I have learned different names for the loom knit stitch. The e wrap we call cable stitch, the true or classic stitch we call knitting pearl, the flat stitch we call plain. It all works out in the end. I loved the great short little explanations you have on the 4 knit stitch types. Keep up the great work.

I'm pretty sure the non-e-wraps are "just" different ways of tensioning the same "needle knit" stitch. Someone showed me the true stitch, and I thought I could make it easier and came up with the flat stitch, but found it too tight, so I did the flat stitch one at a time instead of stretching the yarn flat against all the pegs. This ended up more like a "J stitch" which is somewhere between the flat-one-at-a-time and the U-stitch.

I just started loom knitting this month and have been doing my "U-wraps" without looping the yarn back around, just laying them flat as if doing the flat knit, but one peg at a time. Is there any difference between doing a "U-wrap" my way (so basically the flat knit) vs. the proper way, aside from maybe having a little tighter tension?
@Aliasbaba414 жыл бұрын
If you do one peg at a time, you have less chance in collecting tension. Otherwise no difference.

Can a u-stitch be used/modified to make a garter stitch? I know a garter is 1 row knit, 1 row purl, but can a u-stitch be done 1 row like a knit, 1 row like a purl, using a u-stitch instead of an e-wrap? I'm still early in the learning process, and am considering the possibilities for how to make a fairly tightly loomed blanket (want it warm & not too open) & the e-wrap sounds too loose. Garter &/or u-stitch are the way to go, I'm thinking, but can a u-stitch be used to make a garter-stitch? I also think a cable cast-on would complement the look of a garter stitch, better than any other cast-on/bind-on, but am also trying to find a matching cast-off/binding-off look.

Thanks for the video. It is an excellent way to show the various stitches. I do have one question. On the u-wrap it is possible to start behind and then wrap in front. What is that called....does it make the knit stitch or something entirely different?
@LoomaHat9 жыл бұрын
Debbie Nemitz Hi Debbie - I saw your follow-up comment and yes what you describe is the e-Wrap and the results are VERY different. The size difference between an item made with a U vs an E wrap is close to half. Here is a website post that might help more: www.loomahat.com/knit-stitch/
@debbienemitz66699 жыл бұрын
LoomaHat.com Thanks for confirming. Once again thanks so much for a great video showing the various stitches. I did once use flat and it got way too tight. It's amazing how much difference just pulling it around like the u makes it so much larger. Although the e-wrap is faster and easier, it also makes the stitches so loose it can be a problem. Thanks again for everything..

@LoomaHat Жыл бұрын
You're not necessarly doing anything wrong. The eWrap on a large gauge loom is very loose. You either have to get a small gauge like a CinDwood or a KB loom, knit with two strands, use chunky yarn or use a different version of the knit stitch, like the Uwrap.

Hi Hina - you're question is VERY broad - it's really about design - unfortunately, It's impossible for me to tell you when, Just keep in mind that the E give you a larger, looser stitch and the U will give you a smaller, tighter stitch.
