When I started keto my fasting glucose was around 78 then I went carnivore at it was 98. I know it's just my pet theory but I still firmly believe it was a signal that something was wrong. I think people that go on keto and get thin are able to outrun the stress that it's putting on the system before they reach the burnout point, but that wasn't what happened for me. Now I'm back at the higher end of low carb and my fasting glucose is in the low 80s but I'm still having problems with symptomatic hypos which I didn't have pre-keto. it's getting better very slowly.

But thank God for this piece of article kzbin.infoUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. In June 2020 my HBA1c was 14.0! My doctor called me in for an emergency consultation, and arranged for me to see a Diabetes Educator to learn how to inject Insulin. Well, that was the LAST thing I wanted, so I went "Keto" immediately. I managed to delay my appointment for a couple of weeks, and by the time I met with the Educator, my blood sugar was 5.9! She agreed with me that I didn't need Insulin. Phew! My last fasting blood test was in February, and my HBA1c was 5.1 and I've reversed my fatty liver disease!

My everyday fasting glucose has tended to be between 100-120 unless I fast for over a day. But I'm not obsessing about my glucose blood sugar levels any longer. I know I am no longer IR due to my triglyceride/HDL ratio, my loss of belly fat, as well as no sugar craving. Plus, at my physical in January I requested a blood insulin level to get a HOMA-IR. My fasting glucose level was 69 and my insulin level was 2.1 (both lower than "normal") so my HOMA-IR is 0.4--excellent. So I'm no longer concerned about my day to day blood sugar levels measured by my glucose meter because in 8 months of keto I have not cheated and am still eating low carb.

I had surgery in October 2019 and was tested for diabetes before hand. I was 5.3 fast forward to March 2020. I contracted Covid19. By October I was still having symptoms, so I joined a Covid support group. Many who were having some of my symptoms said they were diabetic. So I bought a monitor and tested and I was at 498. I got a doctors appointment and had several labs. Came back I had gallbladder, kidney, liver and pancreas damage. I tested as diabetic with my A1C at 9.4. She was very worried about my liver. But said she couldn’t do anything until my diabetes was under control So I started on metformin I was taking 2000 mg a day. I also started on a strict Keto diet this was beginning of November. I had labs on liver and kidney Dec and January all showing slight improvement. Skipped labs in February and then two weeks ago went in again. Had my A1C tested again also. Everything, everything came back normal. My A1C was 5.5 I’ve cut down to 500 mg a day of metformin and yesterday skipped meds all together and I woke with 107. My wake up glucose test is usually my highest. Firm keto believer!

I've been on a low carb "lifestyle" for nearly 2 years and the results are amazing! Most of my metabolic symptoms have disappeared except that my "LDL" has not gone down? My highest blood sugars are always higher in the morning (highest was at 112). I am 72 y/o and have had a long history of liver disease, cirrhosis, HCV and fatty liver! So I know my liver is "hanging on by a thread". Frankly, I wonder every day why I'm still alive! But I am and I'm grateful. Considering my health history, I am not complaining but I would like to know everything concerning results on a low carb diet? I do remember that there was a time normal blood sugars were in the 110-120 range and there are many other blood ranges that have been lowered in the past 20 years. I can't help but think that these lab values were lowered to prescribe medications sooner?

I typically fast for nearly 23 hours each day, consuming a dinner that's rich in fiber and protein, with a modest amount of carbohydrates, between 6-7 pm. This meal doesn't cause a significant increase in my blood sugar levels; they peak at 135mg/dl post-meal and drop back to around 100mg/dl within three hours. In addition to my daily routine, I make it a point to walk approximately 4-5 km before bed and another 5 km during the day, totaling about 10 km of walking every day. Before bedtime, my blood sugar levels are usually between 95-105mg/dl. However, during the night, I notice fluctuations, with my blood sugar levels oscillating between 115 to 150 mg/dl. Upon waking, the levels are about 120-125mg/dl, which then decrease to below 100 mg/dl by noon, thanks to my fasting state. Despite this active lifestyle and dietary management, my general practitioner diagnosed me with insulin resistance, indicating a HomaIR score of 4.7. I'm puzzled by these patterns and would like to understand why this is happening.
@DramaHeart16 күн бұрын
Insulin resistance: your pancreas has to keep producing more and more insulin but your liver is not responding. Meaning your probably having too much sugar (“fat”) stored in your liver and muscles. The only way to use up the stored glucose and bring your levels down is change in diet or fasting to use up whats stored . Your bs averaging 95-105 daily is high (even tho most doctors will say its with in “range”).

