I was on TSC 16% layer feed for years. Last July my chickens were producing daily till one day they totally stopped. My chickens are Barred Rocks So they produce even in the winter but they totally stopped in July. My brother gave me a bag of local made Feed around Early December and they actually started producing again until I ran out of that bag. Because his local grain producer was so far away from me I switched to another feed chain and my chickens stopped laying the next day. The chain store is Kahoots. They are all in on it. And we as Americans are standing by watching.

I agree it is bigger then just this one situation. Purina/Nutrena owned by Nestle & Land'O'Lakes. Land'O'Lakes is one of the largest producers of eggs in this country. Funny how they can own so many of the processed foods for humans and animals. Why not stop backyard chickens from laying eggs and force us to buy theirs in the store? It is all bigger then this.

It took REAL pet lovers to finally change the way Americans were feeding their dogs and cats. Real Pet people created, Manufatured, marketed and distributed their own quality feed. Here’s a few, Taste Of the Wild, Fromm, Stella & Chewy’s, Artemis, Orijen. All designed to actually provide what dogs and cats need. Not corporate garbage. America is at that stage with Poultry and others. Don’t let our Government and Corporations destroy our livelihood

@@nunyanope4988 Maybe you haven't got to their "bad feed" yet? I've noticed various different months that people have said their chickens quit laying. Some have stated their chickens quit laying in December, meanwhile mine quit laying in October for two months. Logically this means that those who quit much earlier got to the new batch quicker(Ohio is a big poultry State. I regularly see chickens in yards all over the place). I also feed my chickens kitchen scraps(leftover beef and noodles, eggs not eaten by grandchildren, veggie soup, etc. and have always done so as it saves on the feed bill). During the summer, when I mow the yard, I rake up that Orchard Grass, Red and White Clover and Dandelion leaves and give it to them. I have raised chickens for years now with various breeds and have never experienced this before. My chickens are winter layers. It has to be the feed. Switched feed and like magic, getting 50-60 eggs a week out of 24 hens(Speckled Sussex, Jersey Giants and Light Brahma).

No. My chickens never stopped laying. Reduced---yes. Stopped---no. Why? Because they are all different ages, different breeds, it's Winter and I don't add extra light to go against their natural God given design. Every back yard chicken owner doesn't buy Producer's Pride Tractor Supply feed and their chickens reduced egg production because it's winter...and it's to be expected. Simple as that.

Purina has left two Amino Acids out of all their feeds including all the feeds they manufacture for Tractor Supply. The two Amino Acids that are missing are Lysine and Methionine. The Amino acids may appear to be in the feeds but not in sufficient quantities to allow chickens to lay eggs. The nutrients you need for chickens to lay eggs are in the following foods: Sunflower seeds, Soybean meal, peas, chick peas, oats, pumpkin seeds. The Purina feeds may also be deficient in Calcium.

It wasn't the weather. I got big bodied chickens, so cold don't stop them. Mine stopped laying in October, before it got cold. Completely stopped for 2 months. They were not molting neither and won't be till spring. I switched to different feed from a different manufacturer and voila, 50-60 eggs a week out of Speckled Sussex, Jersey Giants and Light Brahma(24 hens) regardless of rain or snow. In fact, I've never had chickens that have completely stopped laying, except while molting or if broody.

I see your feed has a higher Lysine, and Methonine than Tractor supply feed. It is an essential amino acids for chickens. What is up with that? So is the proteins. Seems you have it in your feed what TSC don't have in theirs. HMMM...Well, let me tell you, after having chickens aged 8 months to NOT LAY EGGS FOR OVER 5 MONTHS, isn't a light and weather issue. Sorry, not buying that.

Also...u do realize chickens naturally lay out slow down in winter? This is a time where their insides rest repair for egg production in Spring? It's possible keep them laying with correct things but really they need time heal on inside. Healthier chickens happier chickens. I don't think a lot people know this.

@ParagonRidgeRanch I'm glad you mentioned the protein. People feeding scratch, should quit. It's only about 8%. Dumor is 16%. Ours that comes out of a mill in Kingston, is 20%. Free range chickens get into the dog food and eat scraps. We also have some in a pen just being feed the egg pellets. Ours slow down, but don't quit. I also give 6% fat sweet feed when they're molting. The extra fat seems to help them through it.

I too was using the feed in question from TSC. In September all 20 of my hens stopped laying completely. I have many varieties of chickens and it is common during winter months for them to slow down in their production but never stop completely. I went to the local feed store and purchased feed from a local milling company. It wasn’t long and the chickens started laying again. Very scary what is going on here.

