Absolutely love mine, they've removed my doubt before sending a mix out, clients are always happy. Once I reach the point where the vocals have this ' color ' that matches the instruments and the kick/bass are just about to clip it's ready to me, translates great on lower end headphones. Tend to mix for tone rather then getting lost in the technical side.

You're part of the reason I got some, and I gotta say, I actually just love them. I like their sound, and I'm sure they will sound much better paired with a subwoofer. That's true about the bass boost from sitting them on your desk. I read somewhere that they were meant to be bookshelf speakers, and when this group tested their frequency response, they found that it flattened out when put on the big wooden meter bridge of an old school mixing console

I'd like to come back to this comment and say, Oh my God, do they sound amazing paired with subwoofers! I have a pair of NS-10s with a left and right sub in between them, and I can't be happier with my setup. These will let me hear the midrange perfectly and the subs will let me hear what's going on in the low bass with modern music. Thanks for the info on these

The problem I made on them when I first got them was trying to make things sound good. I realized the point was to let them reveal and sound realistic even if that meant harsh. It was always based on the type of music but they work on every genre really well. You just have to tune your ears first by referencing similar sounding music. All monitors work this way with your brain. The sonic imprint is what goes into memory so if you listen to a reference really well, you will get better and achieving the sound no matter what monitors.

I´ve got some 25 year old Yamaha MSP5s that I have replaced with Adam A7Xs. I plan to still use them as reference monitors. Is it an idea to turn down the bass on them to make them a act more like NS-10s?

I can consistently make mixes and masters that translate from my ns-10mX speakers to just about any stereo. I have been using them for 25 years though, so perhaps I could learned any speaker in that time period. I'm used to them and I like them. I have a sub I click in occasionally to check for low end anomalies.

Don’t know anything about studio work but love studio monitors. I have ns-10m studio, urei 809a, jbl 4410 and klipsch heresy in my basement (poor man listening room). Love them all but these past few weeks the ns-10 got more time, just love them with a small sub. So many reviews said they are bad speakers, I guess I’m just weird.

Back in the day we used to hate when the mix engineer was trying to mix on the ns10s we used to love when we would go to a studio that had Urie 809 or JBL 4312 the ns10s made us moan and groan and complain haha LOL

U know why... Old skool quality.. Gutted coz mine got robbed and not replaced.. I love paper cone sensitive asa toothache moreso.. Plus gota old skool brittish built vintage valve amp block, so these speakers are the natural partner, coz they tell the truth.. And I miss that in music.... Fat genuine Analogue sound quality like a pedantic audiophile. Only coz it the Truth.. These speakers tell the truth twice!!!

Ath-m50, Ath-m40x and MDR-7506 headphones. I'm good. I have already learned them. Also CLA NX studio emulation which includes ns10's plus sub, mains and a boom box from Chris Lord Alge.

The real story of NS10s were their original use as a reference speaker to hear and adjust a mix done on the state of the art Bose speakers. In those days most home stereos had book shelf speakers at the very least. You had your clock radio mono speaker and NS10s for how the mix would sound on a consumer speaker. Someone saw the NS10s being used for this purpose and thought they were used for mixing on and the rumors spread where Project Studios could have something used in a big studio. They were used to check a mix on, not do the whole ruddy thing on. LOL. Nowadays you need a phone speaker for mono and earbuds to check a mix on. What would you think if Studios were mixing on a car sound system because someone checked a mix on one in the car? What if it was setup in the studio?

Check out Yamaha NS 615. And Yamaha NS 635. They are much cheaper and the sound is the same. Basically mid range speakers. I ve checked all of them including NS 10M studio. You can barely tell the difference. 615s have the same size of cabinet and have the same speakers. 635s have bigger cabinet and the woofer is slightly bigger, but the difference is very very subtle. A little more mid lows , that's all.

@@icysasakimusic I use vanne damme cable for most and neutrik connectors because they are reliable. The only time a cable sounds different is if its faulty with a loose connection or interference etc. Still don't buy the cheapest, but get a reliable cable, no need for crazy prices. I will say though the speakers themselves, and the placement make a MASSIVE difference to the sound, way more than the converters or the cables ever could.
