning I woke up and went out with enthusiasm. But I had lost it. Went to the shop avoiding other people's glances. Stuttered when I bought the candy and everything went back to usual. The girl was very excited when I walked in and that's how I knew everything was real and not a dream. But after a minute she lost all interest because I was the same loser that I was before. I had the same experience but not that intense and clear a few more times after that. Only one time it didn't come after me drinking alcohol and it was the most real of them all. I realize that this is a very good foundation of becoming an alcoholic so I drink as rare as possible. Maybe once or twice a month. Not that you care about my personal boundaries or anything but to warn people that even though alcohol might make you feel uplifted it's temporary and in the long term will make you even more miserable. P.S. If you don't love yourself no one else will. And I know this not because I read it on some blog but because I have felt it. All the truth in the world lies in you and you just have to look inside yourself and you will see the universe. TL;DR Everyone has a great person in himself who he suppresses. Even the loneliest and the ugliest kid has a leader and a lover hidden deep inside it. It's up to you to bring this person out. Everything you need lies in you and not outside of you.

+Georgi Georgiev Oh I was so excited writing this I forgot to connect it to the topic of the video :D. I believe that what happened there with me was just my ego completely disappearing. I didn't think of what others think of me. I didn't expect anything from anyone. I felt like I don't owe anything to anyone nomore. I just stopped hanging out with some people I knew for years just like that and it felt right. But all of this is valid for the period I feel the strange feeling. After I lose it I go back to these people and I agains tart to feel like I owe somebody and somebody owes me. Thinking about this I feel like God is just giving me a free trail of the life I can have if I start working on myself. Because when you get something without any work it is taken away from you just as effortlessly. And when you think that life is unfair to you think it the other way around. Are you being fair with life. With you being your ego and life being your soul.
@REMEMBERFINCH8 жыл бұрын
+Georgi Georgiev when you say you lost it, what in fact happened was you covered it. You covered it by asking a question or grasping at a reference point in an attempt to find a way to hold on to it. The thing that asks what now or how to I own this or how can I remember this so that I can be here whenever I choose is the thing that's in the way if being it. It's called the mind made self and it's everything you said it was, insecure, full of doubt, afraid and that's because it's an illusion and no illusion can ever know something real.

Ego should not be confused with your self worth nor anything but what ego truly is which is merely the false concept of whom you are. When one becomes ego-less one see's the oneness of everything. In the non ego state one manifests love instead of fear, so the ego's protection from the very fears the ego manifested is no longer necessary. Ego death/ego transcendence is necessary, and a must to truly evolve. Why master a illusion ? An illusion that doesn't exist and isn't even truly you ? Ego also separates one from their truest self, and each other as well as Source/God, which is also you. All that truly exists is Consciousness/Source or whatever label one chooses to utilize. God is truly all that exist's whether one is atheist or not, all false perceptions and old paradigms are fading, as the age for knowing is the now.

Now that I'm preparing for my exams, it's not even about achieving anything, it's about practicing humbling myself. Sitting with the empty heart that comes with a shattered ego of not knowing something (yet). I realize this is something I might benefit from doing with my dysfunctional relationships too, using them for practice. I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet though. Maybe I will just practice not reacting first. Ego isn't inherently bad, but being mindful and noticing when it's holding you back in the here and know is worth doing. It gets better. It gets less painful. I hope one day I will be strong enough to do this with people too.

this is the best way ive heard anyone describe ego. usually im stuck between "how do i kill my ego" and "self love" its very paradoxical considering ego is self. powerful stuff man im activly keeping a journal and recording my emotions and responses to them every three hours from waking up til i go to sleep and its given me alot of insight. keep it up man i dont view you as a guru but as someone sharing openly their journey and i think its very powerful to differentiate between these things because i personally have always had an issue with people who claim they possess the truth and infinite wisdom. yes this is a judgment, and yes its possible that they do possess it, whatever it is... but you share differently and definable keep up what your doing

Ego death is not something to aim for in this modern world, its a massive misconception everyone has that its a positive thing. The mere awareness of how your ego develops is enough to be more aware in throughout its development. Over the years you realise how certain events affect how you relate to life, knowinthis, and stepping outside this peocess to be aware of what is happeningis the real aim. Develop strong positive morals your ego identifies with and you will do far more good in this world than someone who aims for death or diminishment of the ego.

+Rob well said Rob the end of the ego is irrational and is a philosophy that the east has always tied themselves with but have never achieved. Not being needy, greedy, selfish and afraid is what I believe the end of modern ego. but you cant end the ego because it is what we came for to live in this experience.

