This change will affect the "bad" trader spots more than the good ones. In Craglorn, Deshan and co. Items already sell realy fast, while i sometimes have to list my item twice at a 25% TTC/MM discount in for example murkmire. We will probably see even more traders and guilds compete for the top spots than we see now which is not necessary a good thing.
@vendettaworm61858 ай бұрын
Totally agree. This change will hurt the off locations, up the price to stay in a good location, and cost us more gold to list items as things will expire faster. We need one trader location so we can all list and compare there. Other games can do this so why not eso?
@lordsuji7 ай бұрын
@@vendettaworm6185 There are massive negatives with central trade systems, not just positives. I think it really comes down to gameplay perspective, like if you dont LOVE trading and seeking out good deals and the mad dash/competitive thrifting type of play. Then I totally see why a central market would only seem like a positive. But for those of us who do enjoy those mechanics, I realllyyy appreciate ESO not just being another copy cat simplified clone. And I think they should just keep adding more traders at a higher rate than they have. A middle-ground they could land on too, but I dont know if they ever will. IS they could make all the traders in a shared location, share a search pool. So if you go to Mournhold and search the main Hub trader, or maybe turn on an option to do so. It would access all the items listed on every trader within that towns proximity. Or maybe the whole zone.
@Shenvalleyboi7 ай бұрын
@@vendettaworm6185 True that. I'd rather ESO just use a universal market board or something. I have grown to hate the ridiculously obsolete guild trader system, and just don't bother using it anymore. It makes Guilds super toxic, or you have to basically devote a hefty amount of time you could spend gaming, farming crap to quick sell in order to make expensive dues, rather than playing the game for fun. I don't work over 40 hours a week just so I can play a game that makes me feel like I'm still on the clock. Both of these things have in the past caused me to quit playing ESO for months. So far I've had to quit five trade guilds, and three non trade guilds that wanted a guild trader all of a sudden, all because they became extremely toxic with guildmasters flaming the Message of the Day with passive aggressive, and some not so passive aggressive, vitriol because some people in the guild aren't managing to pay 100,000 gold a week for a good trader spot. Only the best guilds get the good spots, and every other guild gets crap in locations no one ever goes to, because they are too isolated, or inconvenient to go to. Trading should not be tied to guilds. Guilds can't even be fun anymore, because everyone wants a guild trader, can't afford a guild trader, and then gets toxic. And there's no consistency if you're not in one of the expensive major trading guilds, because you're guild trader just bounces around from convenient location, to inconvenient location, to no trader at all for a week, and now with your items vanishing in 14 days, it'll be even worse, because your guild could lose their trade location, or trader entirely for one to two weeks, due to lack of funding, and you're just going to be SOL. The Guild trader system is probably the only thing I truly hate about ESO, and it's never made sense. Pretty much every other Massive MMO has an actual trading system, that doesn't revolve around tying people into guilds, and unreliable trade options. They don't waste time with a mail system either. You trade, you get your item, and your gold, and done, none of this I bought something, and now I got to wait for it to show up in the mail after I hop a wayshrine to get the mail to load, then open the mail and hassle hassle, waste of time. Sorry. That got a little ranty.

If the majority of items are sold within a week how can the fraction of items that stay longer be such a burden for the server performance? 🤔
@Arttea8 ай бұрын
I'm not one of the devs ofc, but my understanding of that statement is that there isn't necessarily a tiny fraction of items that are sticking around on the guild traders for so long and that this small amount of items is what is nuking performance, but rather that out of ALL of the items that are listed, most of the ones that WILL ACTUALLY BE SOLD, tend to sell within a week. So there are still "a lot" of listings just chilling out there for items that are not going to sell; if that makes sense,

@@isidroramos1073 that’s true, but there are also *a lot* of listings for items that happen to be priced poorly (as in, they’re priced too high for what they’re really worth) as well as listings for items that just aren’t desired (search for all items and then adjust the “time” setting so that you are shown items that are expiring soon to see what I mean) and that’s probably what the devs are looking to sort out to alleviate strain.

