What an excellent video. I burned up a TracLoc and replaced it with a TruTrac last year. All I know is that it's stronger and works all the time for me. Just in a fun street car. You obviously know what you're talking about, AND you know how to explain it well. Really enjoyed this video. Thanks! New subscriber, too.

At about 7 mins in you're talking about the rare pegleg operation of this unit. It is an open diff until it is "switched on" in the manner you describe: Abrupt throttle, brake torque, or in the case of the "E-Limited Slip" that uses the vehicle's ABS hardware and software to feed a little brake to the one wheel that is spinning will "switch" these units engaged. And when these units are engaged, it's almost a locker. These things are in a class of their own. They are awesome, considering (the lack of wear, the no need to service, etc). Looking for a Ford-familiar installer out here in southern California to put one in a 13th Gen F150 8.8 Super. Cheers!

Installed one in my 87 Grand National, it's been great so far however the gear slop is a bit of an issue

So did I on my GN, I went with Eaton & Richmond Gears mine went Great! (G-tech) 1.86 60fts. on Black top no burnouts. Have-not went to the track yet. I'm impressed.

Great video, although i went for the wave trac diff as it doesn't go into an open diff like a true trac can.

5:49 ... In this case (if one wheel is completely off the ground) And assume you are traveling slowly ... You can just lightly apply the brakes (or hand break if it's back wheel), and that will freeze "the off the ground wheel" and put all the traction to the wheel that's ON the ground.

Eaton also recommends conventional 80W90 for most types of driving.

about the noise, anti friction additives could be added to the diff oil like EZI Extra Power to eliminate 70% of wear & noise

I bought the trutrac for my 8.8 31 spline . And keep it for 6 months to collect other parts. After opening it i noticed it's missing the axle spacer. If u have it it would help me im sttick and disappointed 😞

That is a bummer, I'll see if I have any extras but i doubt i kept them around

Thanks for the video... When you mention that the Trutrac noise.... I have a manual 5sp coupled with a Trutrac in a Dana44 housing in a 84 TransAm. If have the clutch fully engaged at low rpm and I throttle on&off quickly I get a hard clunk, clunk noise in the car. I replaced the axle shaft bearings which did have .015+ endplay, new driveshaft ujoints & balance and still suffer from the listed noise. I have determined that it is the rotational endplay of the Trutrac and the the internals of the trans. Does this sound correct and is this the noise that you were stating is inherent of the the trutrac? The car launches nicely and i use it for street and autocross with no complaints except the listed sounds. Thanks in advance! MikeJ

Mine does't clunk. I've had squeals at VERY hard lock ups (one tire on pavement and one in snow), but I may have a bad journal in my rear end. I wouldn't be surprised if those pinion gears can squeal under the correct load. I'm assuming it's not an issue because I have over 50k miles on it by now. Check your torque arm bushings, axle wrap likely would cause clunks. I'm assuming that's not your issue if you autocross, you would have already done all your bushings.

@@nicholassmerk thanks for reply. Curious if your car is a manual or automatic? I don't think the noise I hear is axle wrap as it is not under any load and at such low speeds. Just idling with full clutch engagement, then quick on&off throttle which rocks the car abruptly to make the clunking noise I have. The rear bushings are all the Spohn delrin spherical joints in lower control arms, panhard bar & adlustable torque arm. I have determined that it is the slop in the trans & TruTrac driveline endplay that are creating the noise. It is not something that happens out on the road or track while driven normally.