+Joshua Vallejos . the truth is that ego death is as real as the illusion that dies when it's seen thorough. if you were to try to kill ego it would only be ego trying to end itself while under the impression that it's not the ego. the secret it to drop all attachment to thought and ego Will no longer be the obsession it's made into.
@onetwothereefour8 жыл бұрын
stephen finch This. you don't have to 'kill' your ego in order to not be controlled by it. Somehow everyone thinks that ego's are demonic things that lead us away from our true self. It's a load of hogwash.
@REMEMBERFINCH8 жыл бұрын
Can you kill a thought? Can you ignore a thought? Ego is created by believing one thought linked to another linked to another. It is referred to as ego death because the realization that it is only that is also the realization that what you took yourself to be is actually not real and you are left with emptiness and in that sense it is death and can be quite confusing. it's best to not be concerned with killing it off. rather find out how much of your life is based on belief and what you know is true (and truth is self verifying) and that alone should put things into perspective.
@almasih41507 жыл бұрын
I disagree the ego is just a game we have it for a reason, it is not our true self, when the light of consciousness shines throughout it the ego becomes insecure and exposed and it cannot survive. Ultimately we are not our ego, our ego is a tiny spec of the vast awareness and consciousness that is out there. Read Power of Now by Eckart Tolle. - The evolution of consciousness is the next step for mankind,

Love this video! Ego really is a fascinating thing to discuss. And the thing avout the ego I feel is that it's so sneaky and adaptable. When you think you're making progress and you're not judging, not identifying with thought patterns etc, that's your ego feeling thretened and telling you not to keep working on yourself. It really is like a really hard to kill parasite living inside your brain. But like you're saying - even that is ok! Everything just is.

Ego is always at work. Always. That is just the way it is. But, living more in the present or being aware of just one point on your body, for example a belly, how it has a life of its own and you are awaee of it, suddenly you will see that ego always works. But, at this moment you dont live in your head anymore. You are aware of tgoughts, not the thoughts. Its like thoughts are volumed down.

It is popular to believe in these theories. All of evolution and the struggle of life forms has been to separate the organism and make it a separate individual that is now called the ego. While a car may be a collection of molecules which are a collection of atoms which are a collection of sub atomic particles which are waveforms of energy, in the end... it's still a frikin car. It is all of the things that make it up and it is also more than the sum of its parts. The cars essence is in the pattern of the collective and not the collective itself. To lose your "ego" is to lose yourself. We are what we desire to be as long as we take those desires and turn them into reality. I see myself as a good man. In that image I hold as the good man I desire to be, I have ideals. If I fail to live up to those ideals I have 3 choices. 1- I can realize my failure and strive to do better at living up to my ideals 2- I can alter my ideals to make my perception of what being a "good man" is. 3- I can alter my goals of being a good man and settle for less than my true hearts desire. 2 and 3 are cop outs and people will go to elaborate lengths to justify choosing options 2 and 3... like this concept of the ego being a bad thing that needs to eliminated in one way or another.
@kingcharlie51266 жыл бұрын
The1stDukeDroklar I think I get what you’re saying. Makes sense, but the only question I have about that is this: if I’m not mistaking, you say that changing your ideals about what you think you are is a cop out, but what if a person actually objectively has bad ideals that they need to re-evaluate? Do bad ideals even exist in your opinion?

as I was watching this video I began to reflect on something I address in all of my journal entries. I don't start it with "dear diary" I start my entry with "higher being within," what I noticed while watching your video is my ego was not becoming gradually more numb with my awareness and improvement on it, but rather my ego was evolving to where it is now calling upon my "higher being within" for answers and (due to subconscious writing exercises) my higher being within answers all the questions I have. I love your videos and I think you speak the closest thing to my truth. respect and keep up the good work:)

So only way to make space for Love is when YOU get rid of negative thoughts= energies because these stop us from gaining more knowlege. The SECRET to experience the next level of consciousness is to get rid of your EGO- example : backbiting, spreading rumours, vulguar language, deliberately putting labels on people - fat/ ugly / mental Thinking that you are better than others by looks Also CHEATING on spouse very unwise because it takes one away from our true self so one is actually ROBBING ONESELF of TRUE JOY.

ego is an essential part of being human. its part of our survival on the planet. as such i would think the challenge is to cultivate a positive and constructive ego rather than eliminate it. for most of us following a middle path in relion or spiritual life, ego is important but should be controlled. a Buddhist month or Sufi shiek will seek to destroy their ego and reach spiritual heights. this is within all of us but many of us will tend to opt towarda a middle path where our ego is not leading us to a narrow set of thougta as descirbed in the excellent video. rather our ego needs to be a slave to our higher self .

Got some gifts for Christmas. Wasn’t satisfied with what I got, so I hide what I feel because I didn’t want to get anyone feeling negatively about me. I started thinking about why would I be ungrateful for the gifts I had gotten. I wanted all the trendy stuff to make me feel better. I start to analyze everything about myself. I wanted all of it to make myself feel better or “upgraded”. I feel I need these things to complete me. This could be called low self esteem to put it simply, but it’s much bigger than that. To want and have things to hang on to so I could feel a sense of value towards myself, is what I wanted. Now I think it’s pointless, to hang on to grudges or wants or any emotional connections. I feel like I’m an observer now, “I” doesn’t exist anymore. It’s just existence that is there, very neutral. But I only felt like that for a moment. I realize now everything that negative I hang on to. I despise myself because I don’t fit society’s expectations. And I try to get as close as I can just so I can feel like I can belong. Because when there’s a sense of belonging there’s a feeling of security. And all this analyzing I do is just an excuse to get away from my insecurities. And I feel so negatively of just about everything my life has become, because most of what I do isn’t important to me anymore. And to shift things into what I want them to be will be very difficult to do, mostly because of feelings. I feel like I got a glimpse of what ego death could be. I feel like I need to experience ego death mostly because I think it would make my view of everything more clear and better

The central theorem is that something inside of us demands our lives to be worth living. Ego depends upon the concept that praise, both self praise and the praise of others, counts as worth. So ego is always striving to get praise. If we think our purpose in life is to be successful then ego is driving us.