I got lucky with this since when I started my flock last year, I bought about 1.5 years worth of food (grains and seed for 6 birds and only one bag of organic 15% layer) and immediately started farming my yard. I'm Ketovore/carnivore so it's almost all for them. I started with cow peas (black and pink eye) and collards. They love the pink-eye purple hull greens and they make some amazing orange yokes. I also got a cover crop mix and they also love daikon radish greens. I was able to supplement 50% of the birds diet with fodder, and they supplement with bugs, deconstructing compost piles and food scraps. I have a maggot bucket as well which is good for about 9 months of the year (even in FL the flies take the winter off). By mid to end of 2023 the birds should be off grains and seeds period and be eating food produced on property only. Closed loop eggs and meat on an 80x125 lot can be done.

No wonder my chickens stop laying eggs for 3 months because I fed them that Dumor feed from tractor supply cuz a big bag was cheaper. So after 3 months with no eggs I gave my chickens away to a farmer who has lots of chickens. He's feeding them different feed and they're laying eggs again.

My birds were laying every day until last summer when they just stopped laying completely! I thought that my older birds were just played out. So I hatched out almost 2 dozen more pullets early last fall and they should be laying by now and I’ve got nothing to show for it except for a feed bill. I just recently heard about this feed issue with Tractor Supply and started buying my feed from a local co-op and now they’re starting to lay again. I found out that this is happening to a lot of people who have backyard chickens. I’m convinced that some thing is going on with Dumor and Producers Pride layer feed made by Purina? Idk what they did? But they did something to cause laying hens to shut down.

So many people coming out of the woodwork and saying they’ve had no eggs since summer? Why were chicken forums not full of questions back on July, August, September and beyond??? Why only now when Tractor Supply feed was implicated. And who implicated them? There is no official word that I can find linking them to any wrongdoing. Again, what were all of these hundreds if not thousands of people doing staying silent for 6 months? Doesn’t add up to logic at all.

Chickens typically either slow down or stop laying during the winter months. I think many people blamed the weather until people started posting the same problems with the same feed. The variables are way too widespread to totally zero in on the problem. Some chickens free range, some get table scraps, some get additional supplements, the weather, extra lighting etc.,etc. The biggest problems seem to stem from the feed which is PURINA. Hope this helps.

very good information. I WAS buying Dumor from TSC, I wasn't having any noticeable issue until this last bag. My chickens and turkeys are free range with pellets given morning and evening mostly so I can leave for work and as a treat. They had started coming out of their molt and had been laying well for 2-3 weeks. But this last bag has just accumulated on the ground. They would look at it but would not touch it. I have switched to goat feed. They were skepticable of it at first but after a week and watching each other try it, they are now back to gathering and eating as they were. Animals are not dummy's. These birds were untrusting of the food itself.

I fed Producers Pride 16% mini pellet exclusively to this set of laying hens. For two years exactly (fall, 2020 hatch) I fed the mini pellets as they were the cheapest. I've only seen it at TSC. Originally the 40 pound bag was $7.99 and is now $10.99. With the exception of garden waste or purchased scratch they got the 16% Producers Pride mini pellet bought at TSC. I was rolling in eggs until early fall. Several molted, production slowed, the molted ones looked worse than I remember hens experiencing. In November all 15 hens had quit laying. Zero eggs. I bought eggs with 15 layers. In the past with the literally hundreds of layers I've had I've used lights/timers, higher protein feeds and so forth but I really don't fool with that anymore as I'm getting enough for me and a very few customers. I stopped feeding the Producers Pride 16% mini pellet from TSC around Christmas and bought higher protein feeds including meat bird at 22%. Eighteen and twenty percent rounded it out. Within five days I had 3 eggs in the boxes after almost two month of zero eggs. Within a few more days a half dozen eggs/day from 14 layers. The other day I had 11 eggs from 13 layers (with one laid up and isolated). I'm guessing they are averaging 8, 9 eggs/day right now and no Producers Pride 16% mini pellet from TSC. I need to start selling again and fast!

Supplement diet even if roam. Scraps I can. Fresh water. Scratch cracked corn. Ours haven't stopped laying. I don't know what Sept has to do with anything. I've never given my hens meat. I've never given them meal worms. Scraps. Oatmeal, bread crackers, broccoli lettuce,...etc... Organic feed etc...I've never paid for expensive feed. Ever. A lot new people with no ch9cken experience trying raise hens...like a garden...caught up in $$$ this that...other quite a few really don't know what doing. That's part of problem I think. Give them hens your scraps sonybthrow down disposal or garbage. Keep coop clean and heat light. Fresh water. Sing to them hold them. Idk what all think going on but I'm just gonna do what we always done how we done all these years. Chickens is work. Loads fun.

