If you have intrusive thoughts, do these two things consequently and your intrusive thoughts WILL 100% get better or maybe even completely vanish if you do it long enough: Meditate daily (ideally 30-60+ minutes, I recommend Vipassana, which is simply putting your Awareness on your breath) and constantly practice Awareness throughout the entire day. Practicing Awareness means simply observing your thoughts and negative feelings in a distanced and detached way. You have to realize that you ARE the observer/the Awareness and not the observed thoughts. Do not identify with your thoughts and simply observe them from a distance. Intrusive thoughts are randomly generated and you have absolutely 0 control over them, but you have the power of being able to ignore them and not worry about them. Fully accept and welcome all thoughts, no matter how strange or disturbing they may be. Never feel ashamed, disgusted or shocked, this fuels intrusive thoughts immensely. Intrusive thoughts thrive on the attention and meaning you give to them. Meditating is gonna be extremely hard at first, but don't be discouraged, it will become easier and easier the more you meditate and practice Awareness. The goal would be to remain in Awareness 24/7, which would make you completely invulnerable to all intrusive thoughts. Wishing you all the best 😊❤

TW: I'm a bit late to this comment but, for me it's more like there's a voice that suggests disturbing things, which are the intrusive thoughts. It's not always like putting all effort into doing the wrong thing, depending on what the wrong thing is. Personally, I will get an intrusive thought about compulsively doing something to hurt myself, which can be difficult to restrain at times. So then there's like another part of me that says "if you do [insert obsession here lol] it won't happen". It can vary for different people, I think, but that's just my experience with it.

@@starscreamfan288 no worries, people can only have it if they've been through some hardships like us. This stuff happens for a reason. I've thought a lot about how and why I got it and I realized it's because of a number of things. Childhood traumas, punishment for small transgressions and underachievement, bullying, long-term lack of things I really really needed, above all lack of freedom, loneliness at a later period in life etc, things that make you do a little too much introspection and push yourself to the limit because at some point you start to believe your life sucks because you haven't worked hard enough. All this stuff makes you into a hypersensitive perfectionist. It's not really a disorder, it's our personality shaped by our environment and people, good and bad. And there is no medication against it, unless you simply believe it can help you, which.. can help, I guess.

The overbearing, I get angry and almost cry sometimes. I can control it for months at a time but it always comes back. Its simple, just dont do it, thats the obvious and ineffective answer. ITs born of trauma and anxiety. As anyone with OCD knows, if you ignore a compulsion, your mind goes into a state of anticipating bad things and for relief you give into the compulsion and its never enough.

I never got diagnosed with OCD but my mom told me I had to acknowledge that I had some kind of obsession like this so I could do something about it. It started when I was 9 and I started washing my hands every time I touched something. I got better at the age of 11-13 but now I'm 14 and I wake up at night just to wash my hands. I also get these bad thoughts that are like ´if you don't throw this pen right now your dog will die´. Ive gotten that a lot. More of the symptoms are that I need to check every app in my phone before I go to sleep and check every room in my house, may sound childish but its exhausting. Ive never said anything about this to my friends, probably cause I once had this friend that was such an attention seeker it wasn't even fair. She's not my friend anymore though. When I would tell her I had, for example, lost a family member she would say ´oh yeah I lost like three yesterday´ (real story btw). It made me feel so sick of her and it happened just too often, almost like she had to top me in everything. Therefore, I never told her about my obsession because that is exactly what she'd do. (idk if these examples sound stupid, it´s hard explaining her). Anyways I thought I´d open up about this here in the comment section cause... why not :/

