I did it! My husband and I share an office in our home and it has limited options since there is a huge double door, two windows, and a closet. To make the most space, we had our desks against walls and in corners with our backs to the door which leads straight to the front door. After seeing your videos and talking to him about it, we moved our desks facing each other, side under a window on the wall, and so now we both have mostly walls behind us. We both have a clear view of the office and front doors when we look to the side. It feels not only much safer, but much cozier and makes us feel more connected because even though we still cant see each other because of our monitors, we aren't with our backs to each other anymore. It truly does feel like a more focused office space for me as well. I wasn't sure I believed in the magic of Feng Shui, but now I am a believer.

I never believed in fengshui growing up but one day in a cafe I realized that I was so much productive and it was probably because of the positioning of my table, based on your videos. I moved my home desk and I have been converted!

Very nice! I was born and have lived in the USA for all my life and have been trying to practice this ever since my late teens and early 20s, before I even knew what it was called! For me the thoughts were always about lowering the chance of startle as much as possible. Same with bedroom and living/family room arrangement. I love it!

The problem is cable managment. It is much easier to hide cables when desk is placed in front of the wall. L shaped desk might be a good solution, but still it's a challenge
@Reinreith

I mean, zip ties, adhesive cable guide, get a small long bookshelf for in front of the desk/side, which also elongates the desk depth for more arm room/storage, or get like a mini fridge to slip under the side facing the door if your leg room is wide enough to hide the wires and have refreshments when you take a break and are stretching, but isn't RIGHT there for constant snacking

Couldn't you just cover the front of your desk? Either with a bookshelf or, if there isn't space for that, with a blanket hanging in front of the desk. That would hide the cables and also create some visual separation of the working area from the rest of the room. Just my layman thoughts, tell me if you disagree!

I used your advice for my office at work. We were rearranging furniture, and I insisted both desks in the room face the door and not the wall like previously designed. Then I had a choice of desk: large desk right opposite the door, but with back to the window or smaller desk to the left of the door back to the wall. I sat at both and chose the smaller desk - it felt safer and cozier, no glare from windows on my screens, and I can enjoy the view out the window! so happy.

Thank you!!! I’ve been trying to figure out where to put my desk in my office. I tried your suggestion of pulling it away from the wall, having my back to the wall, and being in view of both the door and close to window. I love it!!! Thank you!! So grateful! I just couldn’t come up with what felt right.

Thank you so much! When possible, I love to "fly" my desk, 90° in relationship to the windows if possible (to avoid reflections in the screens) and in a place where I can see the door. It always "feels" right. Will definitely apply the Feng Shui rules next time I move!

In regards to "desk with computer equipment": If your desk has a computer it should sit perpendicular to any windows. Having a window behind or in front makes it really hard to see when there's sunlight. Also, to consider when buying, desks should be a lot shorter than tables. Adjustable desk height is preferred. Monitors should be mounted to the desk instead of a wall if possible, allowing to shift height with the desk. On the topic of ergonomics, I don't know who thought trays or drawers are a good idea to have on top of your knees, it's just not comfortable. If you have a tower computer, plan to have it on the right unless you buy an upside down case, so you face the window of the case. If you can, keeping it off the floor helps reduce lint buildup. Having a power strip on top can be quite useful depending on what you do on your desk, in my case I put chargers (don't really have spares, they can get quite pricey), and occasionally I might plug a soldering iron, a glue gun, a laminator, another computer to troubleshoot, network equipment, I even experimented with a raspberry pi. All permanent stuff gets plugged in a power strip screwed below, such as the computer, monitors, lights, speakers and the other power strip. If you have a monitor with a power adapter, use velcro and hot glue. This way if you want to move the monitor you can do so quickly, as well as putting it back on its place. If you have a microphone with an arm, zip ties keep it tidy, extend the arm as much as possible before putting them. Lastly, I'm looking forward to do this, but a monitor shelf seems like a good place to put away your mouse and keyboard when you need desk space.

So I always see people facing the desks not against walls, which is fine if you have a laptop/tablet or you're just using it as a writing desk. But how about desktop computers? I place the back of the desk against the wall because that's where the plugs are and I don't want to see my cables dangling out. Not to mention quite a bit of tables are "unfinished" at the back. What to do?

See if you can route the cables through the desk and into the floor - it's not always possible, but well worth it when you pull it off.

Yeah my desk is violating all of these rules LOL. I had 2 walls to choose from for my desk 1) a short 6 ft stretch of wall, next to the door and window, which I know is where he would place it, but I went with option 2) a long 9.5 ft stretch of wall on the opposite side (which puts the window & door behind me). I like it better bc it fits my desk + a side table with my tower & printer. If it was on the shorter wall, I would have to keep the tower under my desk (which I hate bc it gets so dusty!) and I would have to keep the printer on the desk surface, which is precious real estate (I even mounted the monitor to the wall bc sometimes I need the full surface to do arts & crafts). The longer wall also has a full length, build-in floating shelf that only sits about 5 ft off the ground, so it's perfect for a desk, but not that great to hang artwork (it would all be below eye level) or to put storage (you'd have to watch your head everytime you need to get something). I also think it looks more inviting & balanced out when you open the door in the corner of the room & see the whole desk set up on the opposite wall with mounted monitors, and books & plants above it on the shelf, instead of opening the door to a shelf with some storage under it and only a side-view of the desk (it's a really pretty desk, too).

