Altough I think some of the topics on your videos are considered as taboo in the reptile hobby or pet keeping in general. I do appreciate all of these informations coming from your first hand experiences, it helps alot! Sometimes when I bred my geckos I got some geckos that were born with some oddities, here the community in indonesia usually call it as "genetik jenuh" (sorry Idk what it is in english percisely, but you got the idea ;) ). This indicate that I need to stop inbreeding these guys and pair them with other healthy geckos from a different family line. The saddest thing is that here the trend of people buying geckos to breed them someday and not just as a pet. You see people don't know much about inbreeding and its downside and the sellers also don't give much information about it, especially during this time when Black Night is super popular and people are inbreeding them like crazy for quick bucks (I know this sound crazy, but thats what actually happening. Thanks for sharing so many details, I love hearing from other communities around the world. I would say it is the same in the states too, lots of people just trying to make money, but there are a lot of breeders that have outcrossing projects as well to make the BN morph less in bred. Have you seen the dwarfed animals having shorter life spans? I think I have experienced this with my 2 bearded dragons. They never grew more than about half size and one just passed away. She was doing better over winter than her brother so I don't think it was a winter condition issue. Great video! I really enjoy your transparency and that you talk about things some may not be comfortable sharing. I learn so much from you!

TY Liz! So yes, Bearded Dragons and Leopard GEckos are similar in the sense that there is limited fresh blood lines due to a ban on further exportation of the species from the wild. This leads to more inbreeding amongst hobbyiest today. I can only imagine what things will look like 200 years from now, but some call me crazy for thinking that far ahead lol. Anywho, this is only my 3rd year breeding on mass scale like this and seeing results like I showed in this video, all stunted geckos are thriving and fine, the one i shoed earilier in this video, maybe, looks like it may have a shorter life span, it's just seeming like its getting weaker as time goes on, its now almost 2.5 years old. So I will have to update everyone as time goes on, but like you said I do like to share all aspects of what we do so I would plan to make another video on that info when I know. thanks for being interested and I appreciate your kind remarks! :D :D

I know this is an odd question but what is the normal amount of animals used to start a linebreeding project from scratch? Assuming the line has never existed or animals are as close to not related as possible. Since many breeders in the business have their own linebred signature geckos this info exists, just not available.

I think that weak offshoots of linebred are actually have more of the trait in question at birth and then the trait is expressed even further when it grows up. From the genes for pigment being activated and from more ,genes, sources being active. The logic follows in other lines. Being babies alter completely to their adult coloring naturally. The correlation to deformities could be from a lower chromosome count and as such existing chromosomes are responsible for more functions than we currently understand.

The way I've looked at breeding is no matter the result or method used you are breeding towards something. Simply by your own choice in pairings.

@@GeekyGeckoCreations Thank you too. I subscribed to your channel once I discovered it. I had two Leos that i decided to breed. Both unrelated. Originally I intended to sell the babies but COVID happened and I became to attached to part with them. Two Of the offspring have nice patterns and colours, a boy and a girl. I have been considering breeding them to see if I can produce even better colouration. I know that genetically it is not good to do this for a species but I guessed it must have been done to be able to produce existing morphs. I was amazed at the variation of colour and pattern my 1st gen of offspring produced. The first baby to hatch looks black and white his background colour is so pale. Only a single egg was laid. Mum is a wild type and Dad is a paler version his background colour is a very light yellow. I bred again from the same two parents and the 2nd years offspring are heavily high yellow and one is very orange with very few bands of tiny spots. She is very lovely, In both sets of offspring I have some large build and some small. It is fascinating.

So if one has a deformity like shark mouth and you outcross it and breed it. The babies will not recieve the deformity???

I’m new to breeding and have one male and two females. If I end up breeding cousins and then from that breeding tie it back to one of the original females, do I have enough distance in the lineage to avoid any negative results?

Taht should be ok, here's the problem, you might have geckos that are distantly or closely related already and not even know it, especially if they share similar DNA traits like snow, Tangerine, etc....But chances are they are probally not closely related, unless you got them from the same breeder, so in that case you should be fine. If you see issues like this pop up, then you'll want to out cross more.

@@GeekyGeckoCreations sorry, I have another question. How soon will a female’s body start changing when pregnant? I have noticed that within two or three days one of my females’ belly is fattening up and she is being skiddish except when I put food right in front of her face. Besides that she is keeping her distance from the male when before she wouldn’t hesitate to sleep near him and also I find her sleeping in in awkward positions like she can’t get comfortable. I’m thinking I have a pregnant female but I didn’t want to jump the gun on any assumptions.

I have a pet only that is also a tangerine, she is a very little and a bit skinny and has a big kink in her spine. She is healthy otherwise and has no problems with climbing or hunting. Now that you mention that it could be a Problem with the gene maybe and not a coincidence.
