The problematic part is that these people, like my father don’t want to seek help, they see nothing wrong and would get overly angry if it would be brought up to seek help
@wilson2933

That's just the problem with their condition though, It's because Narcs feel as if they are in their prime and their disorder allows them to not want to seek help, but that doesn't go for everyone. I'm getting help now for my NPD and you can be symptom free just like someone with BPD or any other PD. But I do agree with you though!

100% it's so annoying seeing spaces for npd people flooded by abelist assholes who think they know everything about what it's like to live with this disorder. I have npd and I'm not ashamed of it anymore. I live with my partner of seven years and we're both only 21 and unbelievably happy. She never had that stigma because she never knew it was a thing and has been working with me to help me better myself everyday and I'm so grateful for the progress I've made with her. Npd isn't an unforgivable, unrecoverable disease that defines bad abusive people. Its a disorder. Just like every other disorder. All it takes is a little compassion. The slander is so frustrating!!!!

My daughter, who is battling cancer, has narcissistic behaviours that are so much worse as she faces her own mortality. When we should be connecting more at this time, its almost impossible.I hang in, as her mother, but its taking a toll on me. I just want to hold her but everyday theres some drama, and I am so triggered, I cant be around her. I am heart broken, yet aware she is in constant acute pain without adequate pain relief, terrified, afraid for her teenage son, and her brother who is watching his closest and only friend suffer. I have no idea how to deal with this, no support,no services just day after day of her pain, paranoia, anger, resentment, need. All I can do is pray, and who knows if that works, but I have nothing else to turn to. My daughter has had a hard life, and sadly, it looks like it will be a hard death.

I'm very sorry. It sounds like you are in a situation that would be very hard for anyone to deal with. I'm not equipped to give any proper advice, and it does sound like you need it considering the desperation in your tone and seriousness of your situation. I think the first thing you should do is seek professional help with a psychologist to get proper support and advice. I also want to say that you need to remember to take care of both yourself and the other children. Perhaps they could stay with a grandparent for a while, so that they don't get traumatized by your daughters pain and behavior more than necessary, while you stay at home and care for her? You should also make it a priority to do things that are good for your mental health and that gives you a short break from the situation every now and then, eg. taking walks and visiting friends and family. You also need to set boundaries with your daughter. What she is going through must be terribly hard, but that doesn't give her the right to treat others that care for her badly. Even if you want to support her as much as you can, you need boundaries, because you will be able to do more for her if you don't get exhausted by her behavior. Please seek help, anyone would need it in your situation and you have no idea how big of an impact it can have just to have a few sessions with a professional. Good luck

A narcissist is a man or woman who has been disturbed or hurt to the core of there heart. They internalize their emotions to their own detriment. They are unaware of or are unwilling to accept or seek assistances or help because emotion brings them great pain. They are human beings just as you and I. Pray for their healing, and that they stop attempting to only self “assist” (a derivative of narcissist) themselves. Its an innate overprotection trait they have.

Narcissists are not only obsessed with their appearance, but they also have a tendency of trying to be the best at everything they do. They derive their self worth from the belief that they are superior to their peers, regardless of the fact. Extreme narcissists often look down on respectable people and become resentful or agressive if someone outperforms them. They are also excessively sensitive to the people around them; they care too much about how others perceive them. Unfortunatley, all these behaviors result from efforts to bolster their low sense of self esteem.

I understand you although my story is a little different from yours . My mother is like your wife. She always think that she's right and i'm wrong, always complain about her problems but never hear mine. She easily get angry about everything: my dad, me, our family, her coworkers,... ext. I have tried my best to not make any mistakes and to study the best i could but nothing could pleasure her enough. She always pick up on my tiny little mistakes then yells at me. She also makes me study from day to night even on Saturday and sunday, sometimes she made me studied for 3 hours straight. Just like u i walk on eggshell around her when i talk about the problem but nothing works and we even get in big fights. I have sought my uncles, aunts, dad,... helps but no one really understand me and their helps make the situation worse. I have also sought psychologist help but there are rare professional in Vietnam since psychology is a very new job in here. That means i haven't had someone who really know how to help and i had to fix the problem by myself

