We make loads of things out of peek at our place and it's so strong then you get vespel which we sell to space technologies, I've not been at this place long but it's so interesting. Cannot believe how expensive it all is to

Hahahaha right! Of course, compared to prices for CNC/Injection molding, it's amazing how a small part for $800 is actually affordable to the people getting it... previous cost was $14k, insane! Mind-blowing how expensive this stuff can be!

You guys do know that the stratasys patent for heated chamber never covered the heated chamber in itself, but only an implementation where the motion components are outside and not subject to the full oven temperature, right? Your printer design would have not infringed from day one.

That is correct. The printer is designed by Intamsys, not ourselves -- thanks though!

I just wish that PEEK would be more affordable and available as from what I can tell, in Europe it costs around 300€ per 500g and very little availability or variety.

Hi! I am trying to print PEEK on my self built 3D printer. It prints well on 390/120 hotend/buildplate (passive chamber at 45 degrees during print) and does not warp during printing at all, but warps a little after cooldown. After annealing it warps even more. Tried with and without brim, different adhesives, removing part just after print finished or waiting till buildplate cools down. Nothing helps. The part is a gear 43mm in diameter. Is there a solution for this? Or it's just something wrong with my PEEK? I tried to heat fillament up to 260 degrees and it doesn't melt at all, so it's not ABS or Nylon.
@VisionMiner
@VisionMiner 4 жыл бұрын
Sort of confused -- PEEK won't melt until 343C, but what are you referring to? It may just be the chamber temp needs to be hotter, to allow the part to relax slightly more during the printing.
@TheNamelessOne12357
@TheNamelessOne12357 4 жыл бұрын
@@VisionMiner Yes, PEEK won't melt at 260. I just tried to test if it is real or fake PEEK. And it seems to be real. OK, I will try to increace chamber temperature. Thanks for advice!

Your videos are awesome and I really like your insights on high temperature 3d printing. At 0:26 you mentioned peek is as strong as steel by volume. Does that mean that a beam with the same length and same base area printed in peek will be stronger than steel or did you mean it's stronger by weight? So that if the two beams were the same length and weighed the same the peek one would be stronger?
@VisionMiner
@VisionMiner 3 жыл бұрын
By volume -- so theoretically, the same size part will be as strong as steel, but lighter. In 3D Printing this doesn't always apply, due to layer adhesion and whatnot (being improved in new materials), but that's the baseline of the specs, yes :)

@@VisionMiner Also because in 3d printing its not just the material thats in question, its the adhesion between the layers of the material that are the weak points. We had to return a carbon fibre printer for that reason. Cf itself is strong and can be layered correctly as a thread for perfect strength, but the adhesion between the Cf thread depends on the other material thats being printed along with it. And this means then eventually it breaks easily because this adhesion was never good enough, infact worse than a single material layered.

Check out our Nano Polymer Adhesive (visionminer.com/adhesive) -- we made it specifically for PEEK and ULTEM in our own print service, it's a game changer. However, you might also be reaching limits of PEEK itself - it's extremely difficult to get a good crystallized part over 1cm thick, so if you're going too thick, it might just be reaching it's own limits. 160c+ on the bed, 400-450c on the nozzle, and crank the chamber as hot as it will go!

Hi, currently I am working on a custom project which requires the chamber of a gun to be fully 3D printed. This means that the material I use will have to be able to withstand the high pressure environment of a gun chamber and not break apart. Would you recommend PEEK or CFPEEK? This is very dangerous because of the tendency of 3D printed parts to break apart at the layers due to layer adhesion issues. What would you recommend to reduce layer adhesion issues?
@Guds777
@Guds777 2 жыл бұрын
nope nope nope, the pressure in chamber can be from 25 to 50,000 PSI. so do not 3D print chamber for a gun. Usually when fibers reinforced polymers are used to contain high pressure they use Continuous woven fibers method, which you can not get with a standard 3D printer...
