An Endoscopic Lumbar Laminotomy is a minimally invasive spine procedure that offers an alternative to a traditional or open Laminotomy. It is probably the least invasive surgery for effective treatment of spinal stenosis.
The lamina is part of the bony arch of the vertebra that protects the spinal cord from damage. Almost every one of us will experience spinal degeneration and have spinal stenosis, meaning narrowing of spinal canal from fattening (hypertrophic) spinal ligaments, bone spur (facet arthritis), or bulging or herniations with osteophytes. Spinal canal narrowing will put pressure on the spinal nerves, it can cause back pain that radiates down the lower leg, along with other symptoms.

I had this procedure done. And Im still suffering severely. I am still seeking further images and further surgeries and pain treatments needed, don’t let Dr John Paul Kleimeyer do any spine work for you. I let him do my surgery and I still seeking further treatments. And don’t let Stanford work on your spine.

Depends on if your nerve roots are compressed or if the cauda equina is compressed. The cauda is the big sack of nerves that runs through the middle like a large rope… when that is compressed it’s much more complicated. Happened to me, and I’ve been in pain for 2 years now post op. The operation saved me from being in a wheel chair. But the damage the surgery does to your back, and the likelihood you will still have severe leg pain is typically underplayed, it’s very likely you have serious pain post op for a long time.

do you mean you get new pain from the damages caused by the surgery? Is your back less stable from the surgery?

@@speedingAtI94 yea I never had back pain before the surgery, and I was still strong as an ox.. after the surgery I couldn’t bend or pick anything up.. I’m 6’5 so everything on the floor is extremely hard to get to.. on top of that, the scar tissue made the nerve become compressed again so I have tightness and pain In my legs that can’t be stretched or rehabbed… I personally think it’s less stable because I just can’t do most things, it’s super painful in the incision area, and feels like my torso is going to fall straight through the floor when I stand… constantly angry and feeling helpless. Life sucks. 😊

@@greg9069 Thank you for the reply and I hope you find relief soon. It seems like every option either doesn't work long term or has serious side effect. What is important to me is to avoid getting worse.

Why can't they go under the vertebrae without extracting any bone tissue???? The lost portion of the bone might lead to spondylolisis and that might lead to spondylolisthesis… which is AWFUL!!!!

These animations are fantastic! I just had surgery for spinal stenosis. It wasn’t done endoscopic though. They used a kerison tool which from what I understand nibbles away the parts they want to remove. They did a laminotomy at L3-L4 and L4-L5.

@@bamafan62 I had this done twice. The first one in 2019 was great. In a couple of weeks I was working in my workshop. They had to repeat the surgery last July. I haven’t recovered so well from this one. Seems that I’m having a lot of inflammation. They gave me prednisone which made me feel a lot better. Once I can get this inflammation controlled I’m sure I’ll be good to go.

@@bamafan62 that sucks! I tried chiropractor, acupuncture, pt, nothing worked! Whenever I see someone walking hunched over I know exactly what they’re going through. Maybe surgery is the only thing that might work for you. Best of luck.