I do get that they may negatively impact others, but they’re still people Edit: I should have phrased my comment more sympathetically to those suffering from a narcissist and more specifically to narcissists who do seek help. There are several factors that can contribute to some people behaving this way, and it is important to avoid general judgments and prejudices. Some possible reasons could be: 1. Lack of empathy: A person may have difficulty understanding and perceiving other people's feelings and thoughts, which may lead to them not taking these factors into account in their actions. 2. Superiority and control: Some people may feel that they have the right to rule over others and that their own worth and authority means that they make others follow their will. 3. Learned behavior: In certain contexts, such as in certain cultures or families, it may be common for some individuals to have more power or control than others. This can easily lead some people to believe that it is normal to coerce or coerce others. 4. Vulnerability and lack of self-confidence: Sometimes people who feel vulnerable or insecure about themselves may try to get over themselves by controlling and coercing others. A health and courtesy produces people who respect each other's rights and feelings and who are open to communication and cooperation. This means encouraging empathy, self-reflection and self-confidence, as well as teaching value and respect for other people's free and personal choices.

First go to a professional who can diagnose you correctly. Freud, the father of psychoanalysis once said that every human being has a certain degree of narcissism but that alone doesn't necessarily make you a narcissist, there are other things to take into consideration, such as a lack of empathy for others, conditional affection and also this pathology tends to start in early adulthood!

Talk therapy (or psychotheraphy) is definitely the most helpful for them, but the fact is, that most of them don't want it. They want to keep torturing people or individuals they chose to torture, because the main characteristic of NPD is covert and overt parasitism on the "chosen ones".

Wrong. Nothing about overt or covert parasitism is in the DSM-5 so quit spewing false information. You’re implying they’re aware of their behavior & choose to act that way which is not the case. A narcissist doesn’t see their behavior as problematic or know they’re hurting people. They genuinely believe the shit they do or say is the gospel. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be narcissistic if they had the ability to self reflect and change their behavior. That’s sociopathy.

Idk if I have it, for me it's difficult to explain. Anytime I see someone online bragging about themselves and people who I think seem narcissistic, I feel the urge to just shut them up and humble them because they aren't as perfect as they say they are. I am nice, respectful, and friendly with everyone until someone starts bragging about how great they are, so maybe it rubbed off a little on me or I just have to manage my anger somehow, idk I'm confused and frustrated about it. People that call everyone a narcissist have an issue. Those that choose to throw this disorder around as if its some catch all for being treated poorly. In addition, should someone actually suffer from this, don't take it personal. De-weaponize them by showing compassion and empathy. Perhaps the "narcissist" in your life needs a true friend, despite their ability to be one themselves. Regardless, choosing to diagnose someone with this disorder is a dangerous game. Unless of course you are a professional in a professional setting.

This amaze me that someone took personality from many people and branded it narcissistic. I see and witness these behavior and numerous people , so this definition is branding it as a personality disorder. I don't understand how people take the time to judge someone instead, if they personality don't agree with you get another friend who is just like you. I hear people branding some of our billionaires and most successful people to have NPD, but do you think they care, they set a certain standard and a believe and know they will succeed. Now that this NPD have a internet (you tube) platform I hear people using this word Narcissist more often just because they looked at a you tube video, but they don't understand that it takes a professional to diagnose this disorder. my point is if someone have maybe 1 or 2 of these indicators or behaviors they should not be tagged with a disorder, don't be judgmental look deeper to know the person before branding them, make sure this is something that common practice for this person.

That is so true. Forgive me if I misundertand your message I'm very drunk. But yeah!! Npd is a disorder! A narcissist is someone with a disorder, not just someone who is kinda full of themselves and it hurt you. People are so quick to armchair diagnose people to explain this bad behavior and then just further demonize people who actually have to live with this disorder. Whether or not it negatively effects you, a person with npd is still dealing with an entire brain and worldview that segregates them from humanity. That's not easy. That's a very hard life to live, especially when you're getting called all these names from every side when you're just doing what you know. No one is willing to step into your bubble to explain to you why people see you as being so cruel. To explain why your world view is so demonized. When I was diagnosed with npd, I was blessed with having an understanding and compassionate and smart gf that was ready to tell me bluntly exactly why people couldn't relate to me. And our whole life we've done that for each other. We help each other grow as people. If you know someone with npd and you haven't made an effort to help they grow, rather accused them endlessly without expressing the issue, that is ableism!! That is what put people with npd at the forefront of this idea that disorders define abuse! That people with certain disorders are destined to be abusive, or crazy, or mean, or heartless, or whatever. No one is evil or good! We need to help each other!!!!

