Indian TATA will be assembling under license the Spanish CASA/AIRBUS aircraft C295. To manufacture an aeroplane is something different, it means to design, develop, manufacture the components and certify the aircraft. All this has been done by CASA in the late 90s when the aircraft was created, whereas TATA is assembling it under license.

Snehesh, I hav a query from you. 1. In the context of AUKUS, do you think France now would be more willing to Help India in acquiring more and better Subamarines, not necessarily Nuclear. 2. Will we see more Rafales, say 3-4 more squadrons in IAF n cancellation of MRF prpgram, which in my view would be more logical if it happens. 3. Right now India is dependent a lot on Russia for Nuclear submarine technology n getting crew experience. Can we expect France to play similar role for India in future. My basic Assumption is that France may try to look more competitive n aggressive in getting defence deals in the Post AUKUS scenario. Plz share your views, if time permits.

The question is whether the C295 deal is paving the way for building up an aviation eco system? Without this initiative, C295 deal would be among the series of efforts that India has taken ever since HAL started to assemble Avros in 1960s. Without C 295 being unable to develop into a commercial transport option, even if the production run of C 295 extends to more than 100 units to replace AN 32, this deal cannot become a game changer as you claim it to be. Unlike the policy developed by the Brazilians, who invested in Embraer transport, both for military and commercial versions, India is not using commercial connectivity of its nearly 100 airports.

#ThePrint don't you think we should have gone for Cj130-30 , say some 70 numbers since its ability is more than c-295 and would have been much cheaper and we could have one assembly line for say 50 numbers and also manufacture the aircraft consumables and spares , we would have reduced number different type to C17, c130, and russian transporters could have been replaced when ever they would have come TSL end.

It is a light transport aircraft so it's of no use to operate it in Daulat Beg Oldie. Due to the geography of the airstrip, it is better for a medium transport aircraft like the C130 to deliver more payload and operate less sorties, for safety reasons ofc.
