What is MIB2 FEC - SWaP code

Short explanation what is #SWaP and #FEC, why it was introduced, how it works, how to install SWaP codes, and if there are alternative methods of getting FECs in your MIB2 headunit outside the dealership.
SWaP is short for SoftWare as a Product. This is a strategy to sell and protect optional features and functionality for Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, and Porsche infotainment units as if it was an actual material product. Most likely it's cheaper to manufacture an infotainment headunit that is equipped with hardware supporting all features and the lock out these that were not play for, than to have separate hardware configurations designed for each variant of optional equipment. This method gives also chance to cross sell additional features later on.
Here's where the FEC comes in. It's short for Function Enabling Code, and this is exactly what it does. After buying such code for feature that you are interested in having, dealer is installing it in your cars infotainment headunit and from now on desired feature is available for you.
When it comes to MIB2, there are ways to hack it and inject FECs to the headunit to makes such features up and running. This require accessing infotainment internal memory (over the SD card port or with SSH by wiring to the quadlock connector in the back of headunit), pulling original FEC container (FecContainer.fec), preparing special new files that contains SWaP codes for features that you want, replacing original file, also patching MIBRoot image.
Sometimes hacking the MIB2 headunit is the only option. For example to get Android Auto functionality in Porsche with PCM4.0 infotainment, as this features is not offered to customers but the #MIB2 headunit supports it anyway. Another example is enabling the Performance Monitor with boost pressure gauge in Golf MK7. There's no part number that you can order or no amount of money that you can spend at your dealership to enable this feature legally.
MIB2 based headunits are installed in Audi, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen, and Porsche cars.

Thank you very much for your reply , the vw dealer mechanic said if I got a Uk head unit & screen & the antenna which is coded as well as mine has mw & no dab on the Austrailean model , he said it may work , but not sure if they would be a conflict with other module in the car sold for the Southern Hemisphere. Some units with old firmware require to enable developer options first. You need to do it with diagnostic tool like OBDeleven or VCDS.

AFAIK new headunit will not solve your problem. Navigation region is one of the FEC protected features. When they install new headunit, they will have to upload FEC file that was created for your car with codes that were paid for when first buying the car. Navigation region will also be there and it will be the same region as before. What I think that you should do is one of the folowing: A. Use App-Connect (or buy activation code to enable it first) to use your phones navigation system over CarPlay/AndroidAuto on cars display. B. Find someone that can convert your cars region. Those guys will hack the headunit, patch the system, and upload custom FEC file that will allow installing maps from other regions. While you're there they can also enable App-Connect by the same method.

Not exactly. There are 3 ways to activate such features: 1. Pay the dealer 2. Pay the hacker 3. Find someone with exactly the same main unit, and the same software version that was already hacked (NOT activated by dealer). Use MIB2-Toolbox to dump MIBRoot and .fec files from the donor and rewrite your files with it.

I saw your directions for doing this which appear to be for the iOS version of obdeleven which follows perfect for android except for the very end where you have “write it” on Android I got to the part of release the swap code but when I start basic settings of release swap code I'm not sure what to do after that.
