Tesneem, I just had a surreal moment. My name is Lily and I am a school social worker. I was guest speaking about Islam in America for our middle schoolers in preparation for a school trip to the Diyanet center in Lanham and found your amazing channel. I am only now realizing that we were roommates at IIIT in 2015. I’m so happy to know you’re flourishing and will continue to use your wonderful videos for my class. Sending best wishes your way.

@@ALLAHwithdaughterALLAT First off in response of your other reply, I'm not a taqiyya. Second off that refers to a reward in Jannah. Also then why do it says in the Quran, that all believers, men and women will have a reward? Doesn't that indicate women will be there too?

I love the explanation by Dr Alkiek! 😎 Whenever I meet a woman wearing her Hijab, I almost immediately give her the recognition and dignity she deserves. My emotions are empathy, as I do NOT see it as a symbol of oppression but of faith and identity. My empathetic response is for the inane questions she has to answer, explaining why she covers up 🙄 I got into an argument with my ex-therapist whether or not the Hijab (barrier) is a symbol of oppression - this therapist, being a mental health professional ought to have known better! 😒 Salam Alekum - Ramadan Mubarak from Western Washington! 💗🙏

Let's break it down in a way that's easy to understand: _What is Hijab?_ Hijab is a Arabic word that means "barrier" or "veil." In Islamic context, it refers to the practice of covering oneself to maintain modesty and humility. _Why do Muslim Women Wear Hijab?_ Muslim women wear hijab as a sign of obedience to Allah's commandments and to demonstrate their commitment to living a modest and virtuous life. It's a personal choice and an act of worship (acting on every single command of their Creator). _What Does Hijab Consist of?_ Hijab consists of three components: 1. _Jilbab_: A loose-fitting garment that covers the entire body. 2. _Khimar_: A headscarf that covers the hair, neck, and shoulders. 3. _Niqab_: A face veil that covers the face. _Is Hijab Mandatory?_ In Islam, hijab is mandatory practice for Muslim women who have reached puberty. _Common Misconceptions_ - Hijab is not just a headscarf; it's a comprehensive practice of modesty. - Hijab is not oppressive; it's a personal choice and an act of obedience. - Hijab is not exclusive to women; men also have guidelines for modesty in Islam. _Conclusion_ Hijab is a practice that represents modesty, humility, and obedience to commands of Allah.

My friend is muslim and whenever we discussed our religious beliefs. Many concepts are similar and we could relate. Shes a lebanese muslim. She doesnt wear a hijab but her mother does. I appreciate the hijab the way i would want other faiths to appreciate garments. We dont show our faith outwardly besides simple modest clothing. Thank you for sharing your beliefs. I feel like Westernerners (SoCal in specific) could really take note of the benefits the hijab entails. Nowadays modern men and women in the western dating market (in SoCal at least) complain on social media on how shallow the opposite sex is for viewing them only for their appearances or superficial values, whilst putting on full display their bodily aesthetic (face and figure) to attract other aesthetically pleasing mates. It's really ironic and I think the implementation of veils, not nescerily hijab, to cover their faces and cloth in a way that is more modest, would have immense values to the bonding and mindset the men and women would create. Though I think clothing wise, one can be more creative in styling their veils and clothing to show creative prowess and personality to attract potential mates. I think covering up your biological gifts and letting your personality, creativity, passion, and intelligence to attract friends and potential partners is a MUCH more strategically advantageous culture to have. Imagine wearing clothes that you fully design, each segment shows a philosophy, mindset, history, achievement, you've had. Be it a simplistic modest clothing, a harmonious mixture of colors, symbols indicating something important to you, to a complex and intricate design flexing your artistic skills. When people see it, they will automatically have a summarized spark note display to judge your character on based on the way you decide to design your attire and not your facial beauty or figure. Though this will definitely still have segregration and premature judgment issues, just in a different format than biological and physical signifiers. However, at least this method will give those who are born without the advantage of beauty to earn the perception and judgement of others in a much more level playing field. I think this will really help not only people who are perceived as ugly and undersirable but to the ones who are seen as beaiful dieties as well. It will weed out the superficial connections made based on physical appearances which will in turn give the undesirable a chance to build a connection that wouldn't be possible if he/she hadn't put on the veil, and the desirable to truly find a partner who isn't only looking for looks. This of course is predicated on the idea that TRUE LOVE does not care for appearances, which is a mindset everyone strives for but seldom practice. I believe this would be healthy for a society, in the short term it might feel like a hard lesson that is annoying and unfair for the biologically gifted, but in the long term I think everyone would benefit from it tremendously. I'll end this comment with a variated quote: You don't have to be muslim to practice beneficial muslim values. Values are values, and "great values can come from any religion or culture". - A variation to the Ratatoulie quote

Thank you Dr. Tesneem, Mashallah for the wonderful reminder and lesson. May Allah reward you and your family for benefiting the Muslim Ummah. I wonder if I respectfully can ask to be our guest speaker to speak for a half an hour or so to our Muslim community members mostly mothers this coming Sunday on Zoom? We are a group of sisters, from Toronto, Canada who organize a biweekly zoom session for our Muslim Audience between 30 to 40 individuals talk about any beneficent topic. It is an informal gathering where people participate and ask questions. I have been listening to your series on you-tube for a while and Mash-Allah there is a lot we can learn from you. Insha-Allah, let me if this is possible. Jazkallah sister.

Could somebody answer this for me- why has Allah commanded Muslim women to wear the headscarf? Is it to cover ourselves in front of men, or for us to be seen and differentiated as Muslims, or something else?

This is so inspiring! Muslims need to raise their daughters with this mentality rather than the "wear Hijab or you'll go to hell" mindset.

Agreed. Thanks for the information. Can you please give a link to the cited Gallup census of 2008 among the 50.000 women. I find that very helpful for discussion in the ongoing to heated debates, we do also have here in Germany. Thanks in advance. Hamza

As a woman I want a society educated in respect, if I show my body nobody should sexualised it without my permission and agreement. We should focus on in fighting the sick minds of those who sexualise without boundaries: like sexualising any woman for the way she choose to dress, children if they are not under surveillance, or even men if they look attractive…Educating, educating, educating and not hiding…