The reverse psychology of 'Ego' Thw word 'Ego' is used as tool to fracture your psyche and create multiple personalities with cognitive disonance. As soon as a person is confronted with the imaginary ego and shown how it operates, they create a seperate self or 'Non-Ego-Personality' (NEP), the nep then becomes the shallow judgemental ego whilst the person tries to subdue their natural self ('Ego') . they veiw others and judge them based on wether they are being 'egoey' it becomes a way to control other people by pointing out the ilusory flaw of them being too 'egoey'. By fracturing the psyche into Ego and Non-Ego you create a submissive Non-Ego character who is afraid to speak out and be their natural self for fear of being judged, in their mind they are under the self imposed illusion of 'being a better person', which in itself is a form of arrogance and used as a level to judge everyone else by. The Non-Ego allows others to control it and submits more willingly for fear of being seen to be too egoey The creation of two conflicting personalities within a person creates cognitive disonance, on the one hand they have the natural self wanting to be itself and they have the fractured 'non-ego-personality' contradicting and trying to subdue their natural self, the two opposing personalities create cognitive dissonance.
@rogueninja1858 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this. I've known quite a few people that display what you define as NEP. They are not good to be around for a lot of time. Initially they seem to be understanding and pretty open minded but they become judgmental after some time, manipulative and dominant . Could you please elaborate the concept of cognitive dissonance and who invented the term (NEP)?
@reggaemow8 жыл бұрын
maybe the trick is to see that both of these conflicting personalities are illusion. then both voices will relax into a natural state of being, with the insight of knowing that the voices who claims recognition and acknowledgement for its own existence only is a construction of the mind
@sakurasepuku43748 жыл бұрын
I think is more dangerous that NEP state, because does not allow us to see that we are being egoey and we victimize sometimes or think we are angels so egoless and everyone else is corrupted and want to bully us, etc.

i'm fed up with wanting to know everything, in the end we don't know as much as we think we do, and i dont think we ever will, not saying that there isn't any truth to peoples views and opinions, but why is it so important for us to know things, even i do it and i keep asking myself why, why do i want to know, why does it matter to me ?
@BeingCyberBullied8 жыл бұрын
RogueNinja cognitive dissonance the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioural decisions and attitude change. cognitive dissonance is the mental stress or discomfort experienced by an individual who holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values at the same time; performs an action that is contradictory to their beliefs, ideas, or values; or is confronted by new information that conflicts with existing beliefs, ideas or values. So basicaly what is was trying to convey was the idea that the ego and the nep will be in conflict as you consciously try to cancel out the ego and allow the nep to dominate. I don't know if the term 'NEP' is used elsewhere but i didn't have a name for newly created personality that takes over from the ego. When freud and Jung were writing their theories, they never really had that much to work with, they were the first to really push these ideas into the mainstream thinking and as such everything is only their interpretation of things, I see it as Freud was trying to explain and justify his own interaction with his reality as much as he was trying to describe a human condition. We can never accept any psychological diagnosis as 100% acurate and any ideas and theories should never be regarded as 100% set in stone... for example A grown man has uncontrolable episodes of rage and anger coupled with depression and addiction. The man was sexually abused as a young infant at around the age of 6 months but because the episode was too traumatic, his psyche has locked it away forever and he cannot remember it at all, growing up his mother never bonded with him and was more interested in getting drunk and getting laid that actually being there for her child. After many therapy sessions the man decides with his pyschologists aproval and influence that his mother is to blame for his problems and so he sets forth to work on this.... The trouble is that the real cause, the abuse as an infant is never mentioned so somewhere deep inside the man there will never be closure, yet we as a society blindly accept what these psychologists tell us and postulate as definites So even though over time Freud and Jung might have seen many patients to study, we can never be 100% confident that their diagnosis were true

I completely agree! Staying on this ego melting path is the most wonderful discovery/ theory. I also enjoy this song that speaks of ego melting, it keeps me smiling. open.spotify.com/track/7pQTPzv6uRH0OGivMOXNnR

Awesome! I have never really had the pleasure of having the ego described in such a comprehensive way. I also love the notion of letting go of the idea of bad AND good, letting go of the need to label and conclude everything and everyone's value. It's not good or bad, it just is. You may now chill and enjoy it all

The Ego needs to shut up. Cognitive Dissidence?

I think the next stage of human evolution in that we will ditch the ego, it's not needed anymore