It's telling, to me, what this tells us about the Devs for this game. Specifically, that they don't actually play, or at least don't play enough to fully engage with the systems they are modifying. As is commonly discussed, high value low volume items take a while to shift, but also? Smaller guilds also have less exposure and often take longer to sell the same items, even at lower mark downs. I'm in a couple of middle of the road reasonably well placed guilds, but my main social guild tends to have a trader in a more remote area. Items placed in that remote trader for 20% less than the same item in the more popular locations can take significantly longer to move. I've had stacks of gold mats sell on week three, before, in those remote traders, just as an example. I've had hundreds of thousands of gold from listings sitting in the 20-29 day range. Millions, over the time I've played this game.
@NighDarke8 ай бұрын
I'm in 5 trading guilds and I keep all my slots filled and I can tell you if something doesn't sell by 7 days it's not going to because others have listed it lower and I need to take it down and relist it. So this 14 day thing isn't that big of a deal. What bothers me about it is it's gonna cost the same to list so if they're gonna halve the time the listing will be up they need to halve the listing fee. As for people who take frequent breaks from the game or their jobs interfere, just pull your listings down and gather your mail before you have to go out of the game for a bit.

I never understood the trading system. Are there dozens (or hundreds) of different guild trade stores each with their own unique set of sales, or is there one server-wide market like any other MMO and these different guild traders are just hubs to get to the same market?
@Arttea8 ай бұрын
Have you seen those little market stalls around the world with NPCs that have "" above their heads? Those are known as guild traders, and they are purchased on a weekly basis (via a blind bidding system) by guilds so that players can access their guild's store. As you mentioned, there are hundreds of trading guilds with their own guild stores that are unique to their guild. We don't have a single place where we can access a server-wide market; instead, we have to go up to different guild traders to browse the wares listed by members of the guild who purchased the trader. So, for example, if I went to the Tamriel Trade Secrets guild trader in Alinor, I would only have access to the TTS guild store, which would be populated by items from TTS guildies. I would not have access to any other guild's store at that trader.

The only way I can see the AH changes reducing strain on the database, is for it to have a chilling effect on players' desire to list items. Otherwise, everyone would still be listing the same stuff, just twice as often. Personally it won't affect me much, but I feel bad for the long sale listings & the remote guild traders. The mail change, however... whoo boy, that will absolutely ease the strain. I know so many people who use their mailbox as a makeshift storage system. One of my guildmates didn't check their mail during the recent Mayhem event. They literally had *hundreds* of Rewards of the Worthy boxes clogging their inbox by the end. However, I think Guild Trader mail (both gold from sales and unsold items) should remain at 30 days.

Seeing Skinny's vid on scribbling and this one is pretty much one in the same where they are pushing on players to stay active in the game, i.e., making Papa Microsoft's investors' wallets bigger. They are just using the server performance as polish to make it look less obvious. You could also say it is a lot like other games that continue to add more content, which adds to the complexity of the game and this is the easiest thing to "fix". If they add another class/race and add more character slots, you'll know they were full of 💩on this "problem".
@seha5608 ай бұрын
They should just review all those reward-containers and the handling of those. They could all just be stacked and only on peeking into RNG is triggered and this specific container would than become "unique" and blocks one inventory slot on its own. Just think of all the collected mails for event-containers, daily rewards, transmutation geodes.... What I wondered as well on how they checked the selling time span in detail. Have effects of losing trader spots, high/low frequency location etc. been taken into account... I think the listing time they don't need to change as this is a database-consumption that is pretty much assessable by calculating max members per guild, available trader spots and potential changes of guilds for trader spots. That should give you a pretty accurate number on how large the listing item database could grow to.

This makes it hard to sell items, so I might just get out of trading all together. In situations like this, 30 days to list and 30 days to claim is entirely reasonable. What I've observed on PC EU is that material prices have gone down significantly. Sales overall are slow. I think what happened is: there are less new players around. Veteran players already have stockpiles of dreughwax and perfect roe and whatever else. And they're all used to selling those for income and to meet trading guild requirements. So there is a race to the bottom with prices falling across the board significantly. ALSO when they made selling crowns harder with the gifting restriction it's no longer easy for a new player to spent $10 and get their hands on millions of gold to spend on the guild traders. So there are less people buying a legendary deadly arm crops for 550K gold now. Basically the ESO PC EU market is now focused towards selling niche rare items to veteran players because new players either don't exist or have no gold to spend.

