Just picked up some Grappa for the first time today. To me it tastes pretty similar to Brandy; it's got that prune-ish aftertaste that I personally like a lot. I made a variation of a Whiskey sour basically... added the Grappa, egg white, lemon juice, camomile tea and then a bit of honey to sweeten it. Once it was all shaken together on ice I poured into a chilled glass and garnished with a lemon twist and some peeled white grapes on a toothpick. It was really good. The prune flavor really came thru on this one and I used quite a heavy dose of grappa. Couldn't really taste any unpleasantness from the alcohol. The one that I bought was made from white grape skins and it was 40%/80 proof.

The Georgian version of Grappa is called Chacha which I have had in Georgian restaurants in Istanbul, Turkey and Kiev, Ukraine years before I ever knew what Grappa was. One infamous Georgian tavern in Istanbul was a grimey rowdy joint above a bus station. Loud music and singing, no menu just eat whatever is put in front of you, and illegal bathtub Chacha in Evian bottles are poured into shot glasses and chugged. Well, I finally I brought fancy bottle Grappa the other day. I've been told that drinking culture in Georgia and Italy regarding Grappa/Chacha is different. As opposed to chugging you are supposed to sip it as an digestif. Well, I tried but I guess I'm just too low class for that cuz after a meat heavy meal, my friends and I slipped back to chugging and slammin' em back! I didn't feel so good tha next tho. Honestly I can't remember how it tasted.

@@PotluckWithAli which drinks/mixtures were most medicinal, any backstop?
Not supposed to put ice in first. You're already diluting it by doing that.

The obnoxious music ruined it for me. I couldn't hear what he was saying cause the music was so loud. That's honest feedback

good story and all but your cocktail defeats the purpose of trying to enjoy the grappa when you end up mixing it with a bunch of other booz,,instead you should keep it simpler to only focus on the grappa flavor ,,for example a gin and tonic ,you dont add other spirits to that like vodka or whisky or cinzano as it would defeat the purpose
