A good tip for people getting sleep paralysis: When you feel you can't move just keep your eyes closed even when hearing creepy things etc because you can easily try to get back to sleep as long as you keep calm

That's what I do too. The moment I see the creepy figure I just close my eyes again. There was this time where I feel them shaking my bed aggressively. I literally thought there was an earthquake at first. I was about to scream and then I realized that I couldn't. I also tried to move but still can't. I closed my eyes then opened them again. That's when I saw the creepy lady in black standing beside my bed looking at me. I closed my eyes then tried to focus on how I'm going to wake myself up.

@travelguide8991guess I’ve always been lucky sleeping downwards when getting sleep paralysis. Last night however it was terror, for some reason i couldn’t sleep, I laid and tossed 3 hours without the ability to sleep, and around 4 I was so tired, but still couldn’t fall asleep, after one final positioning move I started to drift away, instead of feeling the urge to move i instead felt this heavy feeling, having had paralysis before I knew exactly what had happend, but stupid as I am I still tried to move and realized the horror of being stuck, i started to panic, it got harder to breath and I fought with my last strength. When I finally could move I immediately slumbered and got paralyzed again and everything repeated, it was like deva-ju. This happened 4 times before I got up and just felt dead and shaken to the core, I just sat up the whole night without being the slightest tired, when the sun came up I slumbered away. One part I left out for traumatically reasons was the 4th/last paralysis, which finally woke me enough to get up. After the third deva-ju I moved slightly up so I saw my window(and the darkly lit northern forrest) I can’t explain what it was but it was large evil and resembled a wendigo. I tried to scream but nothing happened, I swear it laughed and showed it’s teeth before it float away.

Abby Aguilar I've been having it for quite some time now , I cant remember exactly when it started but it has certainly been happening for a few years , and each time my reaction is different , sometimes I'm calm and just wait for it to go away , sometimes I panic and try as hard as I can to wake my body up , sometimes I don't even know I was having it until after I wake up , there are even when I'm just like "oh well here we go again" , nevertheless it's an eerie experience every time and it's hard to not think about it or just go to sleep afterwards

I’ve learned to control it over the years, first time I was just a baby boy and I truly remember how terrified I was, like you’re barely able to open an eye lid and see through. It’s an absolute awkward feeling but if you take deep breaths in between and as you exhale try to kick your whole body and usually it snaps out of it. But if you’re panicking and your hearts starts to race because you don’t know what to do , I believe someone who’s unhealthy can have a heart attack out of this .

How do you stay calm? I remember after I read that one should just try to stay calm until it passes. I tried, but it's sucha terrifying experience, I truly thought that if I didn't "fight" to wake up, I am going to die... I have started to try to bite my tounge, hoping the slight pain will be enough to wake me up. and then I have tp physically sit up (Even tho my whole body feels like lead), because I am too scared to fall asleep again...

I've suffered from sleep paralysis for as long as I can remember. It used to terrify me because I grew up thinking I was being haunted by a demon. Didn't really talk to much about bc I thought people would think I was crazy. When i did talk about it, I'd get the "it's just a nightmare." Usually the paralysis alone is scary bc I'd feel/see a presence and it would feel like it would put a hand on my chest, holding me still and knocking all the air out of me. One of the scariest episodes was when audio kicked in and i kept hearing a voice repeating non-stop, "kill yourself, you wanna die" as if it were trying to convince me to commit suicide. All I was able to do was lie there crying...then I'd repeat a prayer until it went away. When I finally searched the internet and came across videos like this, I was able to identify it. Now that I understand that it's no demon, it's occurred less. When it does happen, it's scary but not as terrifying as before. My wife can hear me trying to call for help when it happens, so she's able to wake me up. She's a keeper 😆

I am similar. I've found that during the "attack" i can control 2 things. One is my breathing. I can take deep breaths (most of the time) and the other is I can make sounds.....like moaning. My wife is under strict orders to yell, hit, shake, punch me, whatever it takes until I'm fully awake and able to move. I got a keeper too....over 43 years!

@@t-boneskillet1496 You sound as if you have the exact issue as I do. It's a terrible thing with which we have to endure. Other people don't see it, feel it and most haven't even heard of it...but we live with the possibility of it every night. Also I've found that some nights, if I go back to sleep too quickly, I fall right back into the same paralysis and THAT......oh that really is distressing. Fortunately that only happens like one in seven or so times. Hope you don't have that too. Thank you for responding. And my wife, yes, she is exactly the kind of woman I needed to marry and a true gift from God. (BTW, T-BoneSkillet is a great name!)