Zo$ is doubling down on their FOMO tactics to increase active player count. Even the Scribing system shows this with it's "randomly rotating" bullcrap and time-gated grind. You don't just go 10 years into a game's life and suddenly decide the database needs some trimming like this.
@PuddingZebra8 ай бұрын
To me it seems more like a cost-saving move rather than a "server improving" one. Maybe server improving as in they have to spend less server load on this so they can downscale the already struggling hamsters to 1. 1 hamster costs less than 2. With the added benefit of creating FOMO passively. win-win for the paycheck of the top brass :) Shame we as the players wont see anything at all from it, except downgrades :))))

fortnight in my eso timers
@Kottery8 ай бұрын
I have no skin in this game as I'm not too deep into ESO and thus never use the traders, but 30 days is A LOT of time and even 14 days is insane in my eyes. Coming from WoW 48 hours is what I'm used to and while in FFXIV listings never expire you need to be updating them at least every couple days anyway or else it's never getting sold.
@bobbygasser26818 ай бұрын
If its because the items don't sell then why change the time to claim items from the mail...
@Arttea8 ай бұрын
The proposed changes for the 14 day mail timers are not because of the rate at which items typically sell in guild stores; those are entirely different concepts. The devs are just changing **mail timers** for performance reasons, AND they are changing the **guild trader listing timers** for performance reasons as well, but not because there is any correlation between the two.

im actually really upset about the 14 days or lose the mail instead of going to your bank or something. I normally play for like a week then leave town for a month or so and collect gold when i get back. Im already on the fence about this up coming expansion from a pvp point of view so i may just take a long break until so gets their stuff together. Lot of good games coming out anyway atm
@nobodyhere46678 ай бұрын
vendor everything, got it :) - the performance lie was one that Bethesda/FO76 LOVED to use. This is a strategy to get players to not have long breaks from the game, I am sure some idiot thinks this will improve player involvement but it will just give people a reason to stop coming back. Glad i played before they changed it, $7.50 for the game and 3 months of play, not a bad exchange, time for a new game.
@wrayk8 ай бұрын
This will only work if the items returned after 2 weeks are not immediately re-listed.
@cracmar038 ай бұрын
I am more concerned when this will hit the servers. There is a mail for me on pc EU that never reached me. It contained 3.5 mil gold and about 168 tempering alloys, because mail is very buggy, the mail never reached me. It got stuck on unclaimable limbo and normally would be returned to sender after 30 days. Now if they put this new change .... it will get automatically deleted without any of us capable of claiming it.
@josiewoodrose76168 ай бұрын
I like the 14 days timers. But I am a nut about getting my mail. I agree that anyone who is gone from the game can run into trouble and at times being away is unavoidable. Removing items will work if you have advance warning but that is not always the case.
@Arttea8 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm a bit of a nut about retrieving my mail too lmao. The new expiration timers for sales and items won't be affecting me personally, as I am a fairly active player/trader who doesn't *usually* sell a lot of slow-moving items, but I've already heard from some of my friends that play and trade on a more casual basis (or who prefer to sell expensive items that don't sell very quickly) that this is gunna be a bit of a pain in the ass for them, unfortunately 😅

IMO, the main focus/goal of them making these changes are to further pull gold out from the players. Making players relist more often (pulling gold from the players) and having them login more frequently to collect their gold, else they lose it. They know what they're doing and "server performance" is just a cover. Again, just my opinion. Guild Wars 2 doesn't seem to have an issue having player list items on their AH for years and years without needing to auto remove it, else "bad for servers". I know, different game and all, but also...ANet is a smaller company and figured it out, sooooooo..... Overall, change only hurts the players and they're providing nothing to counter this change.
@lilithamberle64708 ай бұрын
I would even hazard a guess that GW2's AH database may be larger than ESO's as their AH system is accessible for the entire playerbase, unlike ESO's more restrictive/competitive (and frustrating) trader system
@cracmar038 ай бұрын
I disagree with your take, simply because mail system in pc EU and pc NA ESO has been severely underperforming. And issues kept piling as years went on. Ghost mails, 30 day limbo stuck mails, not loading content mails, lags a plenty so you need to teleport to force it out.

