Today ‪@OhioShaves‬ I am comparing the AL 13+ mild versus the AL 13++ medium aggression safety razor to figure out which one is best for your face/ head and hair type. I'll demonstrate the features and benefits of Henson razors, and give you tips on how to use Henson razors to get the best shave possible. You'll be amazed at how your skin feels after using Henson Shaving Safety Razors! Both safety razors are carved out of a solid piece of aluminum with precision cuts so that the DE blade does not flex when you're shaving that could cause skin irritation. Henson shaving is one of the top selling safety razors in the world. There's a reason why so many people are buying this razor! Stick around and watch the whole entire video so you can see the differences between both these excellent safety razors. Check out the links below!

My review is about the Aluminum AL-13 Mild and the TI-22 Medium. I started out with the Al-13 and liked it but wondered if upgrading to the a medium would be more efficient. The TI-22 sounded cool and the idea of it lasting forever was cool. I liked the quality idea of it and after reading a lot of reviews I decided to try it. I wanted to see if the weight would help with efficiency as I am a daily face shaver. After what felt like a long period of time I wondered if I should give up and sell the TI-22. I cut myself a lot and researched what would make it better for my face with less cuts. To say the least don't press into your face. Let it do the work. Key take aways I learned. Everyone's face is different and not every situation will work for everyone. So if you invested in a Henson you need to consider the following. Shave oil is okay but doesnt work as well as i'd like. A bar of dove soap works well alone or put cream or lotion on top of it. Rub it in well on the face. Also, try different blades. I bought 20 different brands. Astra, silver blue, wilkinsin, and personna are great. Switch blades out every 1 to 3 shaves. It all depends on your face and how course your hair is. I also have used cheap creams, cremo, and proraso cream. Use a small amount. I also bought a synthetic brush and a plastic bowl. Mix a spash of water with whatever you use and mix with brush. You don't want it to be too watery. Rub brush multiple ways on face. When it comes to shaving figure out which way your facial hair grows with facial hair mapping. This helped me a lot. Use short strokes shaving. Don't go all the way down your face like your cartidge blade. While shaving and a part of your face you haven't gotten to yet is kinda dry with cream, just mix your brush in the bowl and lather that dry spot again. Shave with the grain and then against or acrossthe grain. This won't work for everyone. Going against grain right away does not end well for me. So after reading all that, yes I thought I wasted my money on the TI-22 Medium. After several months of trying different methods written above, I am finally happy with The TI-22 medium. I get little to no cuts. It is more efficient than the mild. I have used both at sink and in shower. Be careful around the adams apple and stretch skin and go over slow. I get great shaves with both these razors. The AL-13 stays in the shower and the TI-22 stays by the sink on the Henson stand almost always. If I have more than a few days of growth (I have course hair) the TI-22 medium cut through it with efficiency. Rinse blade channel often. So when you're thinking about regretting your purchase just try some of the methods above. Yeah it costed me some money. I finally have an amazing shave. I was never able to shave against the grain with cartridges until now. Better shave than the cartidge blades once you figure out which method works best for your body. The AL-13 Mild is very forgiving on cuts as well. Check out Ohio Shaves and geofatboy on youtube. Maybe this will make more sense. Also, dont change your blade with a soapy hand. I had a slice right down my thumb. Anyway, I finally made it to great shave land!

Excellent review. I also have sensitive skin and in preparation for shaving I use: Hair shampoo with a small amount of oil added (Baobab, Argan or Jojoba oil). Wash the beard in shampoo and leave it on the face for 1 minute. Then wash it off again with lukewarm water. It makes your stubble softer and the skin more elastic. You will be amazed at how much better your shave will be. Have a nice weekend 😃👍

Another nice comparison. When the first Henson version was released, the Astra Green blade was recommended. In fact, when I received my Henson+, the order included a 5-pack of Astra Greens. I forget when Henson switched to the RK blades. But after I discovered the Gillette Nacet, it became my favorite for all my DEs. One trick I learned with my Henson+ was that I could increase the aggression/efficiency by loosening the handle from the head by an eighth (or slightly more) of a turn. The tolerance of the Henson is so good that doing so did not cause any blade chatter.
@michele_

