I bought the classic trench 15 years ago, and it still holds up beautifully-timeless design and exceptional quality, worth every penny. However, the more recent products have been disappointing, both in design and, more importantly, in quality. Consumers are smart; you can’t put out subpar items and still charge a premium. If you want to win back customers, focus on improving the quality.

Burberry is tan trench coats. Burberry is military silhouettes. Burberry is wooly scarves. Burberry is CONSERVATIVE fashion. Burberry is elegant rain gear that keeps the Monarchy dry. Their "North Star" should be Kate Middleton. Would Kate Middleton wear this? (No? Don't sell it!) Tasteful and subtle use of the check pattern. Burberry should not be pursuing "street cred." (I am shocked that Burberry has strayed THIS far from their DNA.) Absolute classic and timeless sportswear that looks like it would prepare one to face the rainy, foggy London weather. Nothing trendy. (How is it that they don't understand that?)

In my opinion Christopher Bailey is the best thing to ever happen to the brand. Under his direction they rose to be the hottest name in the early 2000s. I would say the downfall began with the appointment of Riccardo Tisci, who completely obscured and obliterated the brand’s heritage. Daniel Lee should have kept the brand in its own lane where it was still attainable luxury. The very public ridicule they endured on Succession didn't help either. I really hope they can turn the ship around as I really do love the brand. Glad I bought my staple pieces before the ridiculous price hikes!

Let's not forget the whole bonfire thing. I know... I know... they are not the only ones to do this, but still, people got grossed by it because the brand was seen as attainable luxury not fashionable luxury that set trends. Apart from the designer hickups after C Bailey, Burberry leadership got blinded by greed during their expansion into the far eastern - and particularly the Chinese- markets. Prices went up unreasonably while quality went down leaving behind much of their traditional clientele, the bulk of which were in fact aspirational buyers. Yes, somebody ultra wealthy can enter a store and essentially buy up half of what’s in there, but they don’t call them the 1% for nothing. If for whatever reason they decide they’ve had enough of you the result is empty stores since no one else can afford it. A lot of other luxury brands are finding out the same thing.

It’s a failure to test and resonate with their consumer. Burberry has been overrun with Creative mindsets that have had more of a “build it and they will come approach” than truly learning what their consumer is looking to buy and how they use it. Creating artistic designs for the sake of art does not translate to needs of a consumer. The clothes shouldn’t wear a consumer… it’s the other way around.

If you're searching for an exclusive, venerable British design house, there's no better than Asprey, whose, virtually 'secret', signature stripe is solely known by fellow Asprey shoppers and design professionals. When one wears [or carries] Asprey, one never sees himself coming & going. An Asprey trench, whether purchased today or half a century ago, will last a lifetime [or two!] and the joy of the piece never diminishes as it's made with by top drawer craftsmen.

The moment I saw that new TB logo I was shocked! What an ugly cheap looking logo that is! My personal suggestions to burberry: 1. Change that TB logo - Seriously! It's ugly and unappealing. 2. Focus back on quality - It pisses me off when I see polyster at a premium price. Please don't start again with vegan leather BS, I won't spend my hard earned money on polyester. If you still insist to offer vegan leather you can try using fruit pulp or something similar. Be creative! 3. Street fashion will never be chic and exclusive. It's SHEIN material & look at a premium price.

Burberry should have kept the plaid element understated. Their NY outlet, Woodbury Common Outlet, literally have bus loads of Asian tourists who will queue outside the store (with newly bought suitcases) to get in and fill up their bags with discounted clothing. The outlets have really cheapen the brand. So glad I bought my trench coat in the mid-1970’s and have passed it done to my daughter who just loves its classic quality for being so retro/vintage.

It's not just Burberry that's in trouble, I think. Many luxury brands have been making wrong moves for ages! They must go back to the times when design and quality came first and business (money, money, money) came second. Designers deserve respect and time to create and buyers deserve lessons in what's worth. Luxury brands are not meant to compete in the trend market; their spirit is just the opposite. I've always been inspired by Burberry's classic Brit cool elegance. I've had some Zara trousers that replicate the iconic pattern for over twenty years and I'll wear them proudly whatever happens to the brand, probably one of the few ones I'd be happy to pay for if I could afford it. I hope Burberry finds its voice again. No doubt it's a British treasure.