Just my luck: the only year I want to take a 3 weeks vacation instead of two and I will have to delete all my listings from the store otherwise I might loose them :( I can't see any positive sides to this at all, it feels like an additional task to keep track of, making the game more of an obligation than entertainment :(

Thanks for vid, Arttea. I stopped playing due to the massive console needed changes. It was terrible to have to spend tons of online time to be competitive in making gold for things i wanted. As a console player it was bad. When this update happens its going to be even worse in my opinion. If anyone else is a console player, im suggesting you stop playing and try a new game. :)

EverQuest 2 has the best auction feature. Or Broker as it's called. You put something up, set the price and leave it. It has no expiration date so even if you are away for months you will still be able to have it sold. I recently logged in to EQ2 in the first time in forever and saw that an item had sold for 550,000 platinum. My character had 90 000 plat last time I logged in before that...
@dangrimes62008 ай бұрын
Just oing some mental wandering here...but...i list 30 items for 30 days. Say half sells 1st week...list 15 more...ill still always have 30 items listed, sucking data. Doesnt matter if it is on a 14day or 30day rotation...and actually, faster turnover means system has to update with the new items more often. Seems like no gain, and maybe even a loss. For the mail, sure, i can see a benefit. Hurts me and my map hoard, but, def better for data

ZOS really out here taking away listing and expiration days from us to save money instead actually making their servers better without penalizing the consumer. It would have been nice if they would let us sell more wares per guild trader (60 instead of 30) to at least sell more in the shorter time frame, but i could see them down the road cutting that down from 30 to 20 wares per guild trader, just to save more money on making server performance "Better". For me this probably won't affect me much, but I'm just putting it out there that these changes seems like a cop out on actually making their servers better at the expense of the consumer.

My cynical take: No, the change to listing times won't affect the economy that much. Neither will it noticeably affect the servers. But it does serve nicely to take away focus and attention from the mail retention changes, which is just bad.

Major L on their part. I understand 14 days limit for selling, but 14 days to claim your items / gold? Some people go on vacation for awhile or things happen that could prevent claiming like a serious outage or computer / software breaking problem. The devs didn't take any of this into account it feels; I keep seeing the devs constantly making bad decisions and it's been killing my hopes for the game to thrive. Absolute L.

Arttea in my humble point of view: 1. I cannot handle those guild traders full of "zilions" Witch's jars, Jester's pendants and Summerset's marble stairways. Those things never ever get sale. Give away that stuff and other crap items. Don't sell crap. Nobody got rich on TESO selling rocks and ugly plants. 2. We all know some prices are high cuz those items have low drop but they are just 10% of whole TESO item pool. I check guildtraders every time i can, and BAD PRICING (overpriced is the rule in almost all them). No way you can sell a lame argonian or bretonish blueprint by 1M. 😂😂😂 3. Mail like bank? Ok it is an EMERGENCY OPTION, but do u need take those items out there as fast as u can or you will get the "help to clean my storage" rage situation. That moment when all your storage is 110% full and u start to give away everything just to get a little storage space. My rule is 75% fill -25% free. Specially dangerous are the surveys and maps. Don't pile them. If u don't like maps, give them to map runners. I know some people with 2500 or more survey to do "someday". 4. Cash flow is the rule. Gold call gold. Every guild trader slot must have a fast rotation. If u barely sell an item every two weeks, my dear YOU ARE SELLING WRONG STUFF. Read the market, check traders tendencies, follow Arttea and other merchants youtuber guides, be pragmatic and use your trader slots wisely. 5. Keep on eye IN YOUR SERVER. Some merchants youtubers are clear about what is their server. We all know PC prices are light years away from Console server prices. PS servers prices are high that XBOX servers prices. European server prices are high than NA server prices. My gosh if you are an EU PC server expat don't come to XBOX NA console server trying to sell average stuff by millions cuz u will get homeless in three days. Nobody will buy you stuff never. Good stuff for sale, good pricing, cash flow, high guild traders slot rotation, don't hoard crap stuff-maps-survey. The rules to keep your storage space and mail in good shape.
