Real Stories

6 жыл бұрын

A mixture of engaging stories with accessible popular science about the human body, this revealing insight into some of the world’s smallest people, including primordial dwarf He Ping Ping, the world’s shortest man who weighs the same as an average one year old, and Britain's shortest man Michael Henbury, whose young son towers above him. Explaining what effect their height has on their health and what challenges these extraordinary people face when it comes to finding work, love and happiness, the programme candidly reveals what life is like from their unique perspective, and their attempts to find happiness and acceptance in a world that often treats them as freaks.

OMG, I was so happy to see Michael find love and a happy family! He has a amazing relationship with his son, who loves and adores his father. He and everyone like him deserves great happiness and love like everyone! Good people deserve each other. I believe that people with the happiest lives and relationships focus most on the heart of a person and not aesthetics. Beauty fades, but the beauty of a person's heart is forever.

Linda, I was thinking the same. Tanya’s husband and Michael’s wife (and his mom and son) are so supportive and have given them “Normal” lives. Many ppl born with disabilities don’t think they can have that. It is very difficult to see ones spouse suffer numerous surgeries and pain due to their medical conditions. It take a very strong person with deep love and integrity. Tanya even said she didn’t think she deserved him, and that he was very patient. That is a common feeling expressed from people that have to ask for a lot of assistance from their families. They feel like they are a lot of trouble. But Michael’s wife and son and his mom, and Tanya’s husband, have what it takes to give unselfishly. I agree, may God bless them all.

Years ago I managed a kiosk in the middle of our local mall. I'm 4'6" and more times than I can count, a mom would be walking by with her child and the child would be saying, "Mommy, Mommy! Look at the little lady!" And the mom is dying, telling the child to be quiet. I would quietly die of laughter. I love kids for their honesty and I wish I had had the opportunity to talk to those kids.

I have a condition that causes me to use a wheelchair. I have a few injuries every day so I'm in a constant state of injury. Mostly I get dislocations. I can usually walk a little but it's painful and agitates my injuries which Is why I need my chair to get around. I was on a bus once when a little girl pointed me out to her Mum. The Mum kept trying to keep her quiet but the girl kept asking her questions. The Mum looked mortified. I told the little girl why I use a wheelchair and her family joined in the conversation. Just before I got off of the bus, I told the Mum that curiosity is fine. As I'm heading out of the door, she said something that made me respond with 'well I can actually walk anyway'. The entire family's faces went into shock. The doors closed and I just had to leave it at that :')

Donna knight Some people have tough skin and understand kids don't think like adults do. But others dont. I always feel bad for people when kids point out their defects loudly to a point where everyone heard it. Just the sheer awkwardness and discomfort they feel in that moment could effect them mentally

In middle school there was a girl who was a little person, she was 1 year older than her classmates, she used to hang out with the cool kids and prettiest girls in school and she always had a cool boyfriend. I was taller than all the other girls in my class because I grew really fast, I was super selfconscious and I couldn't get a single date...so I really looked up to her ;-)

He was really strong, he had all kinds of state weightlifting records because he was small and lightweight, but really muscular so he could lift these crazy amounts. He played football, too, he would play if we were far ahead, everyone would cheer like crazy when he ran out.

Excellent documentary. I was particularly interested in this as a young child & teenager I was living with my aunt & uncle with my little sister. Across from their home was a married couple who were small people. They had their entire interior of their home built & designed for their stature. It was fantastic & so utilitary and attractive at the same time. They were so fortunate to own & enjoy their home.

I think they're amazing people. I am only 4 ft 11.5 inches tall and always will be. I have an anger inside me towards everyone and the struggle of being picked on, bullied my whole life, and even r*ped because of my size. Once I was called a "pocket p*ssy" and then "easy to r*pe." There are horrible bullies out there. I have more rage about my body than you know. It makes a person hate themself and hide from the world, hate people. I have become strong because I had to. I have an idea of what it's like being so short, because I always need a step ladder, I have to sit on my lawn mower a certain way to get it to go, and being laughed at because of those too... et cetera. I definitely have respect for these people. They are human beings and deserve their dignity.
