I love your videos. I have a narrow and arched palate and I’ve also ground my teeth my entire life, and one side of my jaw pops and clicks and sometimes gets stuck. I also had my deviated septum fixed a couple years ago. Now I can breathe and corrected my tongue posture, but have since noticed my jaw and teeth shifting, to the point where I’m going to need braces (again). It’s wild to think/know this is all related. It’s exhausting trying to address it all in the correct order! Thank you for outlining the steps at the end!

New to this whole Myofuntional Therapy world. My 7 yo was just diagnosed with a posterior tongue tie and we had our first Appointment last week. Just be glad we live in a time with more awareness of these problems. When I was growing up, there was almost none among dentists. And when you catch these problems early in a child, they are relatively easy to fix. It's much harder when people get older and bones, joints, and habits tend to harden.

Wonderful video again Priya!! Thank you! It would be great if you could do a video on palate expansion, which sometimes is also needed to comfortably place the tongue on palate, and as you mention, the palate is the floor of the nose, so by expanding it, nose breathing will become better also. I received the microtens unit just yesterday by the way 😊 I will read the instructions well and give it a try this week. thank you so much!

Hi Dr. Mistry, you should know about the work of Clayton Chan and Gneuromuscular Dentistry. Thank you for this video, I wasn't aware of Myofunctional Therapy and just by shifting my tongue into the position you spoke of, I all of a sudden can breathe really well out of my nose as long as I keep the tongue there. I have teeth crowding, not as bad as you showed in the video but it led to bruxism then after several decades led to TMD. I have an orthotic and am in the process of gneuromuscular orthodontics then will need several crowns to get a gneuromuscular occlusion to take the stress off my neck and shoulders and even back. Without the crowns I don't have a way of getting a proper occlusion outside of the orthodic which I do not want to wear long-term. Thank you for helping me with this video, God Bless you.

Your videos have helped more than the crazy $ I've spent on dentists and specialists over the years. However I went to this video from your 2 parter on the tongue, because I'm scared that just putting my tongue on the roof will cause more pain. There wasn't any guidance on that, just to see an ENS and a therapist. (no benefits so thats not happening anytime soon) So still scared to start forcing my tongue to the roof... but still super grateful for your vids. I feel like the 6 and 6 is helpful thus far. ❤❤

I feel like im the captain of my TMJ ship trying to set up all of these appointments and confused about order, frequency etc (PT, CST, OMM) Its hard to manage but even harder to trust a "TMJ specialist" and getting lead down the wrong path. I have new onset majorly painful muscular TMJ sxs that started after extraction and implants for me 2 months ago. I feel best in the morning (I don't think I clench at night but do open mouth breathe) and terrible after talking and chewing. My dentist isn't sure which appliance would help in the scenario. I have TMJ, but unless I have a cold and so blocked nose, which is rare, i have always sealed my lips, breathed through my nose and suctioned my tongue on the roof of my mouth, i also don't thrust my tongue forward when I swallow. These things just felt comfortable and came naturally to me, however, as I say, I STILL have TMJ, narrow palate, crowding, I suspect lip and tongue ties too 😢 but who can afford myofunctional therapy, palate expansion and braces???

Is there a video on which you address this? My doctor said treating this would be very expensive. I didn't pursue that issue. Are there exercises? Is it ultimately going to be more expensive? Hi Doc, I was basically doing some myofunctional therapy exercises for one week that involved tongue stretching. I’ve already had tmj for 2 years. Basically just ear fullness and ear pain but now I’ve been experiencing fascial spasms for the past week. Mostly spasms and tingling from my jaw all the way to my cheeks. Is it possible that my jaw has been overworked due to the exercises? Will it recover on its own with time?
@theTMJdoc
@theTMJdoc Жыл бұрын
Hi there! If you have TMD, myofunctional therapy can actually make this worse. When this happens, I recommend pausing MFT and seeking TMD care.

Hi Dr Priya. Can I ask since using a flat plain splint at night my symptoms have become so bad I can't function from severe Dizziness, brain fog,vision and hearing issues and pain jaw and neck. What is the best splint to ask for from a dentist as here in Australia very hard to find dentist who knows how to treat TMJ. I have been in neurological ward hospital because no one knows how to treat my debilitating symptoms. Should I stop wearing my flat plain splint all together.
@theTMJdoc
@theTMJdoc 3 жыл бұрын
If the flat plane splint is not making you feel better, it may be best to stop wearing it, but definitely consult with your dentist before doing so. My video "How to Take an Aqualizer Bite - Updated" is a good guide for dentists on how to make an orthotic that will likely help relieve symptoms. Best of luck to you!

Not to mention how much my face has changed, sloped forward and sideways etc... If you see this and I hope you do because I love your videos and really trust your views and opinions and respect your practice and advice...
