The 5.11 tactical backpack Rush model that they showed comes in three sizes: Rush 12, 24 and the 72 being the biggest..... I have the Rush 24 that holds 33 liters, I used it one time to go grocery shopping and I was able fit everything in it..... Almost a whole cart actually fit in side, It was like playing Tetris, everything fitted though without needing extra bags.

Damn the spacers on the padding of the Bandit pack already justify the price in my eyes. Can't tell y'all how many times having those hot ass pads on a full pack made any march/hike much more tedious.

Would recommend the Tasmanian Tiger 30L modular. It had laser cut molle on the outside, open all the way up, velcro all over the inside, top inner and outer section, holes for a camelbak hose, water resistant, highly adjustable straps, and optional “waist support belt”. The point of it is that tasmanian tiger sells modular parts, which you can attatch to the velcro, and make it all more compartmentalised (or use any velcro additions). Great video btw👌

i bought a 5.11 Rush 24 pack a number of years, i think 5 or so now, and still using it for work to this day. Yeah it screams " military, thank you for my service". But they definitley thought about the Rush Series and is of course limited to really being a day pack. the actual straps the top part of the fabric has been ripping apart a little bit over wear and tear of me using it almost daily. But definitely a good bang for your buck

I've used a number of assault packs for basic everyday carry. By far my top three favorite, so far, have to be the medium ALICE. I typically use this without the frame but I do like the space it provides in the main compartment as well as having the three outer pockets. I use it mostly when I grocery shop. The 5.11 Rush mentioned here I will always have a soft spot for, it was one of my first actual assault packs I purchased when I started making money after I graduated from high school. I went with the Multicam pattern and I modified it so I could carry my longboard on it at the time and it worked well! When I first started getting into everyday carry, I had the tendency to overpack my packs, so I would always return home with lower back pain. I no longer have it, but if I had the opportunity to buy it again, I would totally jump on it. Currently I use the USGI assault pack in the three color desert pattern. Found this at my local surplus shop for $30. I'm learning something new about it everyday and so far I have been enjoying it. For the price, I couldn't beat it. And the desert camo is just nostalgic to me.

There is this german brand, MilTec, that sells a very popular assault pack for 40 bucks. I don't know if it sells in the US, but I use it and it's great. Now, it's cheap for a reason, it's polyester, not nylon, and I don't know if that's automatically a no-no for some people, but for civilian mountain use it might be enough.

@@zakkbrown9522 I suppose it depends on where you live. Like Cam and Izzy, I live in Los Angeles County and you would be kind of conspicuous if you carried a military style backpack around. For work, I like to carry a laptop around and having a pack that kind of stands out would make you a pretty good target for thieves. Also, the company I'd like to go back to, Activision-Blizzard/Microsoft, they always give me a nice laptop to work on, and I'd hate to lose it because someone stole my pack because it was so noticeable.

@MisterNi

@@30ART5 I looked a few up and some do come in Coyote Tan but that color still says military to someone who knows what an assault pack looks like. I'm sure some do come in gray or black as tactical versions but an assault pack still looks pretty different from a backpack that most people use as daypacks. I know some veterans do want to be recognized in civilian life as vets but many of us don't as that comes with a lot of assumptions and stereotypes about what military people are like. If I did want to be recognized as a vet then I could do so at appropriate times and places by wearing my uniform and showing off my awards and medals (My wife is holding on to those 🙂). All other times of the year, that's my past and I need to look to the future instead. 🙂

I just bought a surplus USMC FILBE assault pack. I paid less than $40 for it, but I had to partially restitch a shoulder strap. Its made by Eagle Industries so its very well made. It looks like it will hold a lot. I like the water resistant zippers. Its also made to work with body armor and I just happened to have a surplus USMC Eagle Industries plate carrier that goes with it. For my EDC bag I use an old school M81 camo Camelbak Mule. I bought it back before M81 was back in fashion. Its a great little EDC truck bag. It has molle so you can add on to it if needed. I put in a level IIIA ballistic panel where the bladder used to sit. I also have a version in black if I need something less "tactical" looking than woodland camo.

The helmet is crucial, let no one say otherwise, but why not carry it ON YOUR HEAD?! So I have two points to make. First, even though you want to carry everything you need for anything that may happen, having your equipment outside your bag, possibly in your pockets, is just as important as having extra space for items you happen upon. Don’t want that turtle on your back, or anyone making TMNT cracks. Second, I gotta wonder what the significance of the modern combat helmet actually is. Sadly, the most useful thing I ever saw out of the WW2 helmet was it’s use as a shovel, but helmets are like pants; they have existed forever. Is there a better one out there? Do old ones actually help keep you alive? Care to shove your ‘War Wallet’ in some new futuristic bucket of a hat?! 😁
