What was your favourite scene from the show? And, how do you feel about the announcement that there will be TWO more seasons?!?!

Fuji-sama best nun!! In all seriousness though, I'm a lil' nervous for two more seasons. It's already tough to top something with an incredible, tidy finale... but with Mariko gone and Toranaga's secret desires revealed too?? Of course, getting two seasons means they can plan longer term so guess I'll just wait and be extremely seated lol.

Im not going to lie, as a Muslim this video helped me understand my religion and answered questions about how we understand fate and destiny very well. Islam is often translated as "peace" but it is peace that is attained through submission and servitude to the Creator of everything. Thus similar to the idea of service and duty in feudal Japan, but saved for God and not for any human beings. In addition, one of our tenants of faith and a big part of our creed is that God has written everything that is going to happen. (There are different opinions about whether it includes possible realities and different choices a person can make or if God already knows what we would choose) But the idea of understanding the wind and moving within the framework of what you can control really resonated with me in regards to this point. Great video! Thank you very much! Edit: one biiiiiggg difference is the preservation of life and no sepuku 😂

I live for video essays of rich series I love and this did not disappoint! You’ve done an excellent job opening a new deeper layer to the show that I felt parts of watching and now see as a whole. Like many others, I’ll likely be rewatching, thank you!

Its hard to wrap your mind around service as liberation and acceptance of fate as the key to controlling your ego, both sound like oxymorons on the surface even if the implications are profound. But you did a great job of capturing the contradictions and central meaning of the shows choices.

Thank you so much for this reflection, and your compliments. I found it so fascinating to struggle with the contradictions of each of the characters.

This was fantastic but one thing that bothers me is that Blackthorne is essentially Toranaga's play thing. He has found purpose in service but i worry that its being abused?

@@ShowMeTheMeaning hmmm,... whoever did the set and costumes really understood the Azuchi-Momoyama era really well but it's tough to adapt a sack of pig offal novel,... eh?
