My little sister is trans so as a cis gay man, I wear a pride pin and trans pin (in support of my sister) and I’ve been purposefully called a woman because of it even though I was born with a penis and do not look like a woman at all, beard etc. It baffles me when people go out of their way to be assholes for no reason. Also kissed my husband on the cheek once when we were parting ways in a shopping centre to get different things from different stores. Literally something I didn’t even think about, it wasn’t even a make out or anything just on the cheek and had a Karen have a go at me because “there are children around and they shouldn’t have to see that” Turned round and said, “Lady, we are married and I can kiss my husband if I want to.” And she called security on me for “abusive behaviour” lol I couldn’t stop laughing My husband kept calling me his little criminal lol

Aw! Gosh. I wish I had a supportive brother like you! And I'm mad at that Karen. She got mad over a couple doing the same thing straight couples do in public all the time, and some straight couples go over-the-top, especially at my university💀 If I had one wish I would remove all LGBTphobia from the world. I have no hope of coming out being from a devout catholic family, and I can't trust anybody (they WILL out me which will end in disaster). Whenever someone asks that, I say "How was I straight/cis at 4?" Cis at 4, they usually shut up unless they just come back with some blatant transphobia, but sometimes they do ask how I was straight at 4. Then I tell them kids have innocent crushes and if they're automatically thinking about sex when it comes to kids experiencing attraction to any gender at a young age, that's a them problem. Then they shut up.

One time my mom asked my homophobic aunt if she chooses to be straight. My aunt said "yes, I choose to be straight everyday." This in combination of a pan ex-mormon youtuber describing how he once assumed being gay was a choice because he could conceive of being attracted to men, makes me believe a lot of people who think sexuality is a choice are mostly people who are some variant of multisexual (bi, pan, queer, etc.) but are convinced everyone experiences attraction to multiple genders and most people just suppress certain sides of their sexuality

It could be because men who don't sit to pee are less likely to poop often enough for their bowel health. I am a super fair skinned white woman who lives in a predominantly black neighborhood. Most of my neighbors know me and know that I am cool and friendly with everyone. But when new people move in and see me walking my dog, it often takes a few hellos from me for them to see that I am not going to cause them any issues. They aren't being phobic of any type, they just don't know me, and don't know what my beliefs are. I just say "hi" to everyone and eventually they start to say Hi to me first. The problem with these particular straights saying that there is straight phobia, is that they are clearly homophobic. Therefore, the LGBTQIA+ community is going to avoid them like the plague. On the other hand, I have had a lot of gay and trans friends, so the LGBTQI+ community isn't going to be afraid of me. I may have had other friends who are part of the LGBTQI+ community, but unless they volunteer the information I don't ask. I would like to point out that opening up about your identity is not _just_ scary with new cishet people, especially if you're identity is occasionally considered invalid by LGBTQ+ members (eg. acearo, pan, bi, genderfluid, bigender, any xenogender that wasn't made up to make fun of trans people etc.) My Ma is literally trans and I still didn't come out to her about being genderfluid for a WHILE, she figured out on her own from my pfp on my email (parental control app had it very big) I /still/ don't want her to use my chosen name or pronouns because I straight up don't like her and want my identity to be a precious thing between me and my closest friends (other strangers just get to know my "safe" nickname and base level pronouns) I was afraid because of prejudice in the LGBTQ+ community, regardless of her saying she doesn't care who her kids like or what they identify as, some people say that but don't /actually/ mean it as a broad statement. My main example of it is biphobia and poly stereotypes within the LGBTQ+ community (my Ma is lesbian and poly having a polycule of 4 people) Most of this is not that important but I mostly just wanted to point out my statement from the beginning, prejudice within the LGBTQ community is really sad and makes it way more isolating than normal for people with those identities because they feel as if they no longer have a safe space they can rely on and are completely alone. Absolutely. Where I live it's changed a lot in the last 25 years though. But overall bigotry inside and between minorities/oppressed groups is super common as well as super sad. You'd think discriminated/oppressed people would understand not to do the same, but I do understand the reasons behind this. I mean reasons beyond the sad fact that being a minority or oppressed doesn't make you a good person 😑 As I said in the LGBTQ+ community it's so much better now than it used to be. But among and between ethnic and religious groups in my country it definitely isn't. There are some _incredibly_ intolerant people among them.

