***NOTE*** You can also set your SAG outside the range I stated! That range is the one recommended for a broad range of applications but if you have a specific application, you can set it outside that range. The info I give, is for your SAG to be more suited for one thing or another but usable on every kind of circumstances nonetheless! If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment! 😊

I think SAG does a few GOOD THINGS. 1: It DECREASES HEAD and FORK ANGLE for High-Speed Stability. 2: It INCREASES HEAD and FORK ANGLE for Quick Turunig Response in Tight Breaking Corners. 3: It Allows the Rear Wheel to TRACK and GRIP small Stutter Bumps. I Raced a KX-250 for 10 Years.

sag is a street term for ride height or shock travel mid stroke setting.

How do you adjust the sag on the forks? Is it only the spring rate that be changed to affect that?
@StepstoPodium4 жыл бұрын
most forks need to be disassembled to change the spring rate bit there are some brands that have a some adjustability on the preload without disassembling! 😊

As an mtb rider and tech, I wonder why I never see sag setup for front forks in moto. On mtb's we set sag on both fork and shock.

Hi there, great channel! Im no expert regarding Sag setting for hard enduro. I asked some pro riders Webb, Gomez and Bolt what setting they run and most of them said 110 of sag. 95! Are you sure that you haven't got it the wrong way round? Obrigado. Hi. My sag was set to 110. I adjusted my sag to 95 and took it for a test ride. I

Hey Karl! thanks for the comment! 😊 One thing I don't stress enough is that for most things, we shouldn't compare to the pro riders. at all actually. their bikes are completely different than the ones we have on the shelf. they use different suspension components, different mousses, different everything that are really tailored to their riding style. the values that you find out there are values recommended for us common mortals and not for them! 😂 About the Sag more specifically, the suspensions are completely different (sometimes their settings are tailored to one race in particular!!) and we should not based ourselves on their settings. What works for them does not necessarily work for the most of us, but it's something that works really funking well for marketing purposes ☺😂 However, I said that you can set your Sag anywhere between that range (and probably I should've said as well that you can set it outside that range as well), most of the time is a matter of trial and error to see what best suits you! PS: thanks for the "Obrigado", good to know that there are people that care where you're from! 💪💪

I really like the sag at 95. The bike has better traction. Obrigado Karl.

Well, How to adjust sag at the front to fit the rear? Thanks
@StepstoPodium3 жыл бұрын
It depends on your suspensions, but if you don't have suspensions with preload adjuster, you have to change the number or height of the washers that provide the preload 😊
@lostinpa-dadenduro75553 жыл бұрын
How do you tell if you have too little preload on the shock? A too stiff spring.
@StepstoPodium3 жыл бұрын
On the video I explain that 😊
@lostinpa-dadenduro75553 жыл бұрын
@@StepstoPodium Sorry. I watched again and figured it out. I have an Xtrainer and ordered the Factory shock from Beta Suspension. The documentation is confusing in the way that they explain the spring settings. They talk about measuring the free spring length and trying to achieve 8mm of length reduction when you have installed the spring on the shock and adjusted sag.
@aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh7 ай бұрын
I would never preload a spring. Just find the right spring rate without the neee of preloading. If this is too stiff change the frame kinematics. Cheers

I’m 245 pounds do yu think if the bike sits too low with me on it it’s putting a lot of stress on my motor? I have a kx450
@StepstoPodium3 жыл бұрын
If you are riding with a spring too soft, you might blow the stroke out and transfer some load to the chassis. I thinl you should be more worried with the chassis then the engine! The will still have to pull the equivalent to almost 2 guys riding so you'll be pushing the engine quite a bit but it all depends if you do big jumps or not

not sag, ride heigth: vs suspension travel ride height set so shock travel is 33 percent droop and 66 percent bump. also rake set to balance handling. spring rate in cps 2.0 for road racing. 1.6-1.2 cps for single track.

@CW-up7xv3 жыл бұрын
Wait a minute, you're saying you want more sag for fast and less sag (95mm end) for slow? Shouldn't that be reversed?
@StepstoPodium3 жыл бұрын
Nop. At higher speeds you are more likely to jump and what not compared to more technical riding, so you have to have more suspension stroke able to extend and compensate for that.
@CW-up7xv3 жыл бұрын
@@StepstoPodium I agree. So wouldn't you want less sag (95mm vs 110mm) for fast speed to get more allowable suspension travel? Now I'm confused.
@StepstoPodium3 жыл бұрын
Having a bigger sag allows 2 things: 1- you are making the extension stroke less "reactive", making the rear end more stable, 2- you are allowing the rear to have more available travel to compensate for wholes, since at high speeds it's impossible to avoid jumping. How the shock will react on compression, that's up to the hidraulic damping part which has nothing to do with the spring
