Dan Lok *One of the the reasons why I started Martial Arts* is that I noticed in our country, that it is dying. *Martial Arts is dying.* *1 out of 30* people don't even know our national Martial Arts. I dream of making *Martial Arts be alive again,* to show the our community and if possible our country the deadly grace of Martial Arts. On how it even got the word *"Art"* in it and its meaning. I'd do that by starting up a Martial Arts school some day in the future.

+Dan Lok To respond to what you said about most people not being attacked I`ve been beaten up at least 4 times, one time when I got beat up was when I was 15 years old and got into a school fight the guy grabbed me in a head lock and rammed my head into a wall the most recent assault was in 2006 a guy of Somalian descent stabbed me next to my groin with a broken bottle and broke my jaw! Another film study channel said boxing style punches are more powerful than other martials arts style of punching like the reverse punch isn`t as powerful as a boxers right cross if thrown correctly.

Hi Dan, I recently found your videos and I am very impressed by the concise way you explain and demonstrate. It really shows that you gave deep thought to how you practice and what you teach. I wholeheartedly agree with you, this is how martial arts are meant to be practiced in our age. I also found that the greatest benefit martial arts brought to my life is the calm state of mind, to stay calm in unexpected situations life throws at you in every area of your life. I never had to lay hand on anyone, but have I not learned martial arts, me and several of my friends and strangers caught in tough situations on the streets would not be safe and alive today. I have a solid Wing Chun background (Leung Ting Wing Tsun learned in Hungary), and after a long pause (absorbed in work) I started practicing and teaching a few friends in the US. For those viewing youtube videos on Wing Chun and looking for concise material, I have highest recommendations for Dan's videos in case you want to learn more on what works, what does not and why. Dan, keep on posting your videos, you are doing a great service to the present and future martial artists! Thank you!

Dan Lok Dang man, I watched a few of your martial arts videos. And I enjoyed them.. but didn’t subscribe. There are tons of martial artists in KZbin. However, I watched this interview, and THEN I subscribed. Excellent interview, excellent outlook! I hope someday I will earn just a fraction of your success.

Thank you Dan for inspiring me to get back to training. I’ve studied and trained different styles since I was 11yo. Now at 56, I know I just don’t bounce back as good as I did at a younger age. Makes me ask myself- am I able to execute without the training? Obviously the answer is no! Your videos give me the motivation to get back to training needed to continue my desire of the Martial Arts. I appreciate the detail you include in your videos, that teach you how to properly work on mastering a technique!

*I wanted to learn Martial Arts* simply because I have NEVER ever felt the feeling of *winning* in a fight. *I'd ALWAYS lose* whether it be street fight, one-on-one, boxing match, taekwondo match and others. People would challenge me just to beat me up. It is *demoralizing.* I'm dying to know what it feels like to be *strong,* so I started searching for the best Martial Art possible. Then I remember that my Father gave me Bruce Lee's book, *"The Tao of Jeet Kune Do"* which was also given to him by his brother and so I started reading. That book not only changed the way I look at *principles of Martial Arts* but also in *life.* *Jeet Kune Do is explosive,* an *offensive art.* To finish the fight as *quickly* and as *simplistic* as possible. I liked that idea. And so I started practicing. With the *help of your videos* and other KZbinrs as well, I got to expand my knowledge on the *Art of fighting.*

I have got to admit, these contrasting styles of video make this channel so refreshing. I first came to this channel by the paper punch video, but now the channel has inspired me to really push my self in London in business. I'm organising my first executive level seminar only 1 or 2 weeks after finding this channel. Thanks, Dan, really looking forward to meeting you in person one day.

