What is this program?
The Section 811 program allows persons with disabilities to live as independently as possible in the community by subsidizing rental housing opportunities which provide access to appropriate supportive services.
The Section 811 Project Rental Assistance program makes an accessible home in the community affordable for low-income adults with disabilities (ages 18 and older, and less than 62 years of age at time of admission to the property).

Who is eligible for this program?
For projects funded by capital advances and supported by project rental assistance contracts (PRACs), households must be very low-income (within 50 percent of the median income for the area) with at least one adult member with a disability (such as a physical or developmental disability or chronic mental illness).
For projects funded with Project Rental Assistance, residents must be extremely low-income (within 30 percent of the median income for the area) with at least one adult member with a disability.
How do I apply for this program?
Applicants must submit an application in response to a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) published in the Federal Register each year and posted on Grants.gov.

In order to ensure that persons with disabilities may live in community settings rather than in institutions, affordable and accessible housing is necessary. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) operates a number of programs that provide housing for persons with disabilities in various ways. The Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program is authorized to provide capital grants and project rental assistance to nonprofit developers of housing targeted specifically to persons with disabilities. Prior to creation of Section 811, persons with disabilities lived together with elderly residents (defined by HUD as households with one or more adults age 62 or older) in developments funded through the Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly program.
The project-based Section 8 and Public Housing programs give project owners the option of dedicating facilities to elderly residents, residents with disabilities, or both populations together. Over the years, both the Section 811 and the tenant-based Section 8 programs have set aside housing vouchers for persons with disabilities. And two HUD block grant programs-HOME and the Community Development Block Grant-may be used by states and communities to construct or rehabilitate housing for persons with disabilities.

Just found you. Thanks for the information. I think our time has run out. I have ms and other medical issues that not only prevent me from working standard job, but now we are going to be evicted in less than a month. I just couldn't figure out what to do. I don't even get disability.

Hello, i’ve been listening to your videos, trying to figure out what I should do. I am blind. I was living with my mom until she died in 2020 since then I’ve been living with my cousin but I know I have to find a place to live. I’m in Oklahoma. I have not been able to talk to anyone at the Housing Authority every time I call I leave a message I don’t hear back, I think I managed to get on the list for public housing but I’m so scared I just want to be in a safe place.