@Fireball XL-5 definitely very similar stories. I don't recall having it reoccur if falling back asleep too quickly. I'm happy to see that I wasn't alone in this. It’s a pretty scary experience. Regardless of what you see or hear you will be scared. It feels like when you pull on a seatbelt too fast and you can’t loosen it. It feels restricting and that’s normally how I realize I’m having an episode, the restricting feeling. The second you realize, however, a wave of just dread flows over you because you know something bad could happen. The buzzing sensation described can be explained for a few people. If you are able to make a rumbling noise in your head by closing your eyes that’s similar to the feeling during sleep paralysis. The buzzing only happens when you try to wake out of it though. I’ve had many episodes though so far I’ve been lucky enough not to have seen hallucinations. The most I’ve experienced is footsteps sprinting to my bed, and hearing voices speaking in reverse. When you have it the first time you will be terrified but you will know exactly what it is.

i've never experienced sleep paralysis, so excuse my ignorance, but how does it end? do you just abruptly wake up or go to sleep, does it end when a demonic creature approaches you and/or is about to hurt you (but it can't)? or none of what i just suggested. i'm quite curious

@@potassium-filledcreampuff To clarify you are already awake, you are just paralyzed. So it’s less of waking up and more of just getting out of a paralyzed state. For me, I have never tried to fall back asleep, I always attempt to get out of it. If you try to force yourself up it just gets worse, so I always just wiggle my toes and fingers until I suddenly jolt up and out of the paralysis. The hallucinations do effect you in some way physically but not because they are actually there, it’s like being in a dream, you can feel all the sensations even though you are just lying in your bed, so yes they can physically effect you and it usually happens in the form of something sitting on your chest or pushing on your chest. The hallucinations do not effect when/how you wake up. It’s pretty interesting to me but in the moment it’s horrifying 😅

it seems we have a pretty similar case, excepting the footsteps or hearing voices, what i've experienced this last year was mostly like buzzing whenever im in it or a low pitch scream-like noise on my ears, my heart rate also goes up like crazy but im never really scared, to this point i just learned to take it as a natural thing to happen and dont really mind it a lot, although some times it can get a bit scary, just today i had the worst so far, i was just about to sleep and then i paralized, i knew it happened again so i didnt really mind it, but then my heart rate went up instantly and the buzzing was really loud and i head the breathing but it was more like a suppresed scream, it was pretty bad and i actually felt scared, then my partner called out to me and i snapped out of it, i didn't tell anyone yet because i dont think it's worth it, perhaps i'll keep it as a horror story to tell my friends on a horror campfire story-telling session haha!

Ill usually struggle with keeping them open, almost like they are being dragged shut by something out of my control, but from there I just concentrate on moving whatever I have control of in rapid succession, which usually leads to me being able to break out of it completely. I would almost describe it as being completely encapsulated in quick sand. At first you can hardly move anything, but once you start struggling and moving against the quicksand, it creates space for more and more of your body to wiggle until you break free.

I used to get terrible sleep paralysis episodes nearly weekly during my entire first year away at college. Never felt the stereotypical “pressure on my chest” or “sleep paralysis demon”, but being fully awake yet unable to open my eyes or control my body was absolutely terrifying. It happened so much I eventually developed a method to get myself out of the paralysis-instead of immediately panicking when I’d “wake up”, I’d try to calm myself and count down from 10. I’d then pinpoint a specific part of my body (usually my big toe or index finger) and focus all my energy in trying to move that part. Eventually I’d be able to move it and slowly gain control of my body again.

Sleep paralysis is no joke. It makes you feel vulnerable and it’s terrifying. Sleep paralysis is different for every person that experiences it but here’s mine: I fall asleep then wake up. I can’t move, can barely breathe. My chest feels heavy and I can only turn my head. As I look to ny right where ny bedroom door is I can see a dark figure. I close ny eyes, praying to the gods and hoping it’ll jus go away. Then I here the light footsteps on my carpet in my room letting me know the figure is moving. It gets right in my ear and starts laughing and tells me to unalive myself (ik it might sound crazy but this happens most times I experience paralysis). Then I feel my chest tighten even more making it harder to breathe. When it’s finally over, I try to go back to sleep. But then it happens again. And I wake up. It’s a repeated process at least five times a night. My mom tells me if I don’t believe in it it won’t hurt me anymore. But no matter how much I try, it still bothers me. In my family, we call the figure “the hag”. The hag is very annoying when you’re trying to sleep and it won’t leave you alone. Sorry for the long comment but I’m jus sharing my experiences. Anyone have anything similar happen to them?

I just experienced sleep paralysis for the first time this morning while waking up. It was terrifying! So I’m trying to understand it better. I was sleeping and dreaming on my side/stomach with my back to my bedroom door, when suddenly my eyes popped open and I heard the very overwhelming, pulsing, high pitched ringing, as I was trying to make sense of what was happening to me I suddenly felt this crushing fear of a presence that I could not only sense but hear walk closer to the end of my bed. As I tried to roll over to try and look at whatever it was, that’s when I realized I couldn’t move at all just my eyes, which only intensified the fear. It was at that point I knew that I was in sleep paralysis. I have a cousin who has told me all about it because, it has happen to him since he was a little boy, he said it would happen 2-3 times a week! I couldn’t imagine! I was 100% sure that there was something there, I believe that once I knew that it was in sleep paralysis I quickly snapped out of it sitting up in bed gasping for air. Truly terrifying! I’m lucky I didn’t have any hallucinations of any entities. But I could definitely feel something behind me!

