Cheers to the Fox ! Great to see a high handicapper on screen hitting some balls, taking some studio lessons. As a long-time slice fighter myself, the best advice I can give is to keep using the Driver on the course but be more strategic with it. What I mean is, just tee the ball on the right hand side of the tee box, pick a target about 200 yards down the left hand side. If it slices you're in the middle of the fairway; if it goes straight you're on the left side (but in bounds). Its more useful to have a "consistent miss" than "inconsistent success".

Very timely. Changed my Big Bertha Driver to a draw setting and added 5 grams to the weight rearward. Straightened out my slice to a push or straight. Picked up 5 yards over after hitting 40 or so range balls. I am 73 with an 82 mph swing so it worked for me pretty well.. good stuff thanks

I don’t have an official handicap, but I shoot in the mid to high 90’s at my local course. When I started golfing again, I couldn’t hit a driver to save my life. After a month of searching, I bought a taylormade R1 driver for $25 in great condition. My settings that helped me were 11 degrees of loft, draw bias weights, and 1 degree closed due to issues with slicing. After about 6 rounds of golf and a few trips to the driving range; I’m now currently at standard lie, 10.5 degrees of loft, and still draw bias for the weights. At the moment I average around 285~290 for total driving distance. The slice is gone thanks to improving my grip and slowing down my tempo. Once I improve my short game, I’ll hopefully be in the 80’s. Cheers from Texas!

Great video James..a few things that could help your buddy..1..his loft should be 10.5...easier to hit and add height. 2..he is turning his hand right from the take away..which should be more extension then lift..3..he is coming right out of the swing on the down swing. Get him to stay low and really fire the right hip quicker!!

Rolling wrists too much on take away, causing club face to open more. Need to tell him to have the back of his left hand should be facing towards to sky as opposed to out towards the fairway, it will help keep the club face closed through impact. Great vid mate!
@phildiegidio46584 жыл бұрын
These new clubs with the adjustable heads create a problem for those that use the grips with the grip minder in them. As soon as you change your club head position, you have messed up the grip minder position. I only use round grips for that reason. My Driver, 3 Wood, 5 Wood, and Hybrid are all adjustable to some degree. The Driver has the most settings, and down to the Hybrid that only has 1 changeable setting. You get it. Good Luck Foxey getting rid of the right side shots. We all get that.

Finally someone like us ! My Golf Spy recommended a Subzero driver in 2019 for slow swing speed golfers, what would be the rationale for that ?
@jacobgoodman63464 жыл бұрын
Aart van der Molen I would guess they did that because if you are slicing the ball a low spin driver would decrease the slice although the sub zero is typically harder to hit so I am not totally sure why they would recommend that.

Thanks for the video and I hope that you are both well and staying safe. Looking at Fox's takeaway he seems to be fanning the club open at the very start of the takeaway move. I suspect that if he tries to keep the face of the club looking at the target for longer in the initial takeaway he will stop the fanning and straighten out his Ball flight.

James could you of moved the weight entirely from toe and put both into heel? Also adding loft on most drivers closes the club face as well. Would help to reduce spin and start it a bit more left.

The lad's got some raw strength... He's quite literally smashing the ball out to the 200 mark without using 75% of his body. It's easy to see that he should be knocking on 300's door soon once the rest of his body loosens up and does some work.

I struggled with this for a long time after I got my first adjustable driver. I did not get fitted, and was trying to do it myself. I just have the hosel adjustments for loft, draw and fade. The weight in the bottom is fixed. I am most consistent on 10.5 standard. But I have a mental thing going on where I tend to tee it up to high, but it I tee it lower I instantly start hitting the ground with the head. So I am trying to play it at 9 standard. When I adjusted either draw or fade into it, my shots became very erratic.

I'm a high handicapper, and I know that adjustable weights technically don't make a difference. That being said, when I've gone club shopping, I almost always try out drivers and whenever I get one without the ability to put a draw bias in, I don't seem to hit it well. I've put it down to the placebo effect, the adjustment puts my mind at ease a little bit, which gives me one less swing thought.
@jaybyrne45624 жыл бұрын
Seems a bit crazy tinkering with settings at the mo. As an 11 hcap, I find that my swing varies wildly from day to day so I just leave my driver alone and try and work on getting more consistent. But, horses for courses as they say. If it helps, why not? But I feel like he'll be changing settings every week as he develops.
@garydavis82134 жыл бұрын
That grip alignment would make me crazy. Fox is really tall and long armed. He’s got 300 in there somewhere. He’s very stiff, I assume because he’s afraid of just flat missing the ball. I’d like to see him just cut loose and hit it as hard and as fast as he can a few times.

Shaft flex is dependant mainly on swing speed. For example, swing speed between 90 and 105 mph requires a stiff shaft. Below that: regular, above that X flex.

James, I like you and I like your channel, but I think you missed the plot a little here. In my opinion a high handicapper should not even have an adjustable driver. If he's hitting everything right (more a timing/syncing issue than anything else), don't change the driver settings, but (as a quick fix) strenghten his left hand grip. No disrespect, but swinging like this, the only way he hits 260 is downhill with gale force wind in his back...😉
@marcsimmonds54834 жыл бұрын
Pro watches beginner spray the ball all over the place but mainly right with his driver, notes that technique change will be reserved for a later video. Pro makes adjustments to beginner's driver. Dispersion is reduced fairly dramatically. Next.