I heard that you can also take a used razor blade, cut the sharp edges carefully, and then add this "spacer" along the blade inside the razor to make it more aggressive I will try this with the mild Henson

I have the Henson AL13 Mild (Original version). I use both the Astra SP and Gillette Platinum blades. I slightly prefer the GP blades. They are slightly sharper and smoother. My next razor will be the Karve Overlander aluminum. Waiting for the Karve to be back in stock. I think Henson's mild version is about 90% of total sales, so 9 out of 10 razors sold are mild. That makes sense as the Henson mild is an excellent razor to transition from a cartridge which is exactly why I bought it. I will be buying a Karve Overlander aluminum for more efficiency. I like the aluminum since it is easy to maneuver and requires no polishing or fuss.

I'd be interested to see what your thoughts are on the "+++" aggressive model (which really isn't that aggressive). I got one through a special order to Henson via "Lather Hog." It's the version 1 before the new rounded edge design came out. I shaved with it last night using a Nacet blade and Nivea shaving cream and it was sublime. I have the "+++" and the "++" which was my first double edge razor after moving from cartridge razors about a year and a half ago. Back then, Henson was recommending the Astra blades with their razors so I bought 100 along with the "++." Although they work well with the Astra blades (better than the now recommended RK blades IMHO), I still feel the best shave with Henson razors is with the Nacet blades.

Just a heads up to those commenting about Astra blades; I'm guessing Henson Shaving switched to RK (manufactured in India) from them because Astra is manufactured in Russia. This means that, currently, purchasing Astra blades directly supports Putin's invasion of Ukraine. That said, I'm glad I saw this video, it helped me choose which of the two HS razors I want to buy as a first foray into doubled-edged blades. 😊

@@OhioShaves lol well you certainly don't have to. I really just want to know how everything compares to the 6c. Previously, you had stated that the mild was similar to a 2 or 3 plate. Then when comparing the 6c to medium, you stated that it was similar to a 2 plate but only with the first pass against 5 days of growth. Upon the 2nd pass though, you changed your mind and compared the medium to a 4 plate. So naturally, I might then conclude that with a 1st pass on 5 days of growth, mild henson would be be similar to a 1 plate. But on the 2nd pass/minimal stubble growth, it would best correspond to the 3 plate, which would be consistent with your previous assessment of the mild vs 6c. Agree or disagree?

Great video. Thanks for doing this comparison. I’ve been waiting for this. I thought the medium won since it finished the race sooner. Did you feel that the slightly more efficient medium version would have allowed you to stop the shave earlier (two passes and touch ups), and in doing so be easier on your skin? The mild was the one that necessitated that third pass for both razors.
@OhioShaves
@OhioShaves Жыл бұрын

Question: you say that the Medium version takes off more then the Mild, I can understand that. But if I shave 3 times in 1 shave, it looks like it wouldn't matter which razer you use ( although you perhaps could stop after 2 shaves in stead off 3 ). Hopefully I made a bit sense and someone could answer my qustion

If you’re doing a three pass shave to me, it makes no difference. That’s why I prefer the mild over the medium aggressive razor.

Which razor of the two would you compare to a merkur 34c? Mild or Medium?
@OhioShaves
@OhioShaves Жыл бұрын
The updated version of the AL-13 mild is smoother and will take down more growth with ease compared to the 34C. There is no blade chatter like you get with the 34C as well. The precision in which the aluminum is cut to a precise tolerance is a huge advantage for the AL-13.

It looks like you lathered on the face and not in the bowl, right? But you showed the bowl in the beginning. @@OhioShaves

Yeah should have added why, nothing wrong with the razor itself, was looking as a step down from the straight razor and was using this. Just never felt right in tight areas. I purchased the leaf thorn after watching O.S. rock it, and prefer it much more

I had private messaged Henson on their facebook page and they shared "We recommend regular/mild aggression to 90% of our customers. This razor aggression is best for users who are just starting their double-edge (DE) safety razor journey, have sensitive skin, or are planning to shave areas other than just their face. You would be surprised how much it can handle. "
