Brain cannon of the day: Zenos is Hythlodaeus So basically: everyone who can have the echo is a reincarnation of an Amaurotine who didn’t get sacrificed to Zodiark right? And everyone who is a shard of an ancient, upon seeing a star shower gains the echo. Ascians can create starshower illusions. Garleans presumably can’t get the echo due to their inability to wield magicks. Emet Selch and Hythlodaeus were besties back in Amaurot. What would Emet do if his best friend was reincarnated as his great grandson, heir to the throne of his empire? He would experiment on him to see if he could restore his memories. This would explain why Zenos is so fond of us (Azem and Hyth were friends in Amaurot), this would explain why emet’s recreation of Hyth realized he was just a recreation, why Zenos has been having dreams of the final days since he was a little boy, why Fandaniel said “could Emet Selch have found a way to...” in 5.2 in reference to Zenos’ dreams, and why Zenos became so retardedly powerful upon being granted the resonant. Emet gave him the resonant when he was too young to remember and gaining it again made him so strong he could have effortlessly overpowered Elidibus. Which explains why Elidibus, an unsundered ascian in possession of a rather adamant body, refused to fight him. Could also be why Fandaniel took such a liking to him Edit: Furthermore, in Tales of the Shadows it’s revealed that Hylodaeus was nominated for the seat of Emet-Selch and turned it down as it didn’t interest him. Which would imply he was roughly as powerful or intelligent as Hades. Zenos turned down the throne of Garlemald because “has no interest in petty politics.” A pretty interesting parallel.

​@@gateauxq4604 No, Garlean can't use magic from the beginning so they were outcasted by Eorzea into the original snowy wasteland (Ishgard was still grassy before Seventh Calamity), it's not until Ceruleum technology came along did Garlean became an empire. Major reason of that accomplishment was Emet possessing Solus to put Ceruleum into military use and introduce Ceruleum engines, hence the founding father statement

Commenting (And editing as I go). One of the canon 1.0 powers the Player Character had from the Echo was the ability to understand all languages. The differences in Echos was much more pronounced there, and some people had powers you didn't. Your main powers were to understand all languages and the intentions of others (thus the ability to see AoE markers) and the ability to glimpse the pasts of others. One of Minfilia's powers that has never really been touched on is that if someone was prying into her past, her past self could react to it and directly interact with whoever was looking in. Essentially, Minfilia's power was to interact with other people's Echos. Minfilia of course also had a stronger connection to Hydealyn than anyone else and could hear her voice more clearly and on command. Ryne clearly inherited some of these, though we've never really seen her make use of the echo. This is something I HOPE gets expanded on. The only main power we know is there is the ability to possess the bodies of others like an Ascian, something that never sat well with Minfilia. However, body possession is most likely a universal power, which is honestly why I've never felt Ysale is truly dead. *edit* I was going to make a giant edit here, but I made a much longer reply below about the Player Character's Echo Ability to understand all languages and how it applied in 1.0. I was gonna me this a giant edit... But instead. I'm just gonna do this as a reply: I felt I should clarify a point or 2 above. I mentioned that the Player Character (Not yet a Warrior of Light or Darkness at the time) could understand all languages. Part of this came into play in the Beastman story line as your character could automatically understand them when they spoke while many side characters couldn't. It saved time on needing to write up a new language or have dialog you needed translated for the devs. One of the abandoned storylines involved the Green Sylphs and the fact they secretly ran a major trade organization out of Gridania. ARR TRIED to touch on this a little bit when you had the masked Sylph that functioned as a dignitary to Ul'Dah and at the Waking Sands, but this was far more interesting in 1.0. The fact Ul'Dah was aggressive about keeping Beastmen out was a more prevalent plot point. This plays out into one of the biggest moments in the 1.0 story that was available around level 20 or so... when some Ixals went to Thanalan and got into a fight with the Amal'ja and both began summoning their primals, the first time Ifrit and Garuda are mentioned in 1.0. Both summoned to fight each other. In a way it makes them fusing during Eden something of an interesting payoff for me as a 1.0 player, though honestly the devs probably did not have this in mind. Anyway. 1.0 allowed you to progress the MSQ on ANY job. This meant you could progress the story as a carpenter or botanist. But that also meant there had to be content that allowed you to deal with situations without fighting. You know the Parley mini-game you unlock in the ARR Hildebrand quests...? Yeah. That. That's how you did it. I actually did the story quest with the Ixals and Amal'ja summoning as a Blacksmith. And you had to beat 2 Ixals and 2 Amal'jaa in Parley in a 30 minute time frame (which... Was funny having 2 groups summoning and arguing for that whole time). One of each side was easy, and then other one was very difficult, and it took down to the wire to win all 4 games. Alternatively... you could go in as your battle class and win in 4 minutes. Anyway. You could understand, talk to, and negotiate with beastmen, others couldn't. And one of the Sylphs was with you during that quest. Only the leader of organization could speak the Eorzean language. The rest only you could understand. Your whole purpose in that story was to smuggle the Sylph into Ul'Dah and serve as their translator. The organization has been LOOSELY mentioned once or twice in ARR... It's the something Consortium. It was an organization dedicated to bringing man and beastman together and opening up trade. It's something I'm honestly shocked wasn't mentioned in Pat 5.4, and I KNOW Anonymoose remembers this stuff, but in the recent GamerEscape podcast Ethys was on, I think Moose didn't think to connect some of these dots with 1.0 when it came to the Beastmen reconciliation between the main nations. However, the Consortium story I feel is ripe to be revisited and maybe even get some content in the vein of Custom Deliveries or something.

