Good day from Nova Scotia I started playing guitar about eight years ago. Just before the pandemic I started fingerpicking and because of the lockdowns I had plenty of time to practice. Just recently I decided to learn to strum and flatpick properly. I know Travis picking patterns and never even thought about using them to learn to flatpick. I like the,way you think outside the box to make learning easier. Thanks

That’s cross picking, NOT flat picking. Flat picking involves using the tune of the song, in combination with licks to create a break in the song that emphasizes the melody and the licks.

That's not bad, but it'll be good exercise to force yourself to do alternate picking so you can do what you want when you want :)