If you have OCD (compulsions and/or intrusive thoughts) do these two things consequently and your compulsions and intrusive thoughts WILL 100% get better or maybe even completely vanish if you do it long enough: Meditate daily (ideally 30-60+ minutes, I recommend Vipassana, which is simply putting your Awareness on your breath) and constantly practice Awareness throughout the entire day. Practicing Awareness means simply observing your thoughts and compulsions in a distanced and detached way. You have to realize that you ARE the observer/the Awareness and not the observed thoughts and compulsions. Do not identify with your thoughts and compulsions and simply observe them from a distance. Intrusive thoughts and compulsions are randomly generated and you have absolutely 0 control over them, but you have the power of being able to ignore them and not worry about them. Fully accept and welcome all thoughts and compulsions, no matter how strange or disturbing they may be. Never feel ashamed, disgusted or shocked, this fuels intrusive thoughts and compulsions immensely. Compulsions and intrusive thoughts thrive on the attention and meaning you give to them. Meditating is gonna be extremely hard at first, but don't be discouraged, it will become easier and easier the more you meditate and practice Awareness. The goal would be to remain in Awareness 24/7, which would make you completely invulnerable to all compulsions and intrusive thoughts. Wishing you all the best 😊🙏❤

This video provides a decent explanation of OCD (put a little but too much emphasis on the cleaning compulsions. Intrusive thoughts also pertain to long-term anxieties (that also lead to compulsions). It's not just "oh, I am so worried that the oven is on and I have to check on it all the time." It's also long-term, non-immediate obsessions, such as the fear of being mocked by others, the deaths of loved ones, or even existential worries that gnaw at your mind. These obsessions are not about the stove being on or the door being unlocked; they're about the intangible, persistent, and often overwhelming thoughts that shadow your every move. These anxieties lead to a myriad of compulsions, including body-repetitive behaviors ( trichotillomania, dermatillomania, etc), hoarding disorder, body dysmorphic behavior, and so much more.

Things I stopped doing since age 12 because of my OCD: Read a book. (I can't read a line without rereading it 3 more times) -Play the guitar. (I get strong urges to touch certain parts of the guitar while in the middle of a song) -Ride my bike. (I'll have to push both feet in front of the wheel for no reason, which hurts like hell) -Sleep peacefully. (I have at least 5 compulsions that take at least 3 minutes each whenever I crawl into bed) -Get out of bed to get water. (Whenever I re-enter my bed, I have to redo my original bed compulsions) -Solve a Rubik's cube. (I can't make it a few seconds in without touching compulsions. This sucks because I used to be able to do it in about 10-15 seconds) -Do many exercises. (Especially push ups, I have to do an even number of them or a certain pre-determined number which wears me out and leads to injury) -Think. (Whenever I think about a situation in my head, I have to redo certain parts of it until it feels just right. It usually takes 8-16 tries, but only an even number of tries of course)

Wishing you all the best 😊❤

Im a 31yr old man who has lived with ocd for as long as my brain has been capable of making long term memories. Out of all the struggle and torment it has caused me through life what has to be the worst part is this fact: if I ever do meet a woman and develop a serious relationship it probably wont last because odds are she will want children. This is not an option for me because I think passing these genes would be a terrible thing to do,how do you create something in good conscience knowing it will suffer. This sucks so bad.

I'm attached to objects too and a little scratch, stain or even smell on them can impact me harder than a punch in the jaw and I can spend eternity ruminating it and thinking how I can fix it or at least figure out some stupid excuse to let it go. Sometimes it works, sometimes not and I'm stuck until something new happens and helps me through Very very exhausting and depressing, and makes me consider suicide every time. And all because there is so little happiness outside this little artificial world of mine. I literally think of micro damage, molecules and all that kind of bizarre stuff. Any change is traumatic, whether real or imaginary.

@@misslola1194 Yeah, I hear you. And imagine you have to live in an environment where people around you do exactly the opposite leaving all sorts of traps and seemingly crave to destroy everything you've been trying to keep safe and clean. And it's not just an example, it's my actual every day life. On top of that, I got very intolerant towards certain smells. I can't stand tobacco, I can't stand certain cleaning solutions, deodorants, I keep thinking they soak into my clothes or my other stuff and remain their forever. I don't want to touch some things because I know they smell and for all I know those are tiny particles of these different substances and they probably stick to you, which is why I always wash my hands after touching anything suspicious. Could be anything, a spoon, a lighter, a door knob, which someone else touched IN MY HOUSE, etc. And the more I try to avoid it, the more there is to come. I believe this forced lifestyle is, in fact, a part of what made me like this. Seems like I'm one of those people who could live in a mess half of their life and against their will too, but instead of accommodating they grow intolerant towards it until it's a huge problem, and next you know every small thing becomes the last nail for you.