I tried to shout out but couldn't. Not sure if I did make a noise. I've recently moved into an old cottage so, on opening my eyes I had a good look around! Noone seen, thankfully. I did have a couple of minor, unexplained feelings of anxiety yesterday evening. I have never been diagnosed with any mental health issues nor have I ever taken medication for same.

If you’re struggling to find control when in sleep paralysis, WIGGLE YOUR TOES!! It always calms me down because I slowly start to regain movement from the feet up. It gives you a sense of control when you feel helpless, and it has been vital in helping me deal with sleep paralysis over the years.

Sleep paralysis is almost a common thing to me for the last 2 months. One thing I've learned from past sleep paralysis experiences is that to fully wake myself from my sleep paralysis is to force myself to breathe very deeply then release it and repeat it over and over for about 3 time or more until you can move one of your body parts (i'd recommend your finger/hand/arm) to lure my self to wake up and then you'll be concious again( based on my experience). I promised myself not to try to go with the flow and force myself to sleep at times like this, because when I had this sleep paralysis, I had to breathe manually(maybe this isn't the case with you), what I mean by manual is that I need to have the desire/will to breathe in my brain so that I can actually breathe (unlike when you are fully awake, you can breathe naturally unconsciously). Sometimes, when i focus myself to sleep during the sleep paralysis, I find my self forgetting to breathe, so the only option i have is to force myself waking up LATEST EXPERIENCE: recently I was trying to go with the flow and trying to let myself sleep but what happened suddenly I saw the white light fading and suddenly my ears heard a buzzing sound (take the flashbang sound in Counter Strike game since it is the closest to what I was experiencing) and it's getting louder and louder until it hurt then I forced myself to get up with a quick breath deep breath like I usually did before. That was my most recent experience ever 'till now. I'm speaking facts here based on my own experience, I haven't done any researches aswell so this just a pure impression of what you would be facing when you're in a sleep paralysis. So let's get in this together and raise this comment so maybe someone can get some research on this. It'll be good if i can hear your experiences aswell.

One night I was struggling to get any sleep, and not until about 1am was I able to doze off, but it only lasted a few moments, as I quickly awoke, I was afraid beyond my control and just felt something I couldn’t explain. There was a gust of colours overhead, unintelligible murmuring, noises, but I knew what it was, or at least it felt so. Imagine time is like a path you travel, walking along at a steady pace, everything easy to observe and given its fair time in your life, but at that moment it felt like time was a cliff face, and I was falling, fast, something more than just gravity pulling me to the bottom. I felt the world ending, eternities passing and universes starting and ending. The gust of colours turned into stars that formed constellations like no other, dancing, yet aggressive. It’s really just impossible to capture in words. But after looking into this all, i don’t know if it was any normal sleep paralysis, considering I was definitely awake. I could still move, infact I shut my eyes and buried into my pillow in fear, I told myself, audibly, “it’s just a dream, it’s not real,” over and over, before proceeding to pinch myself, i could feel it all the same as I could the sheets and cold air on my skin. I was awake, it only amplified my fear, and I turned away from my pillow and looking at it I wondered what was going on. I know it seemed so obvious, but when you’re scared for your life you can try to think straight, i finally realised it had to be sleep paralysis, and something about that realisation, the momentary certainty, it gave me the courage to just... sit upright. And everything when away. After that I was kind of blown away by the experience, it felt weird and though terrifying, refreshingly humbling. Until some research, I thought it was simple, cut and dry sleep paralysis, but since I could move and stuff, i’m now more confused. It was NOT a nightmare, i’ve had a lot of incredibly real-feeling nightmares before but they’d never come close to that. If anyone out there knows what this is i’d like to know, i’m interested to know answers, it was a real eye-opening experience.

This was my first ever SP experience, but also the most terrifying. The night I experienced it, I was laying in bed, staying up late when I knew I shouldn't be. All of the sudden my body went a little numb (I was still able to move tho) and it got very hard to breath. Earlier that day, I was eating a packet of chips, and it somehow fell down my bed without me knowing. So when I experienced SP I heard someone digging into that chip bag and When I turned my back to face the wall, I heard someone walking across my room the whole time. I couldn't move for a good 5 minutes, and when I tried to move it felt like I was going to fall or something. Once I was able to move, I grabbed my phone and messaged my parents to come into my room, but when I opened my phone to message them, my note pad app was oppen and somehow someone/something wrote a bunch of Z's in my notepad. That was the scariest night of my life. Of course, my parents didn't believe what I said, and I just slept next to their bed on the floor that night. I hope no one ever has to go trough SP. It's truly one of the scariest things a person can go trough. What it wrote: Z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z ź z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z zz z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z

Don't forget to mention the loud buzzing vibration that pulsates through you. If you try to move you end up having sensation of falling, rolling or floating out of body. From there you can go peacefully into a lucid dream. If I force myself to breath deeply that helps a tiny bit too. But usually you are too tired to breath like someone drugged you but your awake in a haunted house.

