I like MGC at Dior and l also liked Virginie V at Chanel. Their shows may be underwhelming but when you see the clothes in person, they are beautiful. They both design for the PAYING clients who want consistent and reliable clothing. They are not pandering to the hypebae internet critics. Why is it so wrong to design clothing for real, paying clients who don't want clothing that drastically changes every 6 months. Both designers have plenty of shoes, bags, and other accessories for the trendy crowd.

So true! I think so much of fashion commentary is focused on what is on the runway vs how the clothes exist in real time and in real life. Great points❤❤❤

Well, majority of "fashion influencer" who critics both mgc and vv are men.. they still cant move on from galliano, it only good for display bc majority of regular woman dont want to wear those ridiculous dress.

I couldn't disagree with you more on the clothes and agree with you more on the accessories. MGC and VV IMO made horrible clothes, and I like commercial wearable, but not boring, dull, and downright ugly colors, proportions, textures and very dowdy mature. And the styling on the catwalk made them look even worse. Yes, bags and shoes, jewelry for both brands was very good, and appealed to younger customer, with less money. Yet, the clothes sold, that's why their contracts lasted so long, so I'm astounded, that my commercial taste ( but with some fashion flair ) which is so easy to please, found Dior boring and basic and Chanel, mostly ugly. And if you had that kind of money why buy that ? My theory , for Chanel and Dior its for the Parisian brand mythos and yes, the clothes are wearable ( but still bad ). In contrast, YSL another legendary French brand, those clothes are much less wearable, under current designer, so rich women want to look "classic" but not quiet luxury like Phoebe/The Row, they want some prints, some color, but in basic shapes and of good fabric. That's my own guess, why MGC and VV is popular.

The scandal with Dior is the same as watergate. I’d wager every single fashion conglomerate does the same thing but only Dior was caught.

Similar to Viard, MGC may profitable today but often times today isn't good enough for these huge conglomerates. They want to see young customers falling for a brand and desiring and buying the work and thus cementing future sales for years to come. They want profitable today and even more profitable tomorrow, and I'm not entirely sure MGC - with her eye for making practical, purchasable clothing for today's mature woman - can promise that.

Dior needs help. MGC has betrayed her own ethics with the last collection. LVMH is not going to play around with market failure and lack of inspiration. Agree. No credibility on the supply chain.

I think she was just doing what has been commercially demanded of her. But Dior will have to announce that they are making changes as its one of their major houses and its flopping right now bc of the business demands

JW could actually work well at Dior balancing his love of art with commercial hits; something Raf struggled with during his time there

I could see Chiuri at Gucci, especially with the last collection which I frankly thought was an aberrant monstrosity, especially against the refined feminine elegance that is THE Dior code (it kind of reminded me of Michele's final excesses at Gucci). But, Sabato seems to be on the upswing (and I absolutely adore the pendulum swing into a more streamlined, wearable aesthetic).

MGC is just the worst. She might be profitable (somehow? I have no idea who is buying that dreck) but I really hope she's gone for good.

If this is true, who do you think would be the best person for Loewe (a brand I'm obsessed with)? I love Jonathan Anderson's Loewe but I can imagine that he would do great work at Dior!

I don’t know about you guys, but I really feel like Kanye West would do great at Loewe I know mentally he’s a little off his rocker, so it probably won’t happen, but I could definitely see some dope pieces coming from him with that amount of backing and creativity freedom

FFS stop going on about Galliano at Dior. That ship has long passed and like the titanic it won't come back.

poor Anna, she got cynical and stopped trying to be an innovator for sometime now, instead deciding to try and become a power broker. looks like that paint is starting to chip...but i'll give her credit for how cunning and ruthlessly she has secured her position at conde nast, digging into them with an eagles claw - they would probably have to hire a swat team for the coup they would need to pull off so they could pry her from her from that throne. But that day is going to come, and it will happen so fast you wont even have time to blink, let alone make your head spin (I have a feeling only hers will).

I had a epiphany, why I dislike MGC and VV's designs - its the VIBE. Michael Kors is very basic, the accusation of many fashion critics, I love MK, because of his vibe - sporty, polished, relaxed American glamor. But Dior and Chanel under those 2 women have the same vibe - old money French, ( not bourgeoise ), - no personality, conservative taste, sits there quietly without saying anything, very staid and respectable, blends into the background, but the cut and fabric is very good. Compare this to Ralph Lauren American old money, there is a vibe, a definitive personality there. Old money Italy ( Armani ) there is a personality too. Lanvin, Nina Ricci, feminine French vibe, YSL, sexy slinky femme fatale, etc Who is the Dior and Chanel woman who wears those clothes ? The Chanel woman depends on all the Chanel codes, but has no personality of her own. The Dior woman truly has no personality, other than wearing expensive looking clothes that have no distinct look, ( old money French ) not the same as very expensive plain grey T shirt, you know if you know, which looks cheap ( quiet luxury ) Phoebe Philo is minimalist not quiet luxury, so there is a personality there.