Never knew I had this disorder just recently went to a doctor and got to know wtf is wrong with me. All this pain and suffering since 5 years, now I know what was the issue. I would write a single word at least 10 times during my exams. I would get exhausted because of that. My med school exams were like a world war. I had to fight with my brain and my body. I doubted it first because I also had disturbing and violent thoughts, I thought if I go to a doctor they would give me some crazy schizophrenia pills. Now with my meds I am at ease but still this shit is hard to fight. I wouldn't wish OCD on anyone.

I was diagnosed with OCD just a month ago. I've always been interested in mental health issues and I knew what OCD was but somehow I couldn't see that was my problem. I will think that I haven't closed the windows and my cat is going to fall off and die and it will all be my fault because I didn't close the window and I will have to go back and check it. I will think I took the wrong train or bus knowing damn well I didn't and I will be breathless until I arrive at my destination. I will count on and on and on endlessly when I'm nervous, losing focus on what's going on around me. And I still wasn't able to see that was clearly OCD. This disorder is overwhelmingly misunderstood and people saying "oh those lines aren't perfect, that's giving me OCD" doesn't help AT ALL.

I have OCD. I’ve had it since I can remember. Initially (from a young age 6+) my fear point was the death of myself, whether that be murder, killing/hurting myself unintentionally. It got to a point where I couldn’t be alone or sleep alone due to the fear. Today, (I’m 21) my fear point is death of everyone I care about. I’m struggling because I get thoughts and images, which I will never be able to un-see. Gratefully, I was able to be alone again from the age of 12 (I know it’s old to sleep in your mothers bed, but I was an undiagnosed OCD traumatised child, so it’s all I knew). I am receiving High Intensity CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) in a few months & I am on medicine to help with my OCD, Social Anxiety & Generalised Anxiety. I wish I knew sooner, but this tends to be a common theme amongst those mentally unwell. I love and pray for all those that are unknown & known.

I can't control it and when I get them I start to rub my fingers but it only makes it worse and I can't stop doing it. I remember how good was a life without this thing ( idk if its ocd or not) and how I lived in reality and not in those weird unwanted thoughts and stress that I have and a fear that I could say something out loud when I'm in my thoughts. I think I may have OCD so I am watching a lot of psychology videos to make sure I have it before getting an appointment with a doctor. Well, "rituals" in general seem to resonate with me a lot: for example, I like a certain way of packing my bag, the night before school. I HAVE to do it in that SPECIFIC way and my parents keep on telling me, "It's not efficient, why are you doing it that way?" I just say, "Well, I like to do it that way." Because of this routine, I usually waste around 1:30 hrs of my evening. The last 2 points about Repeating and Arranging also relate to me as well. Well, you're probably already bored so I'll just bore you a tiny bit more with another example. I like texting or writing online with PERFECT punctuation. If I don't, it really bugs me and in the end, I cave in and waste another half a minute editing my text to put in punctuation. All my friends all make fun of me because of this certain habit, joking "Why even bother? It's fricking WhatsApp/Messages; you don't need punctuation!" I never listen. I have an urge to do it that way. And I don't think I ever will change. 2 things to remember: -I don't really have intrusive thoughts or anything like that. It's more of like my body feels weird; it really bugs me, and I feel in order to stop it I must do/perfect/organise it. -Wasting of my time does not really bother me. I just say to myself, "It is necessary, I can't change my routine like that!" So, in conclusion, what do you think? Do you think I may have OCD? Is it worth getting an appointment with a doctor? Thank you.

During this pandemic with online learning I had to submit my assignments or homework via email during a specific time, I remember checking a billion times if I sent it and taking pictures of the screen conferming that I did send it and looking at that picture again and again for reassurance, I really didn't wanna fail because of one stupid mistake (me forgetting to send my work to my professor). Also with my feet, I am obsessed with them going through the same thing. For example if I step on a stone with my left foot, I have to do that with my right foot. I am always anxious about my ID, cards and money so I am always checking my bag to make sure that I didn't lose them, I do this a lot 🙆🏽‍♀️ but I don't think I have OCD. I came to this video because my friend asked me to check it out. Please don't self diagnose 👏🏾

