So I’m hear because I replaced a R/R my Yamaha r6 I cut the pig tale loom to the stator and just hardwired it to the R/R. Now my starter relay keeps blowing its 30amp fuse just from turning key. Will sometimes start and run for a min will blow fuse or wires will get really hot. Went through the harness found some shotty wiring jobs. Fixed a few spots with insulated butt connectors. Still to no prevail can not find what I assume is a short to ground somewhere. If you unplug. The R/R it’ll start up no problem won’t blow a fuse. Checked continuity on the stator and it has no grounds so I would assume it’s fine. Desperate for help thanks for reading this 😂😂

Is short to ground always on the positive side?
@carservicepro
@carservicepro Ай бұрын
Good question. The term "short to ground" is used for several reasons. One of the main reasons is that it indicates a situation where the positive wire is making contact with the ground somewhere in the circuit. Since the entire vehicle body serves as the ground and the battery's negative terminal is connected directly to the vehicle chassis, this creates a large exposed ground area. Typically, the positive wire is insulated and all fuses are on the positive side. Therefore, it is indeed possible for the ground to come into contact with the positive wire, especially within the circuit boards of vehicle computers, In this case there is short to positive and vice versa, I hope I answered your question!

I belive I have a short to ground in my bike, it keeps blowing my fuses. it's a 15a fuse. and as soon as I turn the key it breaks. from the key switch it runs a single wire that forks out to the starter fuse, the signal fuse and the ignition fuse. only the signal fuse blows, an the rest of the bike works find, headlight, highbeam, engine starts fine. with the fuse blowing I have no break light(but sign light and normally on rear light works) what does not work is the horn, the blinker(the relay for the blinker also does the starter, so when i Disconnected it i can't start the bike) and neutral light. Looking at the wiering diagram it's not that much it can be. but how would I actually find the short. i've tried with the cuntinuty on the mutimeter but i'm having no luck :/

While I may not be an expert in bikes, here's my approach: First, I'd remove the blown fuse. Then, I'd connect a test light between the fuse pins, where the fuse was placed. If there's a short present, the test light will illuminate or simulate the moment the fuse blows. The test light will remain on as long as the short persists. Next, I'd leave the test light connected and begin disconnecting components one by one until the light goes off. This will help pinpoint the source of the short. I hope this explanation proves helpful.

so a short to ground is when electricity takes a different path because wires could be touching? why does electricity taking a different path cause it to blow

Because of sudden high current pass through and this very much has to do with electrons, in normal circuit there always a resistance between negative and positive or a load, think of thunder lighting in the sky where you see spark, anyhow this is smart question you asked and it is on scientific level has to do with atoms!

Electricity(current) takes always the easiest path(with the lowest resistance). In first case with light bulb ,the flow of electrons(current) was transformed to heat and light.On 2nd case there was no consumer so the electrons moved in a closed circuit which create friction,then heat ,then fire.I hope my logic is correct and helped you
