The modifications to scripture are a big part of what makes the Church true. The living God requires living scripture. Perhaps its near time to add a few more sections. My favorite is the last, 138, as it mirrors the theme of a favorite song, The Impossible Dream, "willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause", though the song didn't arrive until the 1960's, a golden age of musicals, especially The Sound of Music.

Edit request: please include the fact that the modern church has doctored the Doctrine and Covenants to obscure certain teachings that delegitimize Brigham Young and his successors. You should support the truth by informing your audience that if they want the pure and unaltered revelations, they will find them in the Joseph Smith Papers.

@caitlinwhite23710 ай бұрын
Hi I’m not sure if you’re aware of this but journal of discourses is actually considered apocryphal in the LDS religion. That is because it’s not a reliable source of information. From a solely non-LDS historical standpoint- the book does not stand up to scrutiny. The records of what Brigham Young and others said which are listed in the book do not match the multiple shorthand accounts of the same quotes and sermons that we have from other contemporary scribes. The other historical accounts agree with one another but do not agree with the journal of discourses. Modern technology and processes were not available for verifying the accuracy of transcriptions, and some significant mistakes have been documented. So when trying to disprove the validity of a religion- be sure you’re 1. Using historically accurate documents 2 using doctrines that religion you’re criticizing actually believes. I say this because many opponents of our religion recycle tired old arguments that began in the 1800s gathered moss for a hundred odd years and haven’t been updated since the 1980s- not realizing that - No, that is not what we believe- these arguments have already been debunked and the only people who you might convince are either people who already agree with you or people who-like yourself- appear to be woefully ignorant of history. I know that comes across as kind of harsh. You probably mean well and don’t know any better. Maybe bought the ‘Where is that written’ green book of proselytizing Mormons from some evangelical prayer group and wanted to make a difference or something by telling Mormons ‘the truth about their religion’. Not realizing that the majority of those arguments are apocryphal and have already been debunked. My heart goes out to you. Really it does. I suggest focusing on your own relationship with Christ and seeking to live a happy life rather than trying to tear down the faith of other Christians.

Thank you for lightening me up. I’m new I’m clueless ( in general ). My sister isn’t and she’s allowed me to join her in teaching these adorable kids after service every Sunday. Well we’re doing these lessons in order per the handbook for teaching (“come follow me - for primary..”) and on top of being relatively uneducated about religion in general and a serious lack of maturity for a woman my age AND having severe concentration issues (a lack thereof even before a pin drops. Don’t like to make excuses by using the medical term adult attention deficit disorder or A.D.D. but I just did anyway…. although they didn’t call it that when I was a kid nor medicate it beyond “SHUT UP please ..”. always the please and the nicer teachers asked me if I might pay attention “Little Miss Chatterbox Social Butterfly Katie…”. ) Anyway this is all a method of stalling before I return to what confuses me very much and my sister wants me to learn this coming Sunday’s lesson D&C 102-105 because I’m going to be on my own 🥶 instead of one of the students asking very good questions. Because I do think like a 7-yr old, I am good at asking questions and it helps to love kids-to love their amazing minds that don’t complicate what is so wonderful when left simple. So the only trouble is I have to understand what I’m responsible for relaying to the kids. Before i return to the specific 102-105, I saw the simplicity in your title and I’m grateful to have found a little levity because I’m kind of panicking at being overwhelmed by as much as I’ve yet to learn being new to the LDS faith. I was drawn to the religion by its mentioning of joy and most of all a Christianity in action as opposed to ceremony and words. I found the meaning of Christianity-deeds instead of words, groups at food banks, giving up months to go somewhere away from home to bring a message of hope. Unselfish people from whom I couldn’t distance myself in the emptiness inside me that accused all organized religions of hypocrisy - that’s what I saw and all I saw when I stopped looking. I want to end this now and get back to what I’m struggling through to learn for this Sunday. It’s not about me anyway but I remain in awe at the joy and generosity in the people I’ve met and keep meeting in the LDS faith which has given me a lot more than it’s asked for in return and set itself a world apart from religions as i knew them -past experiences where the emphasis on guilt and shame left little room for much else but alas not so in the Mormon faith that talks less about Christianity than the life’s beauty it teaches. And thanks for your video to explain to minds like mine unfamiliar until my 60’s !! with Christianity in deed and spirit and no better time than this moment… whatever the moment … to let the sun in.

Where has Kwaku been all his life? To not know The Sound Of Music (which by the way is somewhat true) seems like it should be punishable by having to watch all the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals one after another. I admit it that I always cry towards the end when the Von Traps are escaping from their country due to Hitler taking over, but then freedom comes from hardship. Not to spoil it, but have Kwaku look up the Von Trap Family Singers in Stowe Vermont and he’ll want to know more. Btw my all time favorite Musical is The Music Man. It’s basically a morality play because Harold Hill is trying to con people out of their hard earned wealth (it’s not always about money) and time with family, and in the end he sees the error of his ways and winds up not getting what he wanted, but rather what he needs-a girl and other people who are stubborn but willing to reform him into something he never suspected he was-a very decent person. Almost like what God does for us when we accept Jesus Christ and start living the Gospel. (It’s similar to what we do, but not totally like it). So Kwaku, don’t give your Saints Unscripted peers too bad a time; they’re only trying to broaden your horizons by introducing you to great things that may have passed you by.

@@seans5289 Of course this entire conversation is paired with presuppositions. I would point out, however, that it is what the Bible claims about itself. We can have an entire apologetical discussion but at the end of the day... if you take the Bible to have any amount of divine authority (as LDS people do), you would have to say that the original autographs were divinely inspired. Otherwise, you couldn't logically hold up the claim that it has divine authority in any reasonable capacity.
@seans52895 жыл бұрын