Years ago, I once left a stove on and my parents went crazy. Since then I have to check the stove at intervals: after I've used it, directly after I've left the kitchen, every few minutes after being out of the kitchen, whenever I'm in the kitchen and before I go to sleep. The same applies for things like a TV, iron, or anything you need to switch off after use and if I don't check it I feel like something really bad would happen 😔

If you have intrusive thoughts or OCD, do these two things consequently and your OCD and intrusive thoughts WILL 100% get better or maybe even completely vanish if you do it long enough: Meditate daily (ideally 30-60+ minutes, I recommend Vipassana, which is simply putting your Awareness on your breath) and constantly practice Awareness throughout the entire day. OCD and intrusive thoughts thrive on the attention and meaning you give to them. Meditating is gonna be extremely hard at first, but don't be discouraged, it will become easier and easier the more you meditate and practice Awareness. The goal would be to remain in Awareness 24/7, which would make you completely invulnerable to OCD and all intrusive thoughts. Wishing you all the best 😊❤

I am afraid I have ocd. I remember having excessive obsessive thoughts when I was younger. I was worried I would kill my family or myself and that if I didn’t do the compulsions they would die. I would also pray at night 12 times specifically as a compulsion. As I grew older, I grew out of this and eventually stopped doing some of the compulsions. Then, I would have really weirdsexually intrusive thoughts. I didn’t feel too guilty about those thoughts since I thought it was just my weird horny mind and that I shouldn't worry about it too much. Now that I look back and res researched more on OCD, I am afraid that I have OCD and have spent a few hours the past week researching about it. I don’t have many compulsions now and I have mild obsessions at the moment. I have a normal social life and keep up with school, but I still have certain obsessive thoughts occasionally on death and sexuality. Should I worry over this or is it just my paranoia?

Do you know what really hurts me more? When Ppl with real OCD are fighting it there are some ppl who fake it as a way of showing it as a modern thing. My sister's son is less than a year old and while he was crawling one day a grain of rice stuck to his hands. He noticed it and just didnt know how to remove it so he saw me. I removed it from his hand and he smiled and started doing whatever he was doing. My sister was near me and she was like he is suffering from OCD. I was like what?? My mom and dad are from typical Indian family so they dont know much about these kinds of disorder and my mom asked me what it was? I just gave her an example I saw on youtube and told her this is an example but I dont know to explain it. I will search in our Native language so you can understand it better. She was ok and told me to do it on my free time. I then turned to my sister and said why do you say that? She told me that her husbands cousin has OCD so it runs in their blood and when her son grows up he will definitely have OCD. I told her This is a mental condition and you are not even a Doctor. Do you know how many ppl suffer because of OCD. Just pray your son doesnt get one rather than insisting on he has it thus making him believe he has OCD when he becomes older. I was really hurt that they just say it like its a fashion choice. I mean if he really has it, he should get certain help but when he is only less than a year old and when we are not expert in that field should we stop making up things? Its ok when he gets older and then going for counselling but we should not insist that he has a mental illness that he doesnt. I mean who doesnt want to remove a sticky rice from their hands? Since I dont have anyone to talk about this who can understand I thought of sharing it here. Sorry if it was too big of a message

Since when I was 11 year old I'm suffering from OCD..my family and friends too make fun of me as if I'm more like an Alien from another planet..I try and I really try each and every time to fix this obsessions and compulsions..but it comes back with much greater force..and because of this I'm having delusions..that's why I became very less active and demotivated..at some point I felt like what's the meaning of this life If I have to be in this misery whole time..where no one is there for you to listen your problem or hug you and to say "everything's gonna be fine"..but I still haven't gave up and I'm not gonna gave up..still fighting and will fight till my last breathe. REMEMBER "You are not inside of your brain instead the brain is the one who is inside you..the purpose of the brain is to serve you not to harm you..and yes..you will succeed and overcome this for sure..You're not alone"❤

Commonly people with OCD are obsessive over being clean. So lets say in the shower you are rinsing your arm and you rinsed your shoulder then your forearm then your hand. Lets say once you get to your hand, you think "wait I feel like I didn't do a good enough job rinsing the dirt from my shoulder, and so you go back and do your whole arm again. Then when you get back to rinsing your hand again you think "wait I know I rinsed twice but I feel like I may have missed a spot on my shoulder" and you do this ritual over and over again. Now imagine rituals and Compulsions like these literally being present for your entire day 24/7. And people with OCD usually realize that what they are doing is irrational but they really cannot help it because their compulsions are too strong and always lingering to have these rituals. That really is OCD. OCD is commonly misconceived by society. It's not having to even things out when you touch something and you have to touch it with the other side too or having to order a pencil straight or in a certain way. These are Obsessive tendencies but not even close to OCD. OCD is a CHRONIC disorder which, for most, will literally control their lives.