The truck certainly doesn't go to multiple manufacturers picking up multiple kinds of feed, NO, instead ALL feed, goat, chicken, horse, dog, cat, rabbit, ALL feed, is made by the same manufacturer at tractor supply! Every brand, same manufacturer! Same distributors, different names! Want good feed, make your own, don't know how, here's how; Get: Cracked corn Pumpkin seeds (optional) Sunflower seeds Diatomaceous earth (optional) Hole oats Meal worms (optional) OMEGA EGG MAKER. Mix 1/3 of each large bags of feed. Set the other 2/3rds aside to mix again later, mix 1/3 of each bag into a large trash can/container, and mix well! This feed can be fermented for extra nutrition, just add water and wait for oats to sprout then feed to chickens, this feeding not only last longer, but it's also a LOT cheaper then feed that's pre mixed! And it last 4xs as long! Seriously try it. Best of luck guys! I feed this to all of my animals, my chickens, and my pigs! And it's enough to supply everyone with what they need, of course pigs don't get omega egg maker, but they get everything else and it's all natural, and not processed! And you make it yourself so you KNOW what's in it, just like you want to know what you're eating, well don't you wanna know what you're food is eating, besides a pellet, what's in a pellet? 16% protein and?????? Junk the other 85%? Smh wow 85% filler is what 16% protein is. THINK about it! God bless guys! My chickens lay all year round, 2 eggs a day!

Awesome info! Crockers said to come watch your video about this whole issue. Thanks for getting into the nitty gritty of the whole tractor supply feed. We dont have chickens yet but learning about things first so we can avoid some costly trial and error. Appreciate all the nerdy details! Sending love from AZ!

My production reds don’t care what they eat. They lay almost every day. From 5 hens I get at least 33 eggs a week. The Marans and olive eggers lay when they feel like it. I don’t blame the feed just the breeds.

Yes I unfortunately open two bags of tractor feed when they finally confessed they changed the formular can’t afford to replace feed have grass been chopping up and feeding them that someone suggested goat feed supplement with little improvement . Since we have a feed store that is advertising the chaff I will add that feed everything scrap wise . Stink bugs off the menu😂 but tomato worms are chicken caviar. Oh the delightful squeals of happiness I get also Feed potatoes crickets big ugly things. Worms mealy worms grubs . Trying to expand their pen only have 8 girls one filling in as a rooster best crower in the neighborhood.

I've used the feed tractor supply sells & the feed Atwood sells . Chickens just don't do as well .. I will now only use 20% layer pellets Big V feeds puts out .. I also only will buy it from BeeLine feeds..I also use the super charger supplement & it's fantastic & it really makes a difference when the chickens are going through molt .. That super charger is also really good thing to feed during the winter especially if you have chickens that prefer to be outside at night in the cold instead of inside a nice warm coop ..

I have been feeding my layers the Tractor Supply Company for quite a few years. this year, my chickens will not eat it: I have had it in their feed trough for 2 weeks! and it was barely touched. I made sure it didn't get moldy either. I ended up tossing it in their yard. Maybe some little field mice eat it, but not my chickens. I started feeding them whole grain: Rye, barley, oats. I toss all this outside as they are supposed to be extremely good foragers ands layers. They do a bit better on the fish meal, but perhaps the bits are a bit big, or they need to be moistened. I added calf manna. and they kinda eat that. I got these sapphire gems this spring, so age is not an excuse. I have resorted to making them an omelet each morning, from unsold eggs and they LOVE that. [but I do too.] Out of 22 hens I got only 14 eggs yesterday! We have extremely high temperatures right now, which is not great for them either. They prefer water from metal containers, not plastic. I'm looking at everything that might stop them from laying eggs and I'm coming up empty. I'm going to buy an air cooler this afternoon. they will be more comfortable at least. Help!

Wish you were near me in northern middle Tennessee....we give Calf Manna year round, but ours stopped laying this past fall. I thought it was the due to the summer from hell/drought and back to back heat waves.....they did start laying again at Christmas, but just a few. None under 3, most age 5-6.... Am shopping co-op now.....

My chickens stoped laying around first of October and they just now starting lay again idk if it’s feed or what but I don’t use tractor supply feed I always buy from my local co-op and up till now I haven’t got a single egg since October till now I’m from Alabama and weather is pretty crazy here it don’t know if it wants to be spring summer or fall during our winter months but I don’t think it’s the feed from tractor supply that’s my opinion this winter has been different idk what it is.

My hens stopped laying and 2 died. I started feeding TSC feed about when this started, not thinking, as walmart doesn't have chicken feed hardly anymore. If you offer anything else, they eat it like they are starving and won't touch the TSC. I'm glad I saw this, and all the people saying TSC feed is doing this. I'll never buy this crap again.

Our next-door neighbor's chickens are maybe 3-4 years old. They stopped laying around Nov/Dec 2022, going down from ~8 per day to 1 every other day. We don't pay attention to chicken things, but I started seeing YT videos about chickens not laying and how people were switching to different feed. Our neighbor heard the same. Then I saw Tucker Carlson had a guest on saying the same thing. Our neighbor dropped Purina and switched to a local blend from a local grain supply. Two weeks later, and their chickens are up to 50% of normal (it's February, so production is a bit lower than summer). They're not up to 100% for this time of year, but something was definitely foul in that Purina feed. (this video had a bit too much fluff that could have been edited out. Personal opinion)