This whole business model of syndicated luxury doesn't make any sense: The goods are supposed to perform like commodities financially while desperately trying to project an image of custom or almost bespoke items. Burberry needs to do what Armani or Ralph Lauren had done for decades. Although Burberry had diffusion lines, but like the company itself it lacks focus of what each diffusion line really does. Each line bleeds into each other so its target customers is confused as they are. They need to bring back the Prorsum line as what Christopher Bailey had done to set a "ceiling" for its brand, ie "Giorgio Armani" . Then a normal line which is more accessible to the wider consumer, i.e Emporio Armani. And a youth line, i.e Armani Exchange. Without these diffusion lines, the brand can not thrive as it can't serve every single target segments. You can't have an image of luxury, while it's assessible, it will not work!

Why was there no discussion of the period that Angela Ahrendts was their CEO just before Mr. Bailey was promoted to both CEO & chief designer? She went on to Apple running retail but left after five years.

every designer brands are made cheap now, or most of them. It's like European cars, they're all made to work well between 30K to 45K miles, then they breakdown, but by then we would want to move onto a new car. Same with designer brands. And people will keep buying them. It's genius.

To start with those zombie models are a real turn off . I had an original trench coat bought back in the 80s and stood the test of time .

1st step to death was branding its main source of income (man on the street) as not being the type of customer they wanted. second step was Tisci and the hideousness of that collection. Then they managed to make the single ugliest website of any designer brand. nope.

It’s not doing so well in China because of their falling/failing economy. Not because of Burberry. They aren’t to blame.

The core consumers are what made these companies into what they are today. By going into the aspirational route you take away the repeated shoppers and take in the once a year shoppers (aspirational consumers) Burberry experienced this decline in the late 1990s but instead of going back to its roots they decided to continue digging the hole. The client that shops at Hermes or Channel isn’t looking for a flashy piece they are looking for a fashion forward timeless addition to their wardrobe with top quality and craftsmanship. What Burberry has been doing since the beginning of this century with producing a lot of their cloths in Asia has really weakened their stance as a quality brand. I know they still make some clothes in UK/England but it’s far between.

Tbh all brands needs to stop relying on the Chinese market. That’s their main problem and it’s like an addiction for these brands.

They increased the price far too much. I feel played, so I haven't bought anything Burberry for years. I'd rather buy another brand.

I heard they had always seen as average in London. I do like them still. I like the thigh high boots with the check pattern and the skirts too. As far as people they show have 2 types of burberry. Like Armani and exchange.

Burberry's collections for decades have been grossly overpriced for the quality. The brand went too far from its "roots," without a doubt.

Burberry died when it stopped being a craft house 30 years ago. Asian sweatshop made clothing; coupled with vulgar fashion worn wrongly by the working classes. Greed kills brands eventually; think Gucci too.

It didn't help that Chavs adopted it, nor that it was so widely faked. I liked Burberry's in the '80s - & I hope it can get back to that elegance.

Burberry just lost its way. It's easier to keep core customers than reinvent the wheel and cheapen the name by marketing to the "street" and outlets.

I have one kislux bag I got in 2019, it's the LV white catogram speedy. It's counter quality and it has a nice honey patina now, so the leather is real. I think whatever makes you happy go for it. I've seen LV with plastic leather and blood red glaze...

They are too greedy to earn money from the middle class, not only the rich people. That’s why these brands are not so luxurious anymore. They deserve it.

Correct, from a very loyal customer, to I don't even want to go to their shop, it is very sad to see, the brand, has lost ALL of its identity, the taste and the style of the British. However, this is not just limited to the Burberry brand itself, I used to love the all other British and Scottish design and brand, and now these days, it all becomes "street wear", which to me, it is simply just a piece of garbage. Don't mean anything. Awful design, no function.