There's cases for cable management that you can install to the back of your desk! You could also make one yourself out of thin wood or hell, even some plumbing tubes, with a hole near the side of your desk side/legs, so the power cable can run along that and into a wall plug. For all the cables from pc to monitor/mouse/keyboard etc there's cases as well. You could also just back the part where your tower stands with some wood/thick cardstock/a little curtain - that's what I plan on doing :) If you have the money of course, it's wise to buy a table that already caters to all that, my sister bought one that has built in compartments for cables already and the back where the tower stands is backed up with wood. All the cables run along the inside in predetermined channels/tubes. I've been thinking about this too since my desk seems to be in the worst place :')

If possible, you could put the side of the desk against the wall next to the sockets and put something like a cabinet in front of the desk to hide the cables.

3:00 If you have a lot of eqipment and still want to float your desk like that, you can do it by using a cabinet as a half wall. Your desk and equipment is protected behind the cabinet, but you can keep easy watch on the traffic.

I would put my desk in a commanding position. But with my WALL OF SCREENS, I wouldn't be able to see anything anyway. So facing the wall, sideways to the light and entrance it is. And this way the people entering the room don't have to lay siege on my wall of screens every-time they want to see my face.

Now i know! Based on some of the shorts i had come to believe that the plan i have to place a desk is wrong. But when i look at the energy of the rest of the spaces it is 100% the right decision even one of the doors is pointing angled to my back. There is only one way to not have this and that is to put myself in command position with back against the wall to buy a smaller desk. I am however not going to do this because of a couple reasons. 1. There would be a window with lots of movement left to where im sitting instead of to the right, but at an angle which is much less intrusive. 2 The door that would otherwise be facing me is relatively calm and has only one purpose. The other door has even less movement, but because the room is almost a triangle i would then have 2 doors in the back 😂. 3. I would create lots of dead space out of usable space doing it any other way. 4. i can just hang a curtain in front of the problem door/window combo on the divider wall and then having the option of additional light by opening those which also gives me a view of the computer from the workshop area and livingroom. If i can get through the burnout and life circumstances to realize this and fengshui is correct, then I'm going to be so wealthy i would probably need to do it all over again since i wont any longer be renting. 😂 And if not, i would be living in a very comfortable and creativity stimulating home regardless. I love your videos. Please show what things you can do to promote rest. I really need it!

I used to have an Aquarium in my office (I also used to have an office at home-we moved). I wonder about things like plants, and living things, even pet areas. Do they matter only a little or a lot? My desk was facing double doors, side were a whole wall set of windows, and the top left corner from the doors had the fish tank. My books were behind me, next to the tank. if we associate an item with a category, does it influence Feng Shui with its placement as well? Like my bookshelves, books could be representative of creativity and knowledge. Does it work like that? I don't know if you're planning on covering those, but that would be interesting if you do. I'm curious.

The difficulty is when you don't have a spare room for a home office and have to find another room in which to place your desk. I have a very unusually designed living rm and I can feel comfortable setting the desk in the command position but then the seating plan for the armchairs and television is compromised. So a powerful office space compromises my ability to relax and unwind. Whereas a relaxing living space compromises my ability to focus on work!!! So how does one create the right hierarchy within a room that has two specific functions? I suppose a successful working life enables the ability to relax so the desk must take priority over the TV and chairs?

Yes windows have strong energy and can disrupt sleep. Headboard shouldn't be in front of the window. Put a heavy curtain you can close at night to protect you if you have no other place to put the bed. Some people place things to cover mirrors like fabric, curtains, bookcases, etc

I appreciate your advice in a lot of these videos, but I think sometimes you assume that we all use Macbooks and drink Iced Groggachinos. No shade to those people(!), but the command position is a bit of a moot point when you're using a 40" screen and a desktop computer. :P Also, as others have mentioned, cable management. The rest of your advice is sound though.

people might think he is talking BS but all these things do matter, especially the energy of the room. More light and movement makes you feel less alone and more safe (no light would mean you wouldn't be able to see so naturally our brains are programmed to like light and no movement would be uncanny and uneasy feeling) but obviously you dont want too much of these things because sometimes you want to feel some sense of privacy (thus the desk should be away from doors or windows where a lot of activity can happen and you should be able to see everything except walls in the room)

My fiancee and I have a small apartment and we both have desks situated in the living room area against opposite walls. We've tried every way to reposition our furniture (sectional couch, TV stand, two desks, and a lamp). There's no way to avoid facing the walls, unfortunately. And there's no way to fit both of our desks against the same wall without getting a smaller couch or TV stand. I've been trying to solve this problem for months now and I still have no solution. The room has plenty of space in the center, but our furniture is simply too large to Feng Shui in this apartment.

Been watching all of your videos to try getting some inspiration for a solution, but it seems like my fiancee and I are doomed with this until we move out or get new furniture.

Sure, putting your desk smack in the middle of the room sounds nice I guess, but I need an outlet.

It is not in the middle of the room necessarily. Looks like that in the model. It can actually be a lot closer to the wall as little as 18 to 24 inches from the wall.

Anyone knows feng shui, is putting an office desk in your bedroom good?

I don't agree with being closer to the window for energy, if you are closer to a window you are more likely to be sniped by an FBI agent in which case you would lose the capacity to absorb the energy

In your description, which possession is supposedly being referred to when you say "[T]his video's talks about basic Feng Shui rules..."? This video's _what_ talks about the basic Feng Shui rules?
how to place your desk in Feng Shui?
