Fun fact about Kane's debut at the first Hell in a Cell... They hadn't mentioned Kane on TV for a *month* at that point. After Shawn cost Taker the belt, Taker's storyline focus switched from Kane to Shawn and they stopped mentioning Kane, so even though the fans knew Kane was coming at aome point, the debut happening that night was genuinely a shock! Imagine WWE having that level of patience and faith in their fans!

While I am elated at the final result, I also do agree with what Tempest said at the end as well SPOILER Sullivan did not even try to bring up Mick's promo skills when a hell in a cell match emerges. How he goes to Edge or Seth or Dean and yells at them for not understanding how dangerous the match is. It's not just what he put his body through, but also him not letting us forget. He makes the aura of the HIAC match what it is

When you think of that particular style of match...your first image is Mankind falling off the top of the cell going through the table...Your next image is Mankind crazy smile with his tooth in his nose...your 3rd image is Kane being introduced...Taker is not even in the top 3 moments...

Taker Mankind is by far the best HIAC. When you think HIAC, you think of that spot. It defines the stip, still, after 25 years. Not only that, it was revolutionary. It changed wrestling forever. Mainstream pro wrestling had never seen anything like it before. It also made Mick into a main eventer, it rejuvenated the undertaker character. The match it self is a masterful piece of storytelling, that uses the duality of the artform to perfection. The balance between storyline, and the reality. In kayfabe terms, Mankind is the undertakers greatest foe until this point, Taker could never beat him, and it took ALL OF THIS for him to finally get that victory. He had to damn near kill Mankind to win. You'd never seen a character like it before. At the same time, the fans are watching a man sacrifice his body for his art. Moreso that any other wrestler ever has. It's an astounding match, and an astounding moment in wrestling history. By FAR the greatest HIAC ever.

@ad206 that's a massive misrepresentation of what's happening here, and you know it. The interesting thing about arguing for the new day vs the usos is you're looking at it from a different angle. Taking into account how much they exceeded the division they were in, how they aren't remembered for their one big spot, etc. Remember, this is about who can make the best ARGUMENT for which is best. Billy gunn has zero argument, if you were gonna talk about dx you'd say Triple h/Shawn Michaels, if you were gonna talk about tag guys you'd talk about a Jeff hardy. There isn't a better HIAC match than new day vs usos at the things it's good at, and therefore trying to argue that those things are what makes it the best is a viable strategy. Ultimatly debates are about arguing over what metrics we are measuring by, and Laurie provided a unique one

HBK puts on the greatest performance a pro wrestler has ever done in the first cell match. The match is 5 stars. Incredible work, white hot crowd, commentary was incredible. Kane DOES NOT overshadow that match. It sounds like you haven’t seen it in a long time. Watch it again! Kane does a terrible tombstone and he can’t find the hard cam so he twirls around for 5 seconds before he does it. What a terrible take on that match. Mick Foley himself still says the first one is the best.
