The Wavian cans are totally pro. I bought 4 of the 10 liter cans in the late nineties for filling up our off road motorcycles. Bought 2 of the filling spouts as well. After 20+ years the only thing that has worn out were the lid seals. Amazon has those for a great price. When I was growing up we had the American made 5 gallon cans that had a screw on flexible galvanized spouts that always leaked on you, so my Pop always knew we were into the gas so we could ride or get to town and see the girls. I still have one of those old cans. I think Pop probably threw away the spout 40 years ago after having gas all over him. Memories.

Two days ago I bought a British canister of German design from a friend. It has markings only on one side. In the very center of the rectangle, the embossment reads W/I\D and above it the date 1944. I'm trying to check what the original paint color was. There are many layers, but I think it's a British khaki color, more of a brown color. Please tell me whether there was a norm standard for painting canisters and what color it was exactly? As I also have a wartime Safety Cooker petrol stove, I am looking for a smaller British fuel container - square little tin. I would then have a complete set for my tanker display.

Over the weekend we were supposed to get a bit of snow and here in the South that never ends well. I was worried we'd lose power so I filled up a few gas cans for my generator. I had a NEW but CHEAP 'jerry can' in the back of my pickup. Got gas Friday, left it in the truck, Saturday I was walking around outside a noticed a strong gas odor. Seems the can contracted because of the cold causing it to buckle and form two leaks at the creases, one on each side of the can, formed by the slight buckling (not at the welds mind you). Luckily they were really small leaks and I might have only lost a 1/4 gallon but if I did not realize it or if the leak was worse who knows what would have happened if I started my truck. So...I'd agree the cheap cans are not worth the money.

I own some milsurplus US cans, I own a Valpro and a Wavian can, and I own two of these chinese knock off cans. I got to say for the 50 bucks the knock offs came with a spout, and a jerry can holder. When compared to the near 100 dollars for a Wavian can I can understand why people use them. I personally use the Chinese ones for regular house duty and as back up fuel cans for my every day driving vehicles and have done so for several years now, they have held up better then I had expected. I use their jerry can mounts to hold my milsurp cans on my off roading set up and my wavian cans on my van. All in all I can say that the Wavian cans are of excellent make, quality and finish and have done everything I have asked of them flawlessly. But if I could go back I would have saved the money and stuck with the milsurp, they work just as well (abated a bit less pretty) cost me 24 dollars, and have held up great under heavy abusive use. The Chinese cans work well for light duty or emergency cans and the mounts they come with and spouts work well, but they do glug a bit if you lean into them which is a large negative, the seem being exposed while a weakness has not caused a major issue other then some mild annoyances while carrying them. the cheap handles is my biggest complaint. I love the product, but the price tag for a metal box that carries fuel (doubly so when you factor in a mount for them) is a bit insane at 150 odd dollars vs the competition (a Chinese mount and a surplus can) coming in under 50. To use your comparison it would be like if Knipex charged 20 dollars, but you could buy a used knipex plyer for 3 dollars that has some scuffed handles and plasti-dip it for 2 bucks more...you end up with a equally good tool, but at a fraction of the price.

Thanks for the comments Dies1r4e, I totally understand where you are coming from. The cost of the Wavian cans is a reflection on the many extra things that go into the manufacturing process, not to mention the distribution, expensive quality control testing, safety certificates and regulations we have to comply with. Something the Chinese cans distributors don't usually worry about. Many thanks for purchasing the cans anyway, I would love to know how they are all bearing up in 5 years time. 👍🏼

Hi Bob, when you say Gas, i assume you mean fuel/petrol? Our Wavian cans have a special lining that will prevent the can from rusting and potentially contaminating the fuel. If you use these for water or something else though it can actually cause the lining to break down.

I live in AU and I own several 20, 5 and 10l Jerry cans. Whether at home, in the ute and or at work I don't reckon I've ever seen these el cheapo steel jerry cans, never seen a 'Wavian' Jerry can either but all my steel cans are built identical. I don't know if they're built to 'UN standards' the UN has no part in my life, as far as I knew they were rated for military standards for NATO, NATO is not the UN, ISO make standards, SAE does the same, and many more; I'm not aware that the UN is involved in industry standards. They generally sell for around $70 AU at auto parts stores, tool stores, etc. color coded for different uses/fuels. In any case if a company uses metal jerry cans rather than plastic they are doing well in my book, plastic cans are garbage. By the way the Chinese can looks to be pressed together with some kind of pittsburgh machine or other gear press/bender like they do with ventilation ducting, or modern car bodies, I'm pretty well certain its the same for the Polish/Latvian 'Wavian' can. They are absolutely not welded together as, if you remove the paint, there is no apparent marking from the heat, nor are there signs of tacs/re-starts or spot-welds, which would be necessary even if a machine clamped the can and welded around. I still suppose they must begin as two parts which are joined and bent/pulled over in some kind of jig on an assembly line as otherwise the shape would be difficult to form as one part, not sure about the internal coating as it seems consistent as if it were done after the join, although, again, that would be counterintuitive. But you sell the cans so you tell me.
@wavianuk4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for the question and comments Eli. Yes, the cans are expertly seam welded down the middle and then the top is put on after the rezol lining is coating is applied. It's v simple, but also very clever. Our quality control is second to now and we get virtually zero returns.

Well, good luck getting a new can today. I spent weeks trying to order these cans from Wavian, eBay and Amazon and each can I got was dented on all eight corners, had scratches and paint rubbed off of all eight corners and finally the can I decided to keep leaked from the spout to can connection AND at the black plastic spring loaded spout assembly. Wavian is complicit in allowing retailers to sell scratch & dent and defective cans as new. I was emailing Wavian and they didn't seem very concerned with my experience. Now I have to buy a cheap plastic can again which I detest. I'm not going to waste any more of my life attempting to get a new Wavian can with this low character sales system they have in place. @@wavianuk Thanks for the reply. A summary of trying to buy your product: I purchased five total cans from different retail suppliers. Every one of them was damaged or had bubbling up metal under the paint. When I finally decided to keep the smaller version of the can and filled it up with gas, the spout would not secure into the can with the rotating prongs. I would rotate the prongs to hold the spout on the can and they would spring out again and the spout would fall off. How many cans do your customers need to buy to find these perfect cans you claim are in your warehouse? At the end of the day your product soaked my brand new Honda mower with fuel. Not only do you not have cans that are not damaged on most of the corners but then the we try to use them they dump fuel on our machinery. hi Flemming, thanks for the message. Apologies for the delay in reply. I've seen that video and the problem was because he used the cans for storing water. Wavian Steel Fuel Cans are NOT designed to be used for storing water. This is because the lining is not actually paint but a special Rezol enamel lining designed to prevent rust. I know it may seem strange, but as some other people pointed out on that video it is a matter of chemistry. Water has very different properties than fuel and certain chemicals (eg Rezol) react differently to it. You can read more about the science here www.quora.com/Why-do-you-think-the-water-and-diesel-did-not-mix-together Our US seller is hoping Wranglestar will clarify this on another video.
