I am a TV news reporter and documentary filmmaker and recently bought the Tascam DR-44WL which is great but I was a bit confused about the differences between the two choices of 4CH and MTR, but you explain well, even-though you use Zoom it's the same principals as the Tascam, but the Tascam user manual is rubbish, so now I think I understand. Cheers from David

Again ! Exactly what I want to know. Your teach in is hundred times more valuable than the Manual from H4n. Many thanks once again !

Question: I am recording a live recording of myself playing the guitar and singing in 4 channel mode. The guitar comes out in stereo (when I stereo encode) but the vocal from input # one xlr only comes out on one (left) channel. How can I make this vocal track come out on both the left and the right when playing back on my computer? AND is it best to "stereo encode" before transferring the files to the computer? Thanks in advance.

Great Video! Thank you very much. Is there a way to do a multitrack recording of at least two voices at the same time? So every voice gets an own track while using two microphones/headsets. For example an interview or a podcast. Thanks in advance.

You should have had a call interrupting the video with a spam call offering you something … this would made it 🤣

Thank you for your explanation about Zoom h4n! Could you tell me, when i want acoustic guitar sound, can I record in MTR mode on 2 tracks simultaneously (1 & 2, or 3 & 4) separate left and right signals from XY mics (left on 1st and right on 2nd)? It seems only to record the same mono summed from both XY mics on both tracks all the time (and the same with 1/2 link). Thank you very much!

Yes you can. Just mark 1&2 (stereo mic) or 3&4 - for input 1 and 2 - you can also use it for other stuff. Check this new video : kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHOblqaZYseDhrM

@@BBWalkerTV Thank you for your reply! So I simply choose MIC and tracks 1 + 2 (or 3 + 4)? Yes, it works but only when EFFECT is OFF, at least this is what I figured out. When any effect is ON, both tracks have the same signal summed from both XY mics or 1 and 2 inputs... Is there any way to use at least compressor (PreAMP) on 2 tracks?

Do I understand correctly that to use a pre-recorded backing track as my track #1 in MTR that I would use the Karaoke function? Also, could I store the backing tracks in a folder on the Zoom and select the desired one from that folder at the beginning of each project? Thank you for the way you respond to individual questions. I am getting geared up to try my first MTR session; have been using the STEREO and 4CH with pretty good results thus far.
@BBWalkerTV4 жыл бұрын
You need karoke function only if your backing track is stereo (for example after downmix) . If you have mono backing track you just move it to MTR project and select File on the desired track. In this video I have explained it in more detailed way: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHOblqaZYseDhrM

Thanks for good explanation between 2 modes. I'm using only 4CH mode, but recently I encounter a recording issue with the lines inputs on my Zoom H4n pro. Assuming line 1 has only instrumental audio from keyboard output, and line 2 has both vocal and instrumental audio from mixer, it seems line 1 records vocal from line 2 but at reduced volume. Thus, it ruins the instrumental track. Does anyone have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks!
@BBWalkerTV2 жыл бұрын
Are you sure that this "reduced" volume is not by wrong setup on mixer ?. Ext in (MIC) on the back is stereo (2 channels) and combo XLS/Instrumentals/LIne are mono. You can setup volume for MIC (both channels) and individual for Line1 / Line2 .There is also a feature called Link 1/2 - make sure it is off (go to menu / Input / Link 1/2) If your mixer is stereo and you can split track using pan I would choose MIC in for mixer recording - split vocals and instrumentals into left and right and second instrumental only on Line1. Thanks to this you will have 3 separated tracks and you can do everything later in AudaCity for example. If you need live example - I can create a video

@@BBWalkerTV Thanks for quick reply. I'm pretty sure that "reduced" volume is generated from the output of the mixer (record out) to the 2nd input line in of the zoom recorder. I do have the Link 1/2 turned off since I wanted to control the volume on each L1 and L2. On my second trial of recording with same setup a week later, I mistakenly forgot to insert the 1/4 jack to the Zoom line 2 from the mixer for 10 minutes, and I can see that the audio track from instrumental feed did not have the vocal or any interference. When I insert later the forgotten jack, then it happens again. I can clearly hear it back when I split the 2 L/R audio track. Definitely, I have nailed down the culprit. But it is weird, that Zoom seems to have an issue of recording separately the 2 tracks for that kind of setup. I may try again to see if I insert from the mixer to the MIC input so I can eliminate having two different tracks on L1 and L2 to see if it helps but it requires to have a cable rca to xlr to bypass the external dual mic. But if you happen to have time to do a quick test on your side, do you have similar problem?
@cpm53032 жыл бұрын
@@BBWalkerTV I no longer have that issue now I have tested routing directly output rec-out from mixer to bypass dual mic inputs, and keyboard output to dual xlrs l1/l2 inputs of the zoom. From now on, I'm going to use this setup. It works but a lot of cables though. There is a definitely overlap audio recording issue using the other one.

Hello, can i get the separated file from 4 channel in MTR mode?
@BBWalkerTV3 жыл бұрын
Sure you can. You need a PC for doing it. Zoom saves it as 2 separate WAV PCM Stereo files. One file end with M and contains input from build-in mic and second file with I - contains Input 1 and 2 To split stereo track into mono choice this tutorial kzbin.info/www/bejne/r36leoiXp6p2lcU the solution is about 10:40 Inside zoom you can only move stero file as backing track in Karaoke mode in MTR

In MTR record only in 16/44.100

Good notice. It is also because of limited CPU power.