4:24 Barbara Coloroso, an author (& former Franciscan nun) who writes and speaks about parenting and bullying, said in an anti-bullying summit here in Vancouver "intolerance, bigotry & hatred cloaked in the garb of religion is *still* intolerance, bigotry & hatred." She also said something about the act of dehumanizing those who are different "it's about making somebody into an *"it"* and once you're an *"it"* to me, I can do anything to you." In saying that, she mentioned the Holocaust & the Rwandan genocide. It’s astounding what humans are capable of and how many atrocities are born from a hatred of the *"other."*

Yeah, the logic of "How can an 11-year-old know he's gay?" or "She's never slept with a woman; how does she know if she's a lesbian or bi?" has always confused me. Do homophobic people just forget about their childhood crushes?

Best response would be "How can an 11-year-old boy know he's straight?". After all, if a kid can't know whether or not they're gay, how could they possibly know if they're straight? If they're reasonable, they'll recognize it's a good point for obvious reasons. If they're unreasonable, they'll just fully expose their homophobic.

The problem with the MRA and MGTOW crowds is that yes, there are legitimate issues that specifically affect men, but they're completely ignoring those in favor of a persecution complex to justify their own sexism. Patriarchal values, for example, do harm men as well because they set unrealistic expectations while taking away the tools men need to deal with their emotions in a healthy manner. There's a discussion to be had about this, but it can't start with the assumption that, "Women gaining rights takes rights away from men."

Hey! Just wanted to say: about two days ago I came out to my mom as bisexual, and now everyone in my immediate family knows! I originally wanted to tell her first, but it didn’t go that way. Both of my parents are very conservative Christians, and they’ve discussed LGBTQ topics as a sin, or against God’s plan. I figured out I was bi when I went to my high school orientation and they were showing off the school cheer and dance teams, and I just saw the female dance team and was… very sure in that moment. I’d been questioning before but that moment made it very clear to me I was also attracted to girls. About a year later I told my younger siblings first, with my sister being very supportive and my brother constantly forgetting any time I mention something casually bi to him. Like, “hey, I think dad suspects that I’m bi.” “What’s bi?” “It means I like girls and guys and people who are both or neither.” “Ok.” And then it repeats. But anyways, I ended up telling my dad after getting into a fight with my mom and feeling more open with him. He’s definitely the more old-fashioned and while he was… supportive, per se, he was very adamant it’s likely a phase and on the topic of trans people, he keeps misgendering them purposely, but… I’ll keep talking to him about it. That was all last year, and two days ago I told my mom after having a breakdown in school and talking with the school social worker, confessing I’ve been feeling passive su*cidal thoughts. My mom ended up picking me up and we talked about that in the school social worker’s office, and on the drive home we had a sort of heart-to-heart and I worked up the courage to finally tell her. She’s been more accepting than I expected, though still insistent I not tell my younger siblings (in elementary school) about this, since apparently LGBTQ topics are too mature for them. Even though they’ve been the least problematic. She still thinks they don’t know I’m bi, which is fine, It’ll come up sooner or later. But I’ve been super excited because now I can tell the rest of my extended family (they’re not religious and are all accepting, but before I was afraid if I’d told them they would out me to my parents accidentally). I’ll be having a chance to talk with some of my cousins soon, and I’m excited! I’m hoping I can get comfortable enough with my parents that I can buy some pride merch that I can wear on my backpacks and stuff casually, so fingers crossed! (Idk this was more of a long story sharing comment but I wanted to tell someone bc I don’t really have any irl friends I can talk to about something this close) Anyways be queer pet dogs 💖💜💙

I have been accused of heterophobia in the past and it is a badge I wear with honor. Would y'all like to know what I was doing that was so discriminatory? My coworker was a creep who would not only sexually harass his female coworkers, but would flirt with customers in the drive thru, read their full names off their debit cards, and look them up on social media later. I tried to report him or request a different person to be scheduled to work with me, but management was complete garbage. So, I attempted to Pavlov him. I started pretending to crush on the same customers as him. Would shove him out of the drive thru window & be extra sweet with them. I'd give our coworkers he was harassing some emotional support & an ego boost. Before long, I became *very* popular with all the women he was harassing. He thought it was a hate crime against straight people that I would not let him "flirt" with any of these women. Because I wouldn't let him cyber-stalk them by reading private info & I would act as a bodyguard for my coworkers so he wouldn't try to stare at or take photos of their asses when they werent looking. (Which, yes, he did to a 17 year old once & management claimed they couldn't fire him because he could sue for wrongful termination.)

