What is going on in Romans 7?

Just as God freed Israel from the slavery in Egypt, so we are freed from sin. And so we have peace with God and have this peaceful state in our hearts. But then there is Romans 7. What's going on in Romans 7? If you are not firm in the faith or if you have heard an incorrect explanation, this chapter can be very confusing. Because Paul says in verse 19: “For the good, that I would, I do not, but the evil which I would not, that I do!” How should we explain this chapter? Paul was an apostle full of holy spirit, how can this be? The person in Romans 7 has a battle within the heart, this does not speak about peace at all. Is Paul really speaking about himself or is he explaining something else?
He says in verse 9 “I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. “ Paul says that he was without law. But we all know that Paul was a Pharisee, he was raised up with the law. In another scripture he says in Philippians, he says:
“circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews, concerning the law a Pharisee. Concerning zeal, persecuting the church, concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. “ Phil 3:5.6
So in his whole life, Paul kept the law and did it perfectly! So what does he mean, when he says I lived once without the law? From this verse it is already becoming clear that Paul is not speaking about himself. He speaks about Adam, when Adam sinned in the garden of Eden, he died. He died spiritually for God. And everyone after Adam, everyone that is born afterwards is born in Adam and in the same sinful state.
I we read further in Romans 7 we see the same pattern coming back every time: “We know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal sold under sin.” Rom 7:14 How could Paul say about himself - I am carnal sold under sin? Christ came and brought freedom from sin and paid the highest price. We are ransomed by the blood of Christ - so it is quite the opposite. It is written: “For you are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Cor 6:20
We are not sold under sin but ransomed by the blood of Christ. We are bought with a price. We are freed by the blood of Christ. Again, here in verse 14 you can see that Paul is not speaking about himself but he speaks about the state of a person that is not freed from sin.
And in verse 18 of Romans 7 it is written: “For I know, that in me, that is in my flesh, dwells no good thing! “ Paul says that in his flesh does not dwell anything good. How can this be? Because it is also written: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit that is in you?” 1 Cor 6:19 The body speaks about the flesh right? Its tangible. The body is a temple of God! And to say that there does not dwell anything good in there, is impossible. God himself is living in the body. So again we see that Paul Romans 7 speaks about a person that is not born again. He speaks about a person that did not go through the narrow gate because his body is still sinful. He speaks about the state of a person before the cross.
And if we continue in Romans 7 this pattern comes back every time. It says in verse 19: “For the good, that I would, I do not, but the evil which I would not, that I do!” This could be a police report of a criminal saying: I wanted to do good but ultimately I did something evil and it just went in the opposite way. Many people use the words of Paul to justify sins and they say: look at Paul, he was also sinning. But it is dangerous to believe like that as Paul was absolutely not writing about himself!
