The Astrodome is a Texas Landmark thats being preserved as is for now. All NFL playoffs & Super Bowls the roof on retractable stadiums are always closed no matter the weather.

The Saints and NFL will keep the Superdome going for as along as they can. No way it gets replaced unless they have to. Ford Field will probably get a big renovation in the next 10 years. NRG and State Farm are still 10-15 years out from their first big renovations. None of these are at risk of replacement.

Men's Final Four in 2009 and will host again in 2027. Super Bowl XL in 2006. It has also hosted Men's NCAA Basketball Region in 2008 and the Frozen Four in 2010. There are other high profile events it has hosted since opening in 2002.

The idea of a retractable roof was briefly discussed and looked into a few years ago when Detroit was seeking a MLS franchise. I don't believe the roof with its setup/design could be converted into a retractable roof. A report came out saying so. What I'd like to see is, if possible, replace the end zone frosted window panes with a door wall type of set up similar to what Minnesota, Indianapolis, and Las Vegas have. If that's not an option, still replace but with newer technology the ETFE material. This is a great stadium and you don't realize it seats over 65,000 with the way it was designed. Not a bad seat in the house.

As a Titans fan who goes down to Huston every other year from Nashville to see the Titans play the texans. I can say nrg is one of the nicest stadiums I've ever been to next to the superdome and U.S bank stadium. Also, the Astrodome is a national landmark, not a dump.

I wonder what DG thinks about Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts. It was built shortly after State Farm Stadium and like the other domes mentioned has been a Super Bowl host. Also, if the Astrodome is keeping its historical landmark status it should be renovated into a tourist attraction with stadium tour options. At least it could be put to good use and not be an expensive eyesore.

Exactly! I literally live 5 minutes away from the stadium and have been to many events and games there before. The stadium actually does get natural light because of the way it has been designed. Even with the roof closed it has those windows up near the top that let in natural light.

NRG is a nice stadium I work there and fans from other cities tell me all the time how much they like it especially the concourse is big you have a lot of room to walk not a bad seat in the stadium the roof used to be open a lot but when they took the grass out and put field turf they keep it closed mostly the last time they had it open was 2021 for 4 games it looks so much better with the roof open but nfl want let the Texans open the roof if it’s over 80 degree and that’s the main reason it’s hardly open

This stadium is a big time upgrade compared to where they use to be play before that, Old Busch Stadium in St. Louie and Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. Going to a game at Sun Devil Stadium during preseason-part of early October was very uncomfortable to be in because of the heat.