I notice that a lot of things that conservative Christians say to tear down the LGBTQIA community are actually things that apply to Christianity, not being queer. “It’s a choice!” “It’s hurting people!” “People are forcing their kids into it!” “It’s not scientific!” All things that aren’t true about the LGBTQIA community, but that often do apply to conservative Christianity

On the straight and lgbt representation, I’d like to point out that often characters very rarely say “I’m straight” flat out. They are just assumed canonically straight because straight people are the default. I think I’ve only heard like one character actually say they were straight in a show. Headcanoning a character with no actual canon sexuality is ok. It’s normal, for a lot of lgbt people we don’t get the representation like straight people, we don’t get default, natural representation. The thousands of characters that just seem straight because their attraction is only brought up in the other gender doesn’t necessarily mean that they only like that gender. My personal example for a character like this is Bob from Bob’s Burgers, he seems straight, has a wife and kids, but he is bisexual. Often times our perceptions of sexuality in media is left to personal interpretation because creators are too scared to ever confirm anything.

Rei Daniels, exactly! People often think that characters must either be explicitly gay to be well, gay. But often times certain measures must be taken, so they end up seeming straight, which sort of furthers the whole “well lgbt people can head canon anyone!” when really a character has always been queer coded, but due to safety for the show, can not be confirmed :(

I was assuming that the statement was about fanfic. And in that case, it’s sort of true, especially among straight authors and readers who fetishize gay characters. It’s a trope called “Het is Ew.” It gets super old. If it’s about regular media, yes, that’s 100% true. There’s not enough representation. I want to see more ace representation, especially. But BL fans who aren’t real allies in real life, they’re jerks, especially when they dogpile other fan writers. I don’t see the point in writing a canonically queer character as cishet. I’ve never done it. It’s the people whose headcanons are outraged that worry me. They get fucking intense. Fun fact: I was asked to be on a fanfic panel about shipping. I didn’t even think of myself as a romance author, and when I got there, I was introduced as the only person on the panel who wrote cishet romance. And it was weird! I didn’t go out of my way to write cishet romance. I just liked to write those specific characters! I loved reading plenty of queer romance. And I acquired fans who thought I was conservative because I was writing a male and female character, and geez, it was strange. As long as they don’t stalk you, you’re fine.

As a trans person who has been in social transition for 8 years, 3 or 4 years of being on HRT (I forget lol) i find it weird that someone can say they are supportive but then in the next sentence, they discriminate against the same thing. I saw a comment on one of Jamie's shorts from someone who said and I quote " I'm happy for you but don't join the Olympics in your chosen gender as it's unfair for the rest of us". 🙄. They were basically dredging up the topic of when a trans female joined the women's team (as she's right to do so) and saying that she can't compete because she's "biologically a male " and it wasn't be fair because she won the medal. So much hate. It's more likely that we are the ones to be SA'd or attacked because of who we are than non LGBT persons. People just like to cause drama where there's no need. I feel like anyone complaining about trans woman in sports is insecure and a bit of a sore loser, someone has to win cisgender or trans and not everyone will be happy with the winner. I hate sports because not everyone can accept that and get over it, maybe they need to improve if they want that trophy. Womens sports has evolved into something extremely toxic. Even my cis sister won a sports trophy and some other kids said she didn't deserve it. Edit: another thing I remember is people are confused about Mack Beggs a trans man being in a womens wrestling league, since he's not allowed to compete with men. Its a very conservative way to think and does bring harm to not only trans people but cisgender people as well, since a lot of cis woman have testosterone anyway, and the requirements would stop people with PCOS from competing.
