I'm glad I watched this. For me the main purpose of drinking coffee is the caffeine not really the taste. What I learned in this video is that there is actually more caffeine in drip coffee because of the volume. I would have to drink 1 & 1/2 shots of espresso to equal the caffeine I'd get from drip coffee with a standard size coffee mug. I think I'll stick with the simple drip coffee makers.

This was very good, I have to make this my go to video to share with people because even coffee drinkers I know seem to be clueless about what espresso Really is. They only ever see it when lots of milk is added so when I drink out of my demitasse they say “what is that?!” ...the 15-20 second shots sound short however. But it made me think of James Hoffman’s latest video on science/math to make espresso. Worth a watch if you haven’t seen it!

The reason why so many people hate drip coffee might be the fact that Drip method solely relies on the quality of coffee beans and since high quality beans tend to be much more expensive, most cafes choose to serve espresso. my suggestion is to try 100% Arabica with a light or medium roast brewed with V60 or French Press to really get a taste of fine drip coffee. There is a pleasant floral and fruity taste achieved by the drip method that espresso can not deliver.

.Do the coffees that are sold in supermarkets all "freeze dried"? (Maxwells, Folgers, etc..) Because the coffees like Starbucks always say use within 30 days or so. (Or does Maxwells, Folgers have a 'freeze dried' component that makes it last much longer in a cabinet? (sorry for my newbie question.) Thanks. 😊

Is Drip Coffee the coffee used in preparing South Indian Filter Coffee? Also, can I use Drip Cofee to prepare beverages like Latte and Cappuccino which are traditionally prepared with Espresso? How would the taste differ?
@lisztresurrected9438

Two grievances worth noting with this video. There is a huge difference between a French press and, say, a pour over. French press is a steeping method, which includes things like cold brew, Aeropress, and clever dripper. This method is chemically different because it allows the coffee to oxidize, effecting the flavor a great deal. A French press and a pour over have distinct strengths and weaknesses and saying they're the same is fundamentally wrong. The other thing you got wrong is the fundamental thing that makes espresso different, which is the pressure it's put under when brewed. It has to have a certain number of bars in order to qualify. Some people argue that an aeropress is espresso, but going by stricter standards it doesn't qualify at all.

Am I the only person who has ever used a bombilla for my coffee? I put about an inch of medium ground ultra dark roast fresh ground Crigler coffee beans in a bottom of a Crigler coffee mug then poor about an inch of boiled water in the mug and pushbthe beans to one corner of the mug and put the bombilla which is pronounced bom-bee-sha. For anyone who is confused about what it's its a metal straw that has a filter in it and is traditionally used for Yerba Mate. I put that on the opposite side of the beans. I then slowly fill my mug with boiling water and let it sit still until it cools enough to put in the fridge where I let it sit for the entire night. I wake up and boil more water and drink about 1/4th the mug at a time adding hot water. The 1st few times I fill it it's like drinking the strongest iced coffee ever and slowly it starts to become warmer and warmer but it's still extremely strong. Infact so strong that I only drink a mug of coffee at most twice a week usually less. The rest of the week I prefer to stick to taking a caffeine pill. I find I enjoy the coffee much more when I only have it every so often and the way I prepare it and have to keep adding water every 5-20 minutes means it's impractical for me to do this every day where I can take a caffeine pill when I wake up and I'm good through the day. I prefer using a caffeine pill from nootropics depot because they have a caffeine pill thst has 2 different types of caffeine and it works for 10-12 hours instead of 6-8 hours thst a normal caffeine pill lasts. I believe the caffeine pill I get is called Dynamax and it also has 200mg of L-theanine which takes the edge off which I enjoy especially on those days I also do other stimulating nootropics such as phenylpiracetam or oxyracetam.

@maestososhifu

Drip usually refers to drip machines, that is the coffee machines with water "dripping" on coffee that you find in hotel rooms. Pourovers are conceptually similar but the pouring is generally more precisely done with different people using different techniques for different brewers (chemex, V60, Kalita, and the like). I'm not exactly sure what you mean by brew coffee - the closest thing I can think of is immersion brewers maybe? (French press, Aeropress)

Try a chemex or Hario V60 for drip. But a lot of it depends on the coffee used. A harsh (herbal, spicy) or store bought coffee might well taste horrendous out of a chemex, but good in a French press. A good Ethiopian from a local roaster will taste heavenly.

you forgot to mention "usual serving sizes" 212 is 3.3125 time less than 64 so serving is only 100 ÷ 3.3125 = 30.18 mg per serving ?! for black coffee 40 / 95 = 0.42 so serving is 100 ÷ 0.42 = 238.09 mg per serving I really have no idea why espresso number is so low.

Why do they serve espressos in such small cups?
@JMTom-ig1lj
@JMTom-ig1lj 5 жыл бұрын
Anton Chigurh because espressos are very intense, strong and rich, therefore the serving size is smaller. Think of a shot of liquor.
@jordanjtbraun
@jordanjtbraun 5 жыл бұрын
Espressos are made to be drunk fast. In Italy, espresso bars don't even have chairs. You take your espresso shot and get on your way. What peraon has the time to wait for a drip coffee? Or at least that is why the Espresso was developed.

@J Paterson my feelings exactly. I feel the espresso sacrifices the coffee experience for convenience/speed. It tastes really bad when its "pure" (no sugar or milk) and in my book thats a really bad sign for coffee

kenim some espresso didn't like what you think, bitter and unpleasant, if the cafe puts more focus into quality of espresso, you'll find different kinds of taste in the espresso just like pour over

I don't think there are much differences. The biggest difference is if you have filtered or unfiltered coffee. With unfiltered coffee (like French Press coffee) you need to be careful with certain oils in the coffee that can raise cholesterol levels. Paper filtered drip coffee (like regular drip machines, or Chemex) filter these oils out so filtered coffee is healthier. I am not sure if Espresso contains these cholesterol raising oils or not.

One or two shots of espresso a day won't raise your cholesterol levels. Eating animal based foods will.