Hi, i am 34 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. my fasting glucose level has been between 85-94. I don't eat super low carb because i am pregnant, but i have reduced snacking and have noticed this is enough to allow me to eat as usual and keep my blood glucose levels within range. My ideal range set by my doctor is between 110-130 1 hour after meals. This is based on when my glucose levels spiked according to my 3 hour glucose tolerance test.

I was diagnosed as diabetic 20 years ago and have virtually no pancreatic function left. I require close to 200 units of insulin a day, on a normal diet. Last year, I started working out daily and eating an almost 0 carb diet and went from an average of 150 units of insulin per day, to less the 20 units on most days. Then COVID hit and I wound up working from home and eating poorly again. I just started the exercise program again and am looking for a more formal keto diet, rather than what I was doing before (a little meat, a little cheese, and pork rinds). I found your channel this week and have really been enjoying your videos.

I started keto about six of seven weeks ago and tested my fasting blood sugar and it was great. It was around 83-85. Even after eating my keto diet it would never get over 95 which I tested an hour after eating a meal. I thought I was doing well and didn't feel the need to test my blood glucose so regularly any longer. But then just this past week I tested myself to see how I was doing and my glucose morning fasted reading was 112 (approximately 12 hours of no eating) which was what it was when I was eating a high carb diet. I don't get it. Why was I doing fine at first and then it's now high again?

I've been diagnosed with T2D since 2010. I've been taking the normally prescribed meds. Last year, I was referred to an Endocrinologist. She took me off of my meds and put me on insulin. My A1C went down from over 8 to 7.1 in January. At my last lab tests, she said that I was actually a Type 1.5, still producing insulin, but not as much as I should be. The downside was that like most people taking insulin, my weight increased, almost 20 lbs, despite my normal walking schedule. I try to walk 10K steps a day and often walk 7-9 miles several times a week. I did not like the weight gain at all. So I stopped taking my insulin about 6 weeks ago and went on a Ketogenic diet. After about a week, my glucose readings were fairly consistent, but still not where they should be. I ranged from about 110 to about 150. Then about a week ago, my morning readings were anywhere from 160 - 200. If I get on my elliptical for an hour plus session, I can bring it down as I'm assuming that my muscles will use the glucose for energy. However, is there another way to eliminate excess glucose? I do not want to have to take insulin if at all possible. Thanks for the great explanations. Cheers.

I found your video after searching for why my glucose levels are high with a reduced carb diet. I am type 2 diabetic, who has recently taken my diabetes extremely seriously after having been diagnosed for the last 6 years. Taking control, and eating sensibly and eliminating virtually any source of sugar or carbs for the last 30 to 45 days has brought my blood sugar from an average of 165 plus down to approximately 80. This has been the case for the last 30 days approximately. The last 3 or 4 days, eating the same thing and exercising daily my blood sugar has risen to 95 to 105. I realized that is not high, but it is still an increase over what it had been. My thoughts have been that my body is adjusting to my new and improved dietary lifestyle, and your video would seem to confirm that. I am not on any diet that has a name attached to it, but I have just been using common sense and not worrying about my fats, but focusing on carbs and sugar. Thank you for the insight, and I will continue to check out your videos.

I've been eating keto for a little over 8 months now. Initially I noticed my fasting glucose was well within the normal range (usually in the 80s-90s) after only eating keto for a couple of months. Over time, I did notice my fasting glucose would range from the high 90s up to about 112. I also noticed my ketones were much higher when I first started keto. Now, even on a consistent keto feeding plan I'm in and out of ketosis several times throughout a day. I got a CGM (Libre 3) and noticed my glucose barely changes after eating a meal. My CGM graph looked almost identical to the one in your video illustrating why someone on a keto diet has elevated glucose in the mornings. I haven't gained or lost weight and my doctor's visits show that I'm metabolically healthy. My A1C went from 5.8 when I first started keto to 5.3. My triglycerides went from over 300 to 70, while my HDL went from 38 to 60. I'm down 40 lbs. from when I started keto and down 3 pants sizes. I went from wearing large sized shirts to small and mediums depending on the brand/cut. I guess my biggest question is if it's normal at this stage to go in and out of ketosis several times a day? *edit* I typically have less than 50 total carbs a day and 20 or less net carbs a day.

