Dr. Karam is a firm believer that skincare is a lifestyle, and that includes your diet. What kind of diet will give you the beautiful, youthful glow you're looking for, though? Dr. Karam is breaking down what you NEED for beautiful skin, and where to find and add these things into your diet. With countless dietary trends floating around, a lot of us do wonder which one is best for our skin. In reality, none of the dietary fads directly address skin health, but are more focused on weight loss. What Dr. Karam reveals to us is that at the end of the day, there are aspects of all these diets that are good for your skin. Our diet provides the building blocks our body uses for overall health, including our skin, which is the largest organ of the human body. Whether you are following a specific diet (vegan, paleo, keto, etc.) or not, it is vitally important that you ensure you are getting all the nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants and more, that your body needs. You can strictly rely on your diet, or use supplements, but the bottom line is that your body requires these things in order to be healthy and functional.

I'm in my late 30s and friends and random compliment me on my smooth and radiant skin ALL OF THE TIME! Before I even watch this video I can tell you that healthy skin is more about what you PUT INTO your diet than what you take out. Sure, avoiding ultra processed sugary/salty/fried food as much as you can is a MUST, but eating LOTS of raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds is what keeps my skin and hair glowing... also the reason why I cannot get away from highlighting my hair every month (my hair grows crazy fast!). Also, SPF 50 every day, 2 litres of water, daily workout and nightly retinol. You're welcome!

completely agree with you. lots of raw plant based foods and lots of fluids does help keep good skin. I am 47 but look like i am in my 30's. ive quit sugar and dairy for quiet some time and have replaced my calcium needs with Sesame seeds and coconuts. also I have a seed mix which is a mix of pumpkin, sesame, flax, sunflower melon seeds and I add a few spoons of fennel seeds and dried dates to this mix to make it even more nutritious. I eat about 2-3 spoons of this mix everyday. I eat a lot of different kinds of millets too in various forms. this helps eliminate carbs from rice and wheat and other glutenous grains. another very nutritious grain to add in your diet is Horsegram. it has the highest protein content of any other grain. soak and let it sprout. then steam it for about 30 mins. you may just add some seasoning to this and eat or add it to soups or salads.

Sane for me at your age, however not getting the complete proteins and amino acids will catch up to you..especially when you hit menopause..the bottom drops out when your hormone levels drop. It happened to me. However now that I've incorporated clean animal protein back into my diet with micronutrient blood panels to see specifically what nutrients I lacked so I could supplement appropriately , HRT ..and medical grade skincare, reitnols my skin much improved.was able to reverse some of that aging as well as slow it down and my skin keeps improving

I agree sugar is the culprit. 20 years ago, I gave it up along with liquor (which I never liked much anyway) and began to look and feel younger. I like the idea of a well balanced diet that includes all Dr Karam mentioned here. It’s common sense.

I gave up on meat around 20 years ago. Like you, I have never regretted my decision. For alcohol, I knew from a very young age it would put me in troubles. Sugar is my only demon left. The more balanced my diet, the less I crave. But I still will have my moments, I'm afraid. 😭😭😭

Important correction..veganism isn't a diet. Veganism is a lifestyle based on ethics and the belief that animals should not be harmed or exploited by humans. So you can be vegan and eat loads of vegan junk food (unhealthy) or you can be vegan and eat for health with a predominantly whole foods plant based diet. I have never looked or felt better since switching to the later 💚🌱

I know no vegans o vegetarians who do that for health purpose. People with that motivation stop it eventually like they stop any other diet from which they expect miraculous weight loss or other benefits.

I've been, paleo, keto or carnivore for 15 years. I go out in the sun, I did a lot of extreme weather sports. I'm 38 and people often think I'm 30. I'm not advocating baking in the sun, but high protein, high quality animal based diet did me right. I also mainly ate dark berries and cooked veggies rather than more sugary fruit or raw veggies. Later on I supplemented liver and fish eggs often. Also i cured chronic migraines, got rid of my PMS, and naturally conceived two kids on the first try over the age of 36,... just a related side note.

This is absolutely false. Like soooooo bad haha. Please do adequate research following credible studies and credible scientists. A carnivore diet ages you faster at rates I’m scared to tell you. Eating a plant based diet slows down the aging process and that’s why you can be 35 and still get id’d for being under 18. This is sad aha. You could have looked so much younger if you took care of yourself.

Therapist helps with mental issues but when you start going through menopause there is some depressed feelings of looking old when you see how much you have changed. I had a business, everything and it was stolen away in divorce and I use to get facials, laser, still use good product but nothing can really fix aging from menopause like surgery. Not everyone can afford surgery. I wish I could have my eyelids done and neck and jowels fixed that would help me feel better after losing everything I had worked so hard to build to theft.

I went to my dermatologist this morning for a follow up from my VI-Chemical Peel and I asked about rf microneedling as the next step for treating my acne scars. She told me I wasn’t a candidate for rf microneedling for two reasons: 1) because I’m dark skin and at risk of hyperpigmentation and 2) my skin does not have any laxity issues. She then said my skin was young. That just made my day because I’m 40 (although my skin is still acne prone). I am so glad I started using tretinoin in my 20s in addition to sunscreen, but amped up my skincare routine in my early 30s when I began using vitamin C serums, peptide serums and exfoliating weekly with glycolic acids. Turns out having acne did some good for me after all.

My routine is identical minus the fruits (just don’t like the sweetness). Sleep, eating meats and religiously applying sunscreen made a huge difference in my skin. Additionally, quitting alcohol last year basically made my skin age backwards. Also, for whatever reason at 42 my body started craving bone broth and cartilage. I could never stand it until then. I’m turning into my parents. Next stop will be cracking the bones and sucking out the bone marrow 🫣😂

Really helpful video, thank you so much. Could you do a follow up and talk about *quantities* and *doses* required. I know this will vary by body weight, gender, health status, medications, age, etc but just some general guidelines, eg: say, for a healthy 50 year old 150 lb female body, how many mg of vitamin C, how many berries a day, etc? That would be so helpful!

When I was vegan I found I ate so much healthier.. no processed food, no junk food, way more vegetables, beans, nuts and avocado.. hardly any bread or pasta.. I felt great and my skin looked the best it ever has!! It’s strange realising that some vegans don’t have such a healthy diet. I found that most or all processed foods contained dairy and also contained sugar. I believe it was the no sugar plus the greater variety of whole, unprocessed foods that made me feel and look better than ever. I’ve been considering going vegan again, mostly because I hate animal cruelty, but struggle (maybe selfishly?) with wanting to make sure I’m incorporating all the nutrients I need for anti-aging..🫤

Doc, you're always the best!! Thank you so so much! I have a diary with all your suggestions. I'm quite young now, I'm 23, and I have a really good skin, a little bit dry but really smooth and without any imperfection. Maybe I'm genetically lucky because my mom who has 57y.o has no wrinkles. Anyways I'll follow all your tip and my mom and my grandma too, we're all your big fan. Unfortunately we don't live in U.S.A, or we should be your patients for sure! Thank you again. Simple , clear and straight to the point! Amazing!

I couldn’t agree more. I used to live in France for few years and I have noticed that the people there are aging very well - have a good skin, are healthy and attractive, their diet is based on animal products, they eat tones of butter, cheeses, meats and fish on daily basis Just a little observation