@@Varizen87 The Ashcrown Consortium did actually feature again in ARR through the first Allied Beast Tribe quest! They have evidently been working hard to improve relations between the disparate beast tribes and the states, but their efforts have been focused in Thanalan. Even in 1.0 there wasn't much evidence of their operating on Vylbrand afaik. If and when reconciliation with the beast tribes in the MSQ extends beyond Limsa, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Consortium become relevant again.

@@EthysAsher Thanks for the reply, Ethys! It'd been a while, and I THOUGHT there was something with them, but I wasn't entirely sure. But I remember in 1.0 that they never really did much in Vylbrand. But I do agree that I would like to see that plot point come back. There are so many 1.0 plot lines I'd love to see revisited like everything with Neilfriscen (Horribly mispelled, but he was a Wildwood Elezen who was at one point the head of the Goldsmith guild who was involved with F'hlamin and responsible for Minfinia's father, Warburton, being killed. I'm sure you know this, but a lot of people I talk to don't.) For me, the plot with Neil and the other members of his crew has always been something I wanted to see revisited. The Ashcrown Consortium though I think is the plot point most prime to return soon.

Pretty sure there were other cities and civilizations in the pre-final days world other than amaurot. Amaurot just being the largest by far. There is dialogue between amaurot ghosts about another (smaller) city in the east that got hit by the cacophany prior. Zenos may not be special as the result of experiment but a prime soul. As a garlean his magic and perhaps natrual echo supressed by blood and the resonant experiment merely granted him what he would've had if he wasn't born garlean. To me the impression is his pre-final days incarnation left amaurot traveling the world looking for hunts and challenges and he relished the cacophy for all the beasts it provided him to fight.

i think i have put together how Gaius is taking out the ascians and the method in which he might be employing. do you remember our convo with him in the Burn? it here he reveals some important bits of info or hints as to what he has done to remove the ascians from the picture that being he gathered intel from an informant within the scions on how Nabrialis met his demise within the Rising Stones and this got me thinking then he must have wanted to replicate that and pressed for details. and he says how he will drag each and every ascian "into the light and put them to the sword." in which case he would learn white auracite and aether siphon was used by archon Moenbryda, now the auracite as we know is a rare resource it is not mass produced but someone with gaius' influence and connections can obtain something similar to it i am certain of that. using those same connections i can almost guarantee he improved and upgraded Moen's siphon making more efficient thru garlean engineering. the problem then would be the lack of a blade of light but as we have learned we do not need solely that to end an ascian its just more easily used by those blessed by light, Lahabrea met his demise by being swallowed into Nidhogg's eye and absorbed to fuel its power, while Elidibus was crushed by his own aether then absorbed into the crystal tower. so i think in the instance he is up against ascian he destroys their physical body or host body traps it within an auracite like container, using the improved aether siphon to siphon to weaken them and then since he neither has dragon eyes or a crystal tower handy, i believe he does have the core of ultima the heart of sabik.

Speaking to the Echo question: I'm almost positive there are times in the MSQ where we get evidence that the WoL can read the intent of others, maybe not often enough and clearly enough to pull a Fordola in combat, but enough that we sense danger almost like a spidey sense. It would explain why we as players see the cast bar and AoE markers. Even without explicitly stating that those are game manifestations of the echo, I think the "intentions of others" thing Varizen87 mentioned is a canon thing and shown in story. Naturally, we get blindsided a lot, but if you're going back to the Fordola example, remember that her echo is artificial, so it could be tuned for combat AND it is confirmed to be on ALL THE TIME. Ours isn't on all the time and isn't even at-will most times, so when plot wants us to get a feeling bad shit is going down, we react. Otherwise, we get blindsided for dramatic purposes.