I unfortunately have OCD and believe me, it's not a pretty feeling. When you're stuck in the "trance" of doing things over and over again, you really can't stop. And you feel like you're never going to escape. And if you try to, you have this urge that doesn't go away. I get stuck touching doorknobs for, like, 3 minutes a lot. I really wish it could go away. But my OCD does let me be more organized, so that's that! Oh, plus I hate the numbers 12, 14, 6, 5, 9, 0, especially 16, and every other number that ends with 6 5 9 0 4 or 2.

I just realized yesterday, that I probably have OCD, when my KZbin recommendations with "What is OCD" popped up. The whole thing kind off started, when I started avoiding even numbers. Like whatever I did, I had to do it like three or five times. And at first, I was like "I just like odd numbers", but then it got a little bit worse. It started like a month or two ago, but I believe that it's worth when I'm worrying. When I go outside, it's not that bad, but if I get scared of something, for example, some kind of nuclear powerplant exploding and all of us dying, then I start doing these things all over again. I've also noticed, that it's also hard with texting or social media. Sometimes I even count the words and try to leave an odd number of words. Or be like: "If I don't like all of the comments on this comment section, something bad will happen." It's always something with my fears. I've always been a little more anxious and nervous, if I saw, that someone was sick of something, I got scared that me or my family or grandparents would get sick of that and I would search for Information and symptoms of that disease, and see if I'm not sick of that and if you couldn't die of that and even worse if someone died of that lol and I'm now fourteen. But I know it's getting better and I can control it more and more honestly. At first it was a little things, but then it started to be very hard. I think this whole OCD thing started like a month ago, but like five months ago, I was very strict about my night routine and had to do dumb things, otherwise, something bad would happen (nothing bad happened, but I was just scared). Also, I'm now scared that my grandparents would die, even though they aren't sick or anything. Also, what I have been doing for a week maybe, and you should try doing it too, ask "yourself" or that voice in your head: "Is it okay (, if I (don't) do it)? And then answer: "Oh yea, it's totally fine/okay/alright" and then say it: "Okay, thank you". And don't do that OCD thing. And also, just don't do something, and if nothing bad happened, you will feel good and stop to do that thing. Oh, and also, if I'm walking, I always have to go through some kind of line with my right leg lol. And sometimes, outside, I have to touch some kind of twig. Also, when watching KZbin, or movies, I have to stop at a certain time, or watch something that I don't want to, or watch a certain amount of videos. So yea, but it's really getting better I feel like. And I know I was just so good feeling and happy before this all, and I feel like one of the biggest reasons for my OCD is quarantine, because I'm really a social person and it's been hard not talking to people. I've also noticed, that it's harder for me to believe in God with OCD honestly, because I feel like I trust myself more then God God.

All my life I thought that obsessive thoughts were an ADHD thing, but I searched A LOT on that and what I found was relatable but not really what I felt. And I found it weird, because when I told people that when I had a crush I couldn't do nothing at all, I couldn't study, I couldn't focus/caring about loved ones or talking to other people (including the crush), I couldn't even sleep properly. I went to an ADHD specialized psychiatrist to change my pills, because, as it turns out, methylphenidate worsens the obsessive thoughts. He didn't diagnosed me with OCD, I don't have that much compulsiveness, but prescribed regulating thoughts pills. It was great, I think I never felt that happy for an extended period of time! I could have a normal conversation with my friends and girl friends and older cousins and girl cousins; I could have a normal conversation with anybody without obsessing over that person. But it didn't make me concentrate. So now I take both pills and feel kinda normal... Idk. Does any ADHDer relates to this?