I had a similar one for 4 years! from 2014 to 2018. I woke up in a lucid dream from the fact that someone is digging in my spine. It was as if some energy was being led up inside the spine. I lay on my side on my bed while they did something. However, there was no feeling that I was in the physical world. One day I turned around and saw people dressed as laboratory assistants, but sometimes I saw just white haze behind me. I seemed to wake up in the dream (or in the astral plane) and one of them greeted me in the ear, and then they all together began to manipulate the spine. Sometimes I could move, but sometimes I couldn't. Either they did a back massage, then they stroked my head, then they seemed to clean something inside the back with a certain object, then they put some kind of apparatus on the heart, then they even put some kind of cone on my head and from this apparatus wires went straight to my ears, lifted me with some force above the bed for a better view of the spine. And once one of them even put pressure on my back (possibly to correct a vertebra), and under the influence of this force I was moved a little forward. And once I awoke abruptly, but some force still pushed me forward while I was lying on my side. I had already awakened, but the power was still moving me for two seconds! I was then shocked. And this happened almost every night. I don't know if it was sleep paralysis because in 50% of "their visits" I could move in bed. Once, when one of them was manipulating my spine, I said hello and asked - how are you? He replied - "Hi. Fine!" Then I extended my hand while lying on by bed his handshake was very firm. They were dressed in white coats and with headgear like doctors. However, they did not answer my other questions - who they are, where they came from, etc. They simply remained silent. However, I didn't care, it was all extremely interesting to me, even though they didn't tell me who they were. I didn't feel any hostility from them. It was an unforgettable experience.

I'm sharing my experience And how I deal with it.. At first, I was scared of this I was scared to go to sleep after experiencing it.. Sometimes I wished someone could just shook me up so that I get awake.. I was scared earlier, Because I didn't knew what was this.. But now after understanding it.. It Has helped me to deal with it better.. So now, when I get a sleep paralysis.. My mind knows it.. I say to myself , that you know this happens and it doesn't last for long.. Its just your mind thinks that you are dreaming so he just switched off your movement so that you don't hurt yourself lol😝.. So it calms me down a bit.. Then I try to move my fingers and eyes, hoping to break the sleep paralysis.. Sometimes it works Sometimes it doesn't.. When it doesn't.. I again get scared.. But I tell myself.. Don't worry.. Don't fight with it.. Just relax.. And then I don't try to fight it.. For some seconds.. And after that, I again try to make little movements, to give my brain signal that "hey.. I am awake..! Just turn on the movement switch lol.. I'm not dreaming " And vola.. I am out of it.. So next time.. If it happens with you.. Just remember that it is okay.. Don't need to get panic.. 😊.. Try to get enough rest.. Because it happens to me when I don't get enough rests lol..

A good way to wake up from that is to first be calm. Go back to the sleeping state by trying to close your eyes. And then try to wiggle your toes and fingers. From there try to move your hands and then arms and then just push yourslef to sit up. This way it dosent feel like a lot of effort

I used to experiment with this to the extreme while taking too many opiates! Sometimes to the point of not knowing if I was coming back……very scary but interesting at the same time.

I had this so much as a child. Pretty much every week, I'd keep calling for my mom after experiencing it. First rather silent, then louder until she came and turned the light on. Genuinely terrifying.

I pray too. It's because every time it feels like real life and I think I'm spiritually under attack. It feels so real. And it gets me through it. I've had worse ones that I can't put in to words.

Bris Squad4Ever When I sleep on my side it prevents me having sleep paralysis but if I’m on my front or back I tend to get it.

It usually happens to me whenever I try to go back to sleep after waking up, especially if I’m still really tired. Sometimes I literally can’t go to sleep for a while, because it’s just a cycle of entering sleep paralysis. I’ve thankfully never had any hallucinations or anything like that, I just get stuck feeling like I can’t breath. One time my lips were kind of closed together, and my nose was stuffed, so I was struggling to get oxygen. That’s the worst when that happens.

I first experienced it around 7-8 months ago. Now it has been almost a weekly occurrence. I didn't even know what it is called until now. It was terrifying at first. Now get used to it. from my experience when I take my mental and physical health practice seriously it doesn't occur. (such as good sleep, gym, meditation, etc.).