Some possibilities for Zenos are 1: If he is like us and has the Echo naturally, He could be related to us in some form in the previous unsundered world, either as an enemy or a friend. This could explain a bit of his obsession with us rather then simple craziness. 2: The people or such that he gained the echo from also have some relation to us. 3: It is possible that he himself is somehow closely tied to the fall of amurot either being the cause (ie in example 1 being an enemy from before) or another possibilty that he is somehow a part of whatever caused the fall in the first place, for example if the cause was a powerful being brought to life he could have been it before the sundering and when everything split so did it and a part became the Zenos we all know.

I thought that when we killed the ascian in ARR, we just killed a shard of him not everything of him. Cuz sundered Ascians are split across the shards, so if one die, that shard go back to reincarnation like in the case of Gaia. They just need other ascians to awaken them.

Prediction for 6.0: It will turn out that the Final Days, what with the starshower and the ticking noise, were actually a malicious attack by a foreign entity, some kind of "alien" (this is final fantasy, after all). That alien was sundered with the world, split into 14 shards of itself. That alien was Zenos. He's going to learn about how we powered up by rejoining with another shard of ourselves, and he's going to start going to other shards through some means (maybe with Fandaniel's help?) and basically just forceably rejoining with his own reflections in the other shards. We may end up having to do the same in some capacity if we want to stand a chance at stopping him. At some point he'll regain his memories of invading the star once rejoining enough of himself, and he'll remember his original mission: a full hostile takeover. Destroy all life and claim the star for some other purpose. He'll subject Zodiark to his will like he did with Shinryu, we'll do something similar with Hydaelyn (though she might do it willingly rather than us forcing her to), and we'll have our final showdown. We win, save the day, Zodiark and Hydaelyn's strength will be entirely spent against one another and they will cease to exist. Roll credits.

You know, I had a random thought today and I hope that you will address it at some point or another. In ARR and all subsequent classes that come afterward we have a crystal for that class and that we gain memories and abilities through those classes. These class crystals are in lore memories from those who have come before us in those classes and are the memories of those individuals that we in turn learn from. Does this mean that the crystals The Ascians used to awaken the memories of the convocation are just class crystals and, since we still carry the stone of Azim, could we potentially gain abilities that the Ascians once used against us?

My current theory on Zenos is that he is a being similar to Vauthry, but made with Voidsent instead of sineater (because of some visual clues, as in Baby Vauthry looking kinda like Zenos who let go of himself, involvement of Emet etc.). But to ask a question - at this point I'm kinda confused about what exactly Allagans managed to accomplish. Crystal tower was the battery for reaching 13th, right? What are the most important achievements and how could they have helped Emets endgame?

Here's an idea I've been pondering about that if you find interesting you could also entertain yourself with: After the Endwalker reveal and even before that I've really been wondering if this next expansion will be a lot about the voidsent and what the TRUE ones really are. I think their nature is more extraterrestrial such as Ultima and one of the big questions we still really don't know is what ACTUALLY caused the Final Days. This super advanced and harmonious civilization losing control over their imagination doesn't quite sit right with me. I've been wondering if something fed off their nightmares and manifested itself as the voidsent who then caused the invasion of the planet. Looking back at other FF games and now that Pandaemonium is a thing, do you think there's a possible FF9 scenario where some alien civilization was trying to come to our planet and feed off the aether. To further speculate, if we look at Garland as he is in FF9, he's basically an AI being with a third eye and an eye on his chest, similar to Garleans. Garleans don't have innate magical powers and are almost as if not in tune with the world. From all the Alliance raids minus Nier (but instead Bozja and New Weapon Trials) we have a pattern of auracite being a thing that feeds off an idea or broken desire, which then manifests like a primal as a broken being. We know it originates from Ultima who is an extraterrestrial... So I don't know this theory recently started forming itself in my mind, but do you think there's a possibility we're looking a story like that? Especially with the moon and all? Any of this make sense at all? Kinda hard to type it all up and not just write an entire theory essay on this but, what are your thoughts! Also thanks for doing this format! It's really cool and very chill to sit back and listen to after long workweeks :) P.S. Also I just remembered I wanted to mention that it's weird that the final battle in Amaurot dungeon takes place in space over the actual planet and it looks like those voidsent nightmares were invading and we were just intervening.

your saying how Fordola got a copy of Krile's abilities with echo. but during the alexander raids, iirc, Krile mentions that her echo power just lets her understand other beings and communicate with them. how dose that translate to Fordola having the skill to read the aether of other people to see what actions another person is going to take enough to predict how they are fighting. I'm thinking there has to be a bit more to it then just going in the chamber and getting a fake Echo. like the scientist guy is/was able to work out how to guide the resulting fake in the direction needed to give that particular skill.

since you sit in the whole video, you should instead switch to manual focus. When you've set your focus on this chair area, your focus distance will be locked on that area for the rest of the video. no more losing focus from the autofocus :)