🗣 LOUDER FOR THE KZbin PSYCHOLOGISTS IN THE BACK!🗣 I’m so damn tired of hearing the word now bc everybody throws it around without actually knowing wtf they’re talking about. Quiet as it’s kept, we all have narcissistic traits. The difference is some of us are empathetic and have the ability to understand what we did was wrong & change our behavior. Narcissists don’t. For personality disorders, behaviors have to be displayed for a specific amount of time. My sister is Bipolar with Mania & has an adjustment disorder. She started displaying manic behavior in high school. When we were in the process of moving overseas, it got REAL bad. Now we realize that was her having an active manic episode. A lot of terms in the psychology or mental health field, don’t always mean what you think. I see the same thing when people talk about sex offenders too. I’ve been accused of defenders sex offenders bc I said pedophiles & child molesters aren’t the same thing. A pedophile is a victim typology and paraphilia. Pedophilia alone is not a criminal offense bc it’s viewed as a deviant, abnormal sexual behavior. Pedophiles strictly have a sexual attraction towards prepubescent children within a certain age range. All child molesters are not pedophiles & all pedophiles are not child molesters. We’re talking about a sexual behavior versus actually committing a sexual offense against a child. Not the same thing.

What's terrible is that i know too many people who don't like getting help regardless of what personality disorders they have. How everyone encourages to speak to a professional is great but a narcissistic person struggles with consistency in things and seeing things through to the end. They're always about achieving a goal but not always invested in what it takes to get to that goal because they may find the tasks belittling. So they're kind of stagnant too unless they step on others to get what they want. I do have some empathy for them, but it's because they won't seek help, and even when they are Christians they won't really get to know Jesus. They are rigid with others about their sins and extremely unrealistic about how God is about their own sin. It's either that they believe God is forgiving them although they don't repent, or they beat themselves up daily because of their black and white thinking. My empathy is with them. I wish they'd get help if it's available to them.

I dated a single mom for a while and I strongly believe she has this disorder. He behavior was unlike anything I had ever seen in another person. I even told her I was concerned about her mental health..... she denied everything, it's everyone else in the world that has a problem not her........ LOL

Question is are they also bipolar because one minute my ex partner love bomb you and then a few days later they would try and cause a arguement over nothing so that they had a reason in there head to yell and call you names and cause conflict and this is followed by how do you put up with them . And it’s just a roller coaster of emotions and of course it’s never them it’s always something they have accused you.and they will use your weakness against you

Yeah, you kinda are an asshole for it. It's not like they chose to be narcissistic. It's kinda like a brain deformity. It's not their fault, and they are victims of their own actions..even if they don't realize it or don't see it that way or don't care.

It's pretty useless to defend NPD patients. The harm they cause is knowingly and intentionally done. They do not suffer from psychosis or delirium. If you think they regret or feel remorse, do not assume that because they rewrite history, erase memories, never acknowledge and blame you as they are faultless.

I’m sorry I just popped up here to see the definition of “Narcissism” and it seems to be so subjective that I couldn’t call this a personality, I could justify just about anyone I know around me as a narcissist just on ego alone. Seems vague in its description and concept. Defining human actions is strange to me because people in general can be unpredictable 🤷🏻‍♂️

My worry with things like this is, there are a lot of people who are just terrible people with shitty character who could just make effort to be less shitty. They see this and go “ohhhh, I’m really not a shitty person, I just have a condition” There seems to be a medical backup for every ill these days. No disrespect to those who actually have a disorder.

Instead of saying 'Therapeutic", I view what you and others are doing here on KZbin as "Life coaching" for the 2020's. I have had very bad dealings with Narcissist's and flying monkeys for decades and it has gotten worse in the 2020s. What you are offering is NOT "Therapeutic" but instead "Life Skills" every decent person needs to know about the disturbing trend of Narcissism in our society.