I am on a Keto Diet most of the time ... I rotate off periodically to eat some sensible carbs ... to get some nutrition I may be missing on Keto. The funny thing is, my fasting blood glucose is usually higher when I am on Keto than when I am not: about 122 on average on Keto and sometimes below 110 off Keto. Just had my A1C tested and that is now in the "normal" range. I have just started trying to deal with this ... the conventional drugs were VERY disappointing and only marginally effective ... PLUS one in particular was ridiculously expensive. I think I am on the right path for me now.

Another problem with many is that they are not in a metabolic state of ketosis, but are still sugar burners because of excess protein or lax carb watching, and simply aren’t measuring ketones to verify ketosis at all. Not that low carb in itself isn’t an improvement, but it really ain’t any significant form of ketosis.

I'm on a combination of Carnivore and the Keto diet & have lost approximately 7.5kg in one month; yet my fasting blood sugars are 5.9mmol and 6mmol (and that is taken just before I eat, and I've been fasting for 18 to 20hrs. Weirdly, my blood sugars don't seem to peak any higher Once I eat, and at times, my blood sugars start dropping once I eat. It's really strange. And, I have those ketosis urine dip sticks, and I'm always between the high end of moderate, and large for ketones too.

Hi Garlee, this is normal for us people with some Insuline Resistance. Dr Sten Ekberg explains this perfectly in one of his video's : kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpmnlouFi6qkrMk

I have been on Keto for a year- off and on getting frustrated without successes. Recently ai have got a Keto tester. It would appear that my frustration was warranted. I cannot seem to get my glucose down no matter how strict I am. My levels always elevated to 6-7.8 after meals even if they are completely carb free. Fasting blood sugar never gets lower than 5, usually 5.5 or higher. My highest keto level has been 1.7 and the next time I ate a Keto meal, it of course booted me out. I measure 1 1/2hrs to 2 hrs after. It’s so frustrating.

Finally a clear explanation why my fasting glucose is always around 90-105, and after meal my glucose is mostly lower than 100😂, sometimes lower than before meal.

Been keto for over 2 years now and Carnivore for the last 8-10 months. Also wear a CGM to monitor. I find sometimes my glucose gets a little higher than I like. Sometimes it scares me because I rarely eat any carbs. I find I have to do an extended fast to get glucose levels back to a more normal level. One thing I have tried is carb cycling occasionally to help prevent the whole carb sparing thing. But when I carb cycle I still don't do a lot of carbs. Something like a Avocado/blueberry(wild blueberries) smoothie.

You make me smile! #fangirl haha anyways, my fasting blood glucose this am was 103. Sometimes it is in the 90s. I ate keto for the last 11 months and have been carnivore most of this month and that's how I am staying. I am not worried about my higher blood glucose in the morning. Come afternoon and evening, it is always in the 80s or 70s; and never spikes after eating beef, butter, eggs, fish, or organs haha. I heard either Dr Cywes or Dr Berry say that the morning glucose should be the highest it gets all day. Seems to be so with me! And many other keto carni peeps.

Thanks for this video Kait. I did notice a rise in morning sugar levels and I came to the conclusion that it was the liver releasing glucose. When I started on ACV it went down a bit. I'm also using Chromium P which seems to help a little as well. This morning I was below 5.

I am in my 70es, female and started a low carb diet in Oct 2023, my blood sugar was great back then at 94 with an A1c of 4.9. I lost 12 pounds since October, feel great, had my lab work done yesterday Dec 8th 2023 at 10 am after fasting since 6 pm the night before, so today my results came in and showed my glucose at 100 🤪, I don’t know yet what my A1c will be but I am baffled about the 100, didn’t expect that at all because I eat low carb but not no carb and I been staying away from all sugar, so go figure! I have no clue what my doctor will tell me when she sees me, probably freaking out over it!🥴

Very interesting discussion about "insulin resistance" on Dr. Bosworth recently. Your explanation came very near to hers and had some added "nerdy details" (that weren't needed for yours). I'm glad to see you explain it your way - it helped. If you haven't watched it, you might enjoy it (or be bored cuz you already know it). It made things clearer for me. And you clarified it more.

