Thank you for this video, Virginia! I've just finished seven hats with e-wraps, a practice hat just purled, and one with brioche. I've been wondering about a whole hat with u-wraps, and thanks to you, now I know!

I think the key is the back of the stitch. On an e-wrap stitch, you see two strands of yarn. Because wrapping causes the yarn to cross the back of the peg twice. Which allows more give. The U knit, you bring the strand around to behind the peg, till it touches itself. Then lock it in place, with the lower strand flipping over the working strand on the peg. Because there is a small but of yarn held behind the peg, it acts like but if slack, giving a little more tension than an e-wrap, but not as much give. The flat stitch though, has no working yarn in the back of the peg. So it has the least amount of slack/give to work with. At least, that's how I best understand how these stitches work. Personally, I like using the U stitch. It gives me the perfect blend of tension and give. I have never been able to do a good flat stitch. With the amount of slack I need to do it right, I figure I might as well do a U stitch.

Beginner here. Can you start off with a U-knit even on the first row? Same with the flat knit, how do you start that?
@SimplyIntertwined3 жыл бұрын
You probably can since you first wrap pegs that you would just do the U knit where you would normally start any stitch at.
@jennifrigge923010 ай бұрын
Is it a personal preference as to which type you use?

It would be, unless a pattern calls for a certain one. You can try them out and see which one you prefer the look of and tightness of in a project.

Virginia, thx so much for this very helpful demonstration and the tips! Question - - could you share the name brand of the loom hook you are using? I am new to loom knitting but the hooks that came with my kits aren’t very user-friendly. Yours looks more sturdy, has a nice pointy tip to grab the yarn, and a decent size length of the angled tip! (Any tips for where to shop for the best knitting loom materials would be greatly appreciated! ) Best, Lisa
@SimplyIntertwined3 жыл бұрын
My "looming hook" isn't from the craft section of a store. The brand is Sheffield and I got them on Amazon. They are considered picks for working on cars! LOL They are very pointy and not for kids to use. Check out my review of them then you can see if your stores carry something similar in the auto section.: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqmunqp8fdV0hM0

It does depend on the project and what round/long looms you have so keep that in mind. However, don't get discouraged, since you might just have to make some modifications.

What is your favorite stitch for making beanies?
@SimplyIntertwined Жыл бұрын
Not sure I have a favorite for hats. I do like using ewrap mostly but have been like U Knit for the tighter look it gives. You can do the rib stitch (knit a peg, purl a peg) or garter where you knit a row, then purl a row. It is about the look you are going for the hat.
@victoriatremblay25894 жыл бұрын
Can you do say the e stitch and then the u stitch in a project?
@SimplyIntertwined4 жыл бұрын
Yes if that is a look you are going for.
@KudaPucat7 жыл бұрын
Very nice thanks. I would really have liked to see the back of the swatch too, and purl would have been nice too, though I know how that looks.
@SimplyIntertwined7 жыл бұрын
I didn't include purl because, to me, it's not one of the "knit" forms but a different stitch to me. I think showing the back would have been a good idea. If I can I'll keep that in mind when I do future stitches. :)
@DollVicious6 жыл бұрын
Hi! Could you please tell me if it’s ok to alternate between Ewrap and Uwrap to make panels on a medium size blanket? I just want to do it all continuously without having to stitch the panels together, but I’m worried they wont measure up the same because one is tighter than the other, and I want the blanket to be even all around.
@SimplyIntertwined6 жыл бұрын
If you don't want to stitch the panels you would need to use a bigger loom. If you do these stitches you need to keep track of when you change and you would need to line them up and stitch the panels together if using a small loom. Or you need to just pick one and test it out to figure out which one you like best.

Question on the u knit when you are returning back to left would you wrap in the same direction?
@SimplyIntertwined6 жыл бұрын
When you work back you are just reversing what you do, you still want the yarn in front and creating the "u" working in the direction you are now going to knit.

I tried doing the u knit on my 3/8 gauge loom but after about 3 rows it just got tighter and tighter and I could not lift it over the peg no matter how loose I made it. I have no problem when doing it on the 5/8 loom. What am I doing wrong?
@SimplyIntertwined7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what loom that is but it might be not the best knit for that particular loom until you can get the tension right. Some stitches, for me, work better on different looms--the same way different yarns work up differently on different looms. Were you using the same type (weight) of yarn on both? Maybe try with a thinner yarn?
@carriehowe33337 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your quick reply Virginia. I was trying to make a dish cloth on the 3/8 KB All In One Loom with cotton yarn. I think it might be the cotton yarn that is giving me the problem? I did a dishcloth in garter stitch (with e-wrap) but it was too loose and I wanted a tighter stitch. Maybe I will try the true knit stitch on your other video.

Today is February 8, 2022. Thank you for this video. This is not the stitch I was looking for. I wanted to know the stitch that starts out like a purl but instead of taking the loop off the peg and bringing it to the front back over the peg. it's just dropped over. You knit under the peg, pull up the loop then put it over the peg. The loop is not taken off the peg then put back on the peg, I hope I have explained this correctly, and I hope you see this comment.

@SimplyIntertwined6 жыл бұрын
At this time no, I don't have much practice with adding and edit subtitle, though I did add an English subtitle to this. When looking at doing it in Spanish I would need to look into it more. I had to do a lot of editing in the English one given there were a lot of errors in what it thought I said.

Be nice to see what the other side looks like
@SimplyIntertwined2 жыл бұрын
I only focused on what would the "front" of the yarn on a project. You can do up a swatch to see how the back looks, most likely like purl on back. If you have done ewrap and seen the back of that, the others would be a "tighter" version of it. Hope this helps.
@jamie73642 жыл бұрын

I was focusing on the these for now. I haven't worked the "true" yet so choose not to include it at this time. I will make a video later once I have worked with it in projects. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. :)
@lesliethomas62295 жыл бұрын
Seems like the "U" wrap and the "flat" wrap are actually the same stitches you just do the "Flat" wrap all at one time.
@SimplyIntertwined5 жыл бұрын
They are very similar but the method of how the yarn is positioned determines the tightness of the stitch as you saw in the sample I showed. :)