I find your videos clear, concise, instructive and inspiring. I've been a fan of Bruce Lee's philosophy, art and approach to life for a long time and it's nice to get insight into such techniques as trapping that the KZbin format allows. Hi 老师, I'm really happy watching this video and listen to you speaking about Martial Arts. It's pretty important to know who is speaking, who is making the video and what is his feeling. I never use to speak about my passion of Martial Arts on my videos but about other passions like Natural Farming (Masanobu Fukuoka) and Sumi-e. But in fact, all my passions are linked by simplicity and what we call in France "l'amour du geste" (love of gesture, in English ?). I'm really happy finding your channel on KZbin, I will show it to my son. He's my only one studient :) He loves Wing Chun and Bruce Lee. I'm not going to explain you my life but I just want to tell you that Martial Arts saved my life not because of a fight, but helped me to overcome a very difficult moment. Thanks for sharing your videos.

I have never commented on ANY KZbin video before in my life. I have been watching your videos because I'm considering getting back into martial arts despite some disability. But this one is the best one I have seen so far. Thank you for the insights, because I was analysing why I want to get back into it, and I concluded it's not for reasons of self defence even before I saw this. You pretty much validated here all the conclusions I had been coming to. I have bookmarked this video to use as a reminder.

Nihao; I stumbled across your videos by accident I must admit. You're JKD demo's peaked my interest as I too am a fan, (yes I know, cliche), but I must say you have demonstrated some of the worthier components very well. Fundamentally the study of Martial arts in my opinion, is in effect the study of self and I was most interested to hear you say something similar, which is what spawned the desire to comment. I read a book on Ninjutsu many years ago where I was somewhat surprised to see the emphasis that it made on the point of '...master of his environment..' , the book made great attempts to emphasize that this did in fact mean his 'environment'. Not just "I am Ninja fear me because I am a master of death'. but master of his ENVIRONMENT. That included, farming, cooking, laundry, cleaning, etc.. I believe that the point the author was trying to make was similar to your point of 'knowing your self'. To be a true martial artist is in fact to know and understand ones environment, and the effects we have on it, either through action or inaction, and that as a martial artist we should consistently be trying to improve our selves in order to improve our own understanding of said environment. I have not seen your business videos and to be frank I have no interest in them. That 'world' has no meaning to me. I will however say that you do seem to have the spirit of a teacher, and exemplify that which is most important as an instructor, the joy of passing on knowledge to an interested audience. Please do continue following your passion, you do it very well.

👋🏻 help Sifu, I'm lost here. I've been training Jun fan gung Fu (original Jkd as you would call it) and i always wanted to do this from when i was 12...i grew up with Bruce Lee's movies, And fight animé. Now, my Sifu is trying to get me into His personal "style" which he formed through applying the jkd philosophy (concept), and keeps on evolving. But when i watch it, i feel nothing but boredom...it looks just too modern and i don't like it. I like the old, i feel so calm and confident about it. My Sifu tells me it was efficient, in the 70s but not now anymore because martial arts have evolved, and Jun fan gung Fu/original Jkd didn't because Bruce Lee died. I understand i can apply concept on Jun fan gung Fu : discard what is useless for me (spin kicks because mine are slower for now) I'm at a loss here...is this true ? Is original not efficient anymore ?

Yeah, that´s exactly what I think about martial arts Dan! It´s so sad ,there seams to be no respect and honour anymore in ma,when you see for example certain guys in WC,claiming to be "grandmasters",beating up old real grandmasters "out of the blue"in their school and call that "victory in a challange fight"(you know, that turkish guy...!),I hate that ! In the end it´s all about good health, fitness,SD when you (or family, friends)are "back against the wall"! And the deepest core is overcomming you ego-so it´s a SPIRITUAL PATH,maybe even longer than your life on earth ! (a little bit about me,I trained WC/WT,JKD and escrima for many years ,I was never looking for "challange fights",also I had some "sparring fights-gone out of control"l-I would call them real fights !And I won them, that was enough for me and today I´m 52 ,also in the businesswold as a successfull trader (stocks and options )with no ambitions anymore to be a"real fighter" and all that "macho stuff"But I still love Bruce Lee and all the old "action movie heroes! So good luck to you with your business and on your "path of self-perfection"! Thomas Otto (from berlin, germany)