I started carnivore about a month and a half ago after doing my own research and I noticed a change in my fasting bs after about a week. My bs have now been in 70 and 80 range for the past 3 wks. I have not had bs that good even while I was taking metformin. Not one single dr ever mentioned cutting carbs, as a matter of fact they advise eating more carbs in the form of healthy fruit and salads. Not only is this insane, it should be criminal to give advise that keeps people sick and dependent on medication.

The Dr allows you to take carbs despite your diabetes was probably because you were given the medication which suppresses blood sugar.

I’m trying to good answers but having a hard time. My mum tested both her BG and ketones the other day. Her BG was 98 yet she was producing ketones at 2.7! I am confused by this because her blood sugar was not low so does this mean she was burning ketones? Another YTuber said producing ketones is easy but using them is not. So how does one know if they aren’t using them but only producing them?

I started keto last September. I recently got a monitor, and after a cheat day on Mother’s Day, I finally got back into ketosis (0.5) this morning...six days later. However, my usually normal range of blood sugar went up to 123. I will check again tomorrow to see if that continues. Accentuating circumstance what is that I was dehydrated, and I had only eaten 800 calories the day before. Too busy to eat! I’m wondering if that had some affect on my sugar is well.

I did not do sugar test or Homa IR. I will do Homa ir when I next go to Dr. I am rarely in ketosis. Weight is excellent. Slept great LAST night. I am interested in ketosis to improve brain function. Will it work?

I just started using blood glucose meter, and that has taken me time to get used to - Finger sticks. 😒 I know I must do this. I am so determined to reverse this, that I threw everything away in my fridge and pantry. I want to beat this. I will watch more of your videos, and welcome any suggestions or readings.

If a person decides to come off KETO or Lo Carb diet and start eating carbs again or STANDARD AMERICAN DIET , will that cause their blood sugars to spike more than the average person thats never been on KETO or LO CARB? If so, Is it because the body is used to burning fat as fuel vs carbs?

Hi kait, I recently diagnosed with diabetes and my doctor prescribe me metformin but I am not taking it trying to control it through diet. I recently started keto diet, been doing it for three weeks now. I noticed that my blood sugar in morning is coming high around 7.8 to 8 mmol even when I am on intermittent fasting. But after I take my first meal after two hrs it comes down to 6.5 or 6 mmol. What does that mean? Before my regular Blood sugar was around 8 mmol through out the whole day now it's going down but why it's coming high even when I am in fasting and low carb diet. Can you advice?

So i love your videos and thank you for this video.. i am newly diagnosed as type 2.. my a1c was 11.8 that was less than 2 months ago.. my fasting glucose average is about 106 and that with most days are Carnivore with a day or two a week very strict keto . What interesting is when i first started testing it was in the low 90s then slowly ticked up the last 3 weeks.. i often test very early around 7 to 8 am.. im taking met formin twice a day.. im just going to keep at it, one thing i noticed was glucose after meals never really rises much.. like 120 would the highest.. and even curry with 1 cup of cooked rice was 130 two hours after meal! Thanks for all you do Kait..

Thank you for the important info. I was diagnosed as pre diabetic on one single test and I was dehydrated overnight and though mid-morning before the test. So I have some doubts about the test result. I am exercising and have made a big diet change. But my glucose reading is almost always higher in the morning 100-113mg/DL; but two hours after I eat lunch it usually in the mid 90s. What is your understanding of these readings.

I go on and off Keto a bit but almost always stay low carb. I have just recently started to measure my blood sugar and noticed it was higher than what my labs usually are (90 - 110). Your explanation is great and I need to do some testing after I eat now to see exactly how high my glucose levels get. I'm losing weight and the midsection is getting smaller, so I'm not too worried. But should I be concerned with a higher HbA1C? Last time I saw the doc it was 5.3.