I have few thoughts as shown in the video like I also think that what if I forgot to turn off the switch of the fan when I left the room. I come back to check it, and then as i just left the room, I may think about like my brain would ask me "u sure you fan wasn't on??". But I dont have these thoughts every time. Just merely few times! I'm confused here with me! Are these thoughts are supposed to be syndrome of OCD??

And noting can be 3, if i clap My hands 2 times, i need to do it again for 2 times so its not 3, 3 just doesn’t feel Right. And if i did that, i need to clap 2 times 2 and do that 4 times, because other wise it would be 3 times 2 times 2 claps. I dont know why 3 is a wrong number, but i just feel Not Right when its 3. And i Check almost everything, like My phone, i Check like 5 times a Minute if its in My bag. If the light is off, everything. And what the Video shows of thinking i forgot to unplug something, i would also Check things like That, sometimes i would Check it over 10 times.

OCD isn’t just being obsessed with organizing people! It’s also being obsessed with doing something an amount of time, I have ocd and if I don’t do something 3 times I will think someone will get hurt or something bad will happen, you DONT have ocd if you like to organize, ocd causes anxiety and even depression talk to a therapist if you have these!

My dad is autistic and has OCD, this combination literally fucked up his life and ours, he would wash hands up to hundred times a day, gambled all his money away and never contributed financially to the family (there was occasional domestic violence too). One of my brothers inherited the autism from him, he's now in his 40s and still acting like a child, evading life responsibilities. Then me, I think I had autism and OCD at points in my life, something which I only realized when I'm in my mid 20s (I am now 34) Fortunately, it gradually and eventually went away after everything that I've been through in my life...

I'm 13 and I've been going through my OCD and anxiety for about 7 months now. My brain convinces me that I cant breathe towards anyone unless I say that I breathe "good" air towards them and I have to breathe "bad" air towards a window so it can get out of the universe. I cant control it and its ruining my life. I also have OCD where I have to put the TV's volume on a multiple of 5, I must count to 25 when doing most activities, take 25 breaths when doing something and a whole bunch of other stuff that's related to the number 25. My mind also tells me that the numbers 55, 6, 20, 16, and 2 are cursed. It is ruining my life and I feel like a part of me disappears everyday. I need help but I'm too scared that my parents wont believe me. I'm even too scared to tell my friends. Thanks tho for reading.

Everyday my face was looking depressed, those thought were terrible, and if I don't wash my hands my mine not let me do any other work, like 'first go and wash your hands' my mind always disturb me like this. One day my family take me to the doctor then all those medicines when I fell better, now I have changed a lot 😊 but now also I am not fully cure but 75/100 I have changed I hope I will change and say 'I did it'. 🤗

your mother is suffering from what is known as contamination ocd. I suffer from that as well and it makes everything about your life difficult, don't think your mother enjoys doing all of that she just feels compelled to do so and it is physically and mentally exhausting. I would tell you about my experiences with contamination ocd but i don't want to make this too long. Just know that it is an absolute mental prison and i am now feeling so embarrassed becoz everyone around me notices. For more info about the different forms of ocd check out this link www.webmd.com/mental-health/obsessive-compulsive-disorder#1 Also i guarantee your mother is going through contamination OCD. After u've viewed the first link, you can now watch the video in this link kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4q8oKumZrR4idE so you can have a better understanding. Also read the comments on that video so you can see from the experiences of others that perhaps you know what u r dealing with.

here is how i cured my ocd completely, i believe ocd happens because of unresolved trauma, and i was suffering from ocd recently because of triggered trauma, and my ocd intrusive thoughts increased, so every time when i got triggered, i started noticing physical sensations in the body instead of fighting my thoughts and feelings, i started being present with the feeling in the body, i started giving my attention to that physical sensations whenever intrusive thoughts came, or feelings, i grounded my self, and took deep breaths 4 inhale and 8 exhale through pursed lips about 10 times with each completion of breath i said to myself “ i am okay, i am safe and i am alright “ and ocd went away after few days, and also i began to do chakra meditation every night, these problems i believe are mostly due to imbalance in life forces. Do this it has helped me hope this help you too. wish you guys peace and love.
